MATCH/PREVIEW THREAD : Ipswich Town V Charlton Athletic : Pre-Season : Tues 29th July 2025 KO 19:30

Hi everybody, and welcome to our 5th pre-season match thread..

Tonight we travel up Essex and a match at The Jobserve Community Stadium which is the home of Colchester United FC, where Ipswich Town will be our hosts, relegated from The Premier League last year Ipswich should prove challenging opponents tonight, but we should provide some stiff opposition to them also shouldn't we, and more than capable of coming home with a draw, but maybe a win?
Tonight we could start to see a bit more of a settled side from Nathan with the new season only 11 days away, also we all know Godden and Berry are going to be absent, but this could also be a chance to get our first glimpse of Kelman, probably from the bench in the second half??.
It would be good to start the first half with as close as possible a first 11and swap things around a bit after 60 minutes, which seems to be the pre-season plan so far.
I know it's all about minutes in legs and all that, but might be time to start strong...,Audio only tonight, which is very annoying and not easy to follow in my opinion, anyway, we shall see, team...

  • What’s the latest on Godden? Presume if he is definitely still Injured tonight he will miss the start of the season?

Be interesting to see if Burke is still injured or not.

Unknown regarding Godden, all we do know is Nathan said Godden and Berry would not be risked pre season, however, I would hope and expect them to make an appearance Saturday at Southend  hopefully
  • This game, provided we and Ipswich play strong(ish) teams, will tell us a lot about our squad and possible prospects for the season ahead.
Ipswich recently are one of the most successful EFL teams until their plunge back down from the Premier last season. They will/should be a good benchmark.

No prediction, as said, it'll all depend on team selections
  • Given the very sad news of the passing of Ethan perhaps tonight's game should have been postponed.

Shame we cant watch it. Be interested to see If Kelman comes in as not sure how many minutes he has had.

Had a look Ipswich squad and they haven't bought many in but have retained a fair amount of players from last season so will be tough game for us for sure.
  • Bit peeved a yearly pass (from here in, um, Belgium?) that's supposed to include "Live streaming of men's first-team pre-season friendlies" ... doesn't.  Still, as long as the audio is provided instead and they don't expect us to pay again ...... I mean surely not......

  • This could be a reality check. Ipswich have been flying in pre-season and are going to be up there challenging for the automatic promotion spots. Hoping we put up a decent display, but equally have a feeling we are about to get introduced to just how high the standard in the Championship is.

We will never know will we, unless you are there, Audio is totally bloody useless...

very much depends on who plays doesn't it?  You'd hope it would be a more-or-less first eleven for this though.

Well, to know if we put up a "decent display" you have to actually see it, which is the point I was getting at, audio tells you nothing but another persons perception of a performance, anyway it is what it is now ain't it...

I read somewhere that it's not being streamed by Ipswich either.

Maybe something to do with Colchester hosting the game at their JobsWorth stadium ...... maybe they are hoping to attract their own local U's  fans to boost attendance? 🤔

Not sure why you're obsessed by Wealdstone mate but heres a grab from "Purchase your pass" screen on the cafc website

I'll leave it at that because this isn't very interesting for everyone else is it?

I doubt it will tell us anything, it’s a friendly/training session where the players will not be giving 100%, just taking the next step in their season build up.

We could win and be relegated by Christmas, we could lose and make the playoffs.

Imagine that the trialists remain Dexter and Bennett - Not surprised to see Kelman on the bench, hopefully this has been partly done with Southend United in mind, given he came through their Youth Team.

Of course it will, it’s the strongest team we’ve played with just under two weeks to go until the season starts, players are going to want to impress
