  • So this is where we are now.
The deal collapsed because Dane Murphy looked over the contract and said yes.
Harvey Knibbs turned up at Sparrows for his medical on crutches.
Reading agreed a fee of £1.8 million and at the 11th hour upped it to £5 million and a signed poster of Bananarama
The deal is stone cold dead or the corpse is still warm and might still be revived.
    Delete as you feel fit.

So someone who was not working for the club or allowed to by EFL read the contract and said yes … silly season is deffo arrived

This whole saga reeks of Reading playing silly buggers at the last minute & moving the goalposts.
Or someone else gazumping us maybe?
Sounds like it was us that pulled out though.

more this window goes on the more confident I am that we could get rak sakyi on loan, only club I could see paying the 10 mill plus palace want was rangers but now they have gassama and Moore.
  • How long did the Delort saga go on for? Just asking....

Basically the whole window wasn't it? Was supposed to sign for Brentford , then some agent shenanigans stopped that , then supposedly was with us for talks and then ended up somehow at Wigan not really doing anything.

“Have heard slightly more this afternoon that the deal is still on, Knibbs wants the move and the issue has been money related with Reading and not medical issues. Knibbs not expected to play tomorrow for Reading and would expect talks between the clubs to go on over the weekend.

Personally, I am more confident this happens and I hope it happens soon.”
That would kind of make sense with what Hunt said about checking where Knibbs' head is at
  • Kinda gives context to Jones' comments "Don't believe everything you read in the papers" comment, maybe this back and forth on valuation has been ongoing in the background and he was venting a frustration?

Makes sense i guess... reading have seen us spend 3.5 mill on kelman and tried upping the price last minute, and we have told them where to go. If so, well done to the club
  • I would imagine medicals rarely don't pick up some minor issues with a player and a lot will depend on where the threshold is set by the buying club. But we don't know and quite possibly won't ever know the full facts. All we know is we wanted him then didn't in the space of a few days.
We don’t even know that we don’t want him.

    It doesn't sound dead.

Would come under a cloud of doubt now.
  • I want a signing and I want it 5 minutes ago.
I'd be happy with a decent rumour

Can we make @Goddenole an offer to start posting his exclusives here first? Maybe on a pay as you post contract?

He’s proven himself as a top tier ITK and think it’s time he makes the step up.
Offer weekly promotes. If we’re running short on them we can take some from Henry Irving.
  • Before the failed signing of Knibbs it was looking a very positive window especially with the promise of what was to come. I really liked the mix of experience aligned with the best of L1.

But seeing today that Wrexham are looking to add Conor Cody and Kieffer Moore and are still in for Broadhead at £7.5m to add to Windass and O'Brian, it really does show what we are against. These are all top end Championship players.

I've just seen Derby have added Rhian Brewster to Calton Morris and Agyemang.

Our window has exceeded our expectations but others are doing the same, we desperately need more creativity and quality in midfield.

This is going to be a real fight to the death, so the Knibbs news really is a blow, these last 2-3 signings really are going to be crucial.
We are vulnerable due to not yet replacing Small and the injured/old Berry at RWB and 10
  • If it's true the reason is Reading have asked for higher fee last minute, I don't like the way the Reading manager has come out with things in last day or so. He very much made it sound like it was a problem on our side and he didn't know what it was. Im sure he'd know if his club turned around and said we want another £1m or you can't have Knibbs.

  • …as the manager he’s probably not that involved with the details of the deal. He’s either transferred or his not. He can hardly come out and say we are trying to screw Charlton for a few more quid. His interview reads to me he wants to know if Knibbs will be available for selection or not. I expect he may be on the bench or not included as he will not be prepared based on this week’s negotiations seemingly taking their toll.
  • From a purely selfish, Charlton perspective, I hope Knibbs refuses to play for Reading again and pushes through the move to us. If the rumours are true, I can’t really blame Reading for holding out for more money — but keeping an unhappy player who clearly wants out is a risky game. I don’t think we’re going to blink first, so the ball’s firmly in their court now.
  • An unnamed player who has to “travel far to get back” has a meeting scheduled for Monday. Cant go into specifics around the type of meeting but this would only happen after a deal has gone through.

I expect a strong rumour/update to come fourth in the next few days.
Assuming this isn’t about any of our current players. Fukuda?
  • Hopefully positions haven't become too entrenched and we get this deal done.

    Brandon Williams?
  • Maybe it's not that they want more money...maybe they want more of it NOW.  These deals are often structured such that payment is spread over the length of the contract or a pre-agreed timescale and the £1.8m (or whatever) is paid in installments or based on agreed performance targets.  Not sure on Reading's financial position - but maybe they want more up front and less payable over time so they can, more easily, buy a replacement.
