As much as I despise Sheffield Wednesday and with good reasons. I appreciate how important clubs are to communities, especially absolute slums like Hillsborough. I'd rather spend a week in Gaza than a Monday morning in that hovel.
Blimey Charlton fans, was just perving on other clubs forums to gather some qualitative info from each teams fans to see how the Championship season is shaping up. Didn't expect to see a big thread about us and plenty of hatred on their, but also some love and appreciation. Our club has been consistently and utterly mismanaged and abused from the top down for decades now. I know certain clubs can empathise with that, maybe such as yourselves who've clearly been dragged along by the wrong people doing the wrong things and making the fans suffer.
Anyway, I'm not trying to change opinions. Football is a game of emotion and bad experiences clearly stick around but I hope you guys know there's plenty of genuinely decent fans of our club and not monsters. Visited the Valley a few times in recent years sat in the home end due to working nearby and also with SWFC. One of my favourite traditional grounds and the only London team I've warmed too (alongside Bromley). Genuinely had some super interactions with Charlton fans and plenty of banter.
I came on mainly because I was intruiged at the business you'd conducted this summer and was liking the shape up of your squad moving forwards. I've got you down to finish top half, not sure what you guys think?
A lot of us wish you the best and given we have been in a similar situation, we should empathise. I suspect you may need to suffer to recover and the important thing is not staying up this season but getting rid of your owner. I'm sure there will be buyers waiting in the wings but not wanting to deal with him. It isn't about avoiding hitting the bottom but ensuring the bottom isn't too deep. The bottom is where you recover from and hitting it as soon as possible can be helpful if it removes the cause of your problems.
It is human nature to dislike those most like ourselves. We are all football fans at the end of the day. When we were in trouble, fans of rival clubs showed solidarity with us and that is how it should be. Personally, I would draw the line with Millwall and Palace but I'm sure you would with Sheffield United. That is understandable,
Back in the’80s we nearly lost everything and there were more than just rumours that our would merge with another. Maybe the time is approaching that it becomes reality for a couple of clubs. If the two Sheffield clubs merged they could be massive. Both clubs could claim to be the original. They both share Sheffield in their names, They both play in stripes. One rents a ground, big saving there. One has better players and was knocking on the promotion door last season, instant improvement.
Wonder who will actually be in their first matchday squad. Could see a situation where they can't name it until very late on as they're waiting to see what players turn up on the day!

Supposedly the club want to travel on the day and the players are thinking of booking a hotel for the night before themselves. But with no/little wages (in football terms) that might not be the easiest thing in the world. It's all such a mess
Running a football club is admin. Owning a football club is vision and responsibility.
SW, is like us. A club with a great history and tied up with the local community. The EFL, must stop sitting on their hands and make a statement so everyone knows what the situation is regarding this situation football wise. I wish SW, and their fans well and hope they get a chance to play this season.
I actually cant see us starting the season after what ive been told today. This is our lowest ever point in our history .
Can you hint at what you’ve been told ?
Leicester wont be happening at the moment even though Sky cams will be there . Things changing here every hour !
Meanwhile the dictator is away with his family having a wonderful holiday posting nice snapshots online whilst some of the debt recovery people are launching action against staff . You couldnt make it up.
Were you calling him a dictator when his fake taxi company was getting you into the playoffs?
To be fair, even when they were doing ok, there were quite a lot of murmurings that things weren’t ok with the owner. Similar to us, even when we got promoted back to the championship under Bow, no one was letting up on Dushitsalot.
It should be part of the deal that if you buy a football club, the ground cannot be separated in its ownership from the team/club.
I think a lot of people forget that football is a business. Yes there are rules that must be adhered to to be and remain part of the football business but you wouldn’t and couldn’t expect a factory owner to be restricted by what decisions he makes regarding where he manufactures his goods. To rent or buy is a “business “ decision. Football ownership needs and should be subject to the same rules as any business owner. Part of the problem for football is that it already has far more latitude and tolerance applied to it than ordinary businesses. Sheffield Wednesday are effectively trading as an insolvent company and that in the business world is illegal, yet here we are.
It is only unlawful to trade when insolvent (unable to meet debts as and when they fall due) if there is no hope of recovery. Chansiri would argue there is hope if he manages to get the asking price!
There is (at least) one other Sheffield club. Sheffield FC, the first football club ever. The early history of Sheffield FC is rather fascinating, especially when it comes to the evolution of the laws of football, and the early days with no opposition where there might have been skins v shirts and there was certainly ‘married v single’ and other iterations. I wouldn’t think Wednesday and United could merge, but maybe with sensitivity there could be other choices around the city. And of course our own (and Wednesday’s) John Pearson once managed Sheffield FC.

Whilst that is true the definition of insolvency is that you are unable to pay your bills when they fall due. That has certainly been met. When your liabilities are greater than your assets. Now of course Chansiri would argue against that but creditors would have a good counter argument. Is there anyone other than Chansiri who believes that the £100 million asking price is remotely realistic ? The football club is actually asking players to fund their own trip to the opening game having not been paid for three months. Unless The EFL intervene in the meantime I’d imagine that the boil will reach bursting point for Wednesdays first home game. The question is will the club have staff enough to meet the safety requirements and be in a position to pay for the policing in circumstances which might become very fractious.
Out local MPs have been writing to Chansiri for weeks and months. Most of the time he ignores them but the most recent one he just told the MPs 'what's it got to do with you'....
That statement on its own shows how utterly detached some owners are from football. Quit a few local MO's may be fans of their local club, and most would dislike their constituents being put at risk in a dodgy stand,, or fans being unable to attend as the ground is so run down. The football authorities really need to start getting involved now.
If Chansiri won't fund the club but expects to be paid a huge amount for a club who are debt ridden and no longer own their ground, it's time to think about how to safeguard a historic club. As they failed to do with Bury.
They’re effectively insolvent. That’s actually illegal. EFL have to make a statement
Being "Effectively insolvent" and actually insolvent in terms of the insolvency law are two different things. If the directors of SWFC are putting their necks on the line and regularly meeting to state that they reasonably believe that the company will be able to pay its debts and have evidence to support that belief, then they are entitled to attempt to continue to trade. That position can pertain until the debt summons and winding up orders come in and cannot be met.
Trevor Birch at the EFL, as a former insolvency practioner, will know that very well.
It is interesting that they have managed to stay the claims and winding up orders. They may have creditors who don't want to be seen as the first to bring down SWFC, particularly the case for local creditors and other football clubs. HMRC are usually thefirst to move in these circumstances.
I believe that Trevor Birch will be keeping a very close watch on the legal position, and the EFL will step in as soon as they are in a legal position to do so.
Chansiiri and any co directors are putting their necks on the line if they are trading without reasonable belief of meeting their liabilities since their personal liberty may well be at risk.
Seems The EFL are becoming increasingly concerned that Sheffield Wednesday won’t be able to play their opening game away at Leicester. You really have to laugh.

It’s only illegal if the owner knows, or should know, they have no way of avoiding liquidation or administration, so not automatically illegal.

That's good of them. In breaking news tomorrow, the EFL are apparently concerned that Putin might not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.
Wait - I thought Palace were the oldest club in the world?

They were, but the clock reset when we switched from BC to AD.

they could keep the red stripes and the blue stripes and call themselves Sheffield Nigels or Sheffield Cunts

Its actually quite nice in some areas. Plenty of good people live their and a good community. Hillsborough Park is a lovely inner city park.

I suspect Sheffield FC and Stocksbridge Park Steels will both get increased gates. 2 fantastic non league sides.
A couple of posts on this page really going for the Wednesday neck. Kick a club while it's down eh
Their chickens are coming home to roost. We were victims of them spending beyond their means last time we were in the champ. Hope they survive of course and can rebuild sustainably in league 1 or below next year and that they take one of the relegation spots this year.

I actually wrote an e mail to The EFL this morning saying I thought that it was a disgrace that they hadn’t issued a statement on the situation so that the Sheffield Wednesday fans had an official understanding of where things were. I received the reply (below about an hour ago)

Same template email they were sending us about ESI.

So turning a blind eye then?
Realistically what else can they do? Hamstrung by the rules the clubs decide.
