I get the sense that Jones wants to make this squad better and if that means getting quality in, then he would. Absolutely delighted with Knibbs anyway - looks a great fit for our system .
I reckon so too he's definitely been given the green light to get what he wants imo and is following the curbishley advice about not having too much sentiment for the previous final team if that means shipping some out and upgrading even them for better squad choices then so be it.
Surely now John Fitzpatricks tease must be Donley ?????? He’s in Korea with Spurs. That’s far to get home. Or could it be the Japanese Fukuda 🤷🏻♂️
Zero chance of donley, him and knibbs play in exactly the same position. Different players, but they will want him starting every game
Knibbs can play centre mid and out wide aswell.
We aren't going to be playing knibbs and donley in midfield... as fun as it would be to see Cov with Knibbs and Donley in front of him we would get torn a new arsehole by the better teams and we don't play with wingers
Coventry looked on his own with the Doc and Berry at times
Maybe it's not that they want more money...maybe they want more of it NOW. These deals are often structured such that payment is spread over the length of the contract or a pre-agreed timescale and the £1.8m (or whatever) is paid in installments or based on agreed performance targets. Not sure on Reading's financial position - but maybe they want more up front and less payable over time so they can, more easily, buy a replacement.
I understand that I'm not a respected member of this forum, (pwp) but how many times do I have to disabuse people of this false truism. In the accounts the fee is spread over the length of the contract, not the payment. That is accounting protocols. Like if you buy a lathe you can amortise it in the accounts over 20 years if that is you capitalisation policy. It doesn't mean you pay for it over two decades, otherwise most manufacturing companies would go bust (ooh, they are).
Clubs agree a fee. Say £1.8m. Seller has no say in subsequent talks between us and player. Say we negotiate a 10 year deal, with a get-out clause biased to us. (E.g if his beep tests fall below a level, all bets are off). Are Reading, in financial strife going to be happy with £180k a year? No. Doubt £450k will help them. But there will be a legal agreement for £1.8m.
Different posters keep asserting this bollocks, but it is a fantasy by thick keyboard warriors. .
An unnamed player who has to “travel far to get back” has a meeting scheduled for Monday. Cant go into specifics around the type of meeting but this would only happen after a deal has gone through.
I expect a strong rumour/update to come fourth in the next few days.
Right, Knibbs done, this is the next rumour. Fukuda??
So what's actually happened here? Was the Reading gaffer talking bollocks?
We never know ultimately what goes on behind closed doors his comments could also well have been a smokescreen to appease the reading fans a little " well we did try to keep him but got the best deal we could" kind of message.

Donley. He's with spurs in Korea until Sunday. I know with the Knibbs signing it might be odd to sign another AM but I could still see it happening

Doesn’t really fit with the “travel far to get back” comment though does it? Donley is a Tottenham player so why would he need to return to Asia after the alleged meeting on Monday? My moneys on Fukuda.
It's mad that we haven't had a single loan either. I reckon we could use a loan spot for a prem younster at RWB. I can't see Donley coming in now though with Knibbs, Carey and Berry in that position.

Or maybe I’ve misinterpreted the quote.
I took it as an English based player that's not in the country at the moment. I could be wrong of course.

We want Shinnosuke Fukada
