Neither of the Mitchell’s look ready to play in the championship but with Burkes injury history, I doubt either will be loaned out in case of an injury to a starter.  I think Zac has a lot of potential and the best thing for him is to play every week on loan to a league one side,  I just don’t know if that is likely to happen for the first half of the season
wishful thinking but if we could find a prem Loan that could do a job as a wingback and wide centre back and is more championship ready it allows Zach or Alex to go on loan to get consistent L1 football which they both desperately need and would leave us stronger, Lembikisa definitely isn’t that option but surely there’s someone better than him with a similar profile
  • Going by the highlights alone, the game looked to be the ideal workout.

Got the impression that the first half team was NJ clarifying a few uncertainties, who to play, who to keep in reserve, who to loan out and who to lose. I think we will some squad tidying and a few departures on the back of that performance (the Mitchells being two either loaned or released/ sold).

No way Zach is getting sold.

I think people forget how young some of our academy graduates are.  I know sometimes football fans expect players to be the finished article when they are teenagers , but the vast majority aren’t .  All of Campbell , Leaburn, Anderson and Mitchell are still developing , despite all of them having quite a lot of experience .

Looks to me as though both teams started the game at about half strength (debateable as I suppose we are still experimenting to find the right mix, as are they ?).
So, all in all a great performance by us against a club who were two divisions above us at the start of last season.

Completely agree with this. Unless they get an injury crisis around key players, Ipswich should run away with the league and we proved most of the game that we could limit their chances and look dangerous on the counter.
  • Anyone know how long the contract Fullah signed in April is for?

No but they called it long term, and given the season had almost ended I would guess 3 years (same as Leaburn) and hopefully an optional 4th (same as Mbick).

I went last night. Last minute decision. I knew from last season we were not going to see anything near the team which will start but there were some decent performances. Fullah looks great, Gilly and Jones looked up to speed. Ramsey was blowing a bit after 35 mins which is understandable, Tanto looks an handful and I thought Kanu had a good game although I am sure he will go out on loan. I thought we were the better side when we made the subs and Kelman looked sharp in his short Cameo.

What does it tell us? Not much. I am sure all the team structure work is going to be done at the training ground. We have enough players to do this. Tialist A made an error for the first. Trialist B looked ok but I doubt either will be signed.

A 2-1 loss to a team that couldn't survive in the premier league...

This always makes me do a double take as its my shirt on the floor in my kitchen haha. I remember it was back on though and won? can't quite remember the game.

The game changed in the 2nd half when the subs all came in....... although Josh came on a bit before in place of Bennett (?) and shored up our left side, which was much needed.
Haven't watched the highlights so not sure how El H was in so much space..... I've seen offside mentioned but really..... so much space...?
Anyway........ Tanto, Apter, Kelman, TC......... what an absolute handful these guys are going to be....... rapid on and off the ball, tricky and skillful, I'm so much looking forward to next season. Although how NJ is going to use them all....... for once I don't want to pick the team...... happy to leave it to NJ!
Quick mention too for Connor Cov who looked comfortably at home at this level and for Fullah who could be scary when he's developed a bit more.

This is why I keep banging on about us needing another centre-half in the Rumours thread. Burke will be a bit-part player and neither Mitchell was good enough for League One, so won’t be Championship quality.

Fullah played in the attacking role behind the front 2. Carey dropped back and played where JRC had done in the first half before going off.

How did Carey look a bit deeper? I know it wasn't long but we haven't seen him there before

I actually thought Carey had the best performance I've seen him in so far. First half we struggled to get out really and although he had a few nice touches most of the play bypassed him. Second half he got more into it, wouldn't say he was great but he does add a bit of extra height, and is quite rangy with his running, was able to pick it up from deeper and bring it forward which helped take some pressure off the defence.

Also put in a great ball in to the box for our goal.

I hope we can keep Fullah in the first team squad. Having him do his box of tricks in the last 20 minutes of games would be very useful. The only player who may be potentially in that category is Knibbs, whom we have not seen yet.

Our half of the end we were in was probably about a third full. The other half had no more than about 100-150 Ipswich in it. Opposite end behind the goal was pretty much sold out. Stand to the left was as well, but 2 blocks were covered over and not in use. On the right of us the stand was probably 2 thirds to 3 quarters full with the exception of 2 blocks in the middle which were empty, that I assume are normally directors exec seats. Capacity is listed as 10K, so on that basis I'd say probably around 5.5-6K as a guess.

Ipswich official report made me laugh as they somehow confused Maynard-Brewer and  Jones.

Nathan Jones’ side went close to equalising in the 79th minute when Tyreece Campell whipped a cross towards Maynard-Brewer, whose powerful header was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Aro Muric.

Kaminski, I don't know much about him but obviously is highly rated. It just worries me when goalies parry the ball back into the danger area (23 seconds), I know it's a bit old fashioned these days but if he had time to raise his hands to parry why not clutch the ball to his chest ?

I feel if he could have he would have, the ball clearly came to him quick, and he parried it towards a defender to clear, I am still impressed with his pre season so far...
