Embracing hair loss

  • Mine started going in my early 20s.

Although I couldn't see in a mirror, I was reminded of the fact by my workmates on a pretty much daily basis.  As engineers, we had to attend the office in the morning to complete paperwork before hitting the road.  It was here that someone would invariably rub their forearm across my head whilst making squeaking noises.  I must admit it hurt at first, but I knew that I couldn't let it show for fear it'd get worse.  I told the worst culprit that grass doesn't grow on a busy street - and looking at his barnet - told him there certainly wasn't much going on there!

Ah different times eh?   In the 70s we took the p out of each other at every single opportunity. If you dished it out you had to take it too.  I was no angel and I s'pose it did prepare me for what was to come.
  • Started losing mine many moons ago and it never really bothered me - just kept it short/shaved ever since.

Anyone on here gone down the hair transplant route? Just curious how it worked out.

  • I’ve got one booked for end of September in London. Mainly my crown and front. 3,000 grafts.

My heads the wrong shape to be shaved.
My head is so uneven and bumpy, if I shave mine and it rained i could collect rain water in the bumps and water the plants later!  My head looks like the result of a drunken fling between Mr Potato head and Kryton!!

Can you share on here how it goes? A transplant is something I have considered but haven't looked into, Isn't there a risk that if you re balding rather than bald, that the original hair will still go?

Yeah happy to share my experience. They’ve told me the hair round the back and sides, where they’re taking it from, has 2/3 hairs per follicle so should look good in a few months. I bloody hope so anyway!
  • I’m bald and proud 😊
  • I wet shave, just keep lathering, and keep shaving until it's all gone...
  • I'm fortunate to still have a full head of hair (albeit mostly grey now!) but if I was balding then I think I would shave it all off.
  • I had very long hair for years then kicked the arse out of it until resembled Bill Bailey even more than normal. Never forget my mates brother shouting to me as I left the pub “you’re living a lie”. Harsh but fair. I took his advice and went to the well known Dartford establishment Ron the Butchers and asked for a number 2. Best thing I ever did. Can’t for the life of me understand people who try and do something. If you’re bald you’re bald. Shave it and get over it I say.

  • Have done the nr.1 and 2 all over quite a few times but always miss having hair and currently embracing the side parting / comb over that the yoof seem to deem acceptable these days - been toying with the shave off again but have had a beard since lockdown and don't fancy the muslim look so probably not - having laughed at comb overs for years i've started to realise why people may not be able to see how ridiculous they are though so will shave it as soon as i think i've overstepped that line or am told i have.
  • My hair has gradually gone from a hint of grey to a full head of grey, to now teetering on white.
I keep my hair short now and would like to have a grade two all over, the problem being my head looks like a tennis ball.
    A good job I'm not vain :)

  • I also have the kind of head that should never have it's scalp seen.  A short period of one all over confirmed that.

Luckily I'm not losing it on top right now, but it is taking me longer and longer to wash my face each morning.
  • Started going grey in my early twenties. Receding at the temples now I’m in my early seventies. Had a number one cut for the last three decades. It is was it is.
  • My 10yr old son likes singing this to me "baldy baldy over there,  what's it like to have no hair? Is it hot or is it cold? I dont know cause im not bald!" It makes no sense whatsoever (he not the cleverest) but it makes me laugh! He's never had his hair cut in his life and has an amazing barnet but I keep saying hair loss is hereditary so he needs to watch out lol
  • My Mum once said I never had a good head of hair and she was right. I’ve kept it short to very short for the last 35 years. I started really losing it when I was about 28ish. Nowadays I shave off what grows around the edges. Baldness doesn’t bother me and I can’t ever remember it doing so. If you’re bald, anything you can do about it is temporary and expensive, best get used to reality.
  • Had mine done today, 8 hour op.

Fuck me it hurt more than I thought it would, mainly the 3 lots of anesthetic that took about an hour to do.

Head is absolutely pounding at the moment.

I know a few lads, all mid/late 20s who have had one done - One went to Turkey and spent c£2500, one went to Harley St paying c£8000 and another went to Kent somewhere c£7000.

All essentially do the same thing with the little hole punches and removal - think it tends to be differences in the way/design it is then transplanted that differs on locations/surgeon!
Whats you 'recovery plan' looking like? some seem to wash the hair/scabs softly after a day or two, yet some cant wash it for weeks!!

Scarily, the amount of people who see a transplant as the 'first port of call' rather than the creams/pills is ridiculously high - make sure youre on your minoxidil etc regardless

Each to their own at the end of the day, but I have always questioned why people have surgery that is not necessary.

  • I’m balding. Just have a number 2 cut all over. It’s not something I give any thought to really.
It’s a shame that vanity can affect people about something that is completely natural.
  • Hair started receding at around 23. Didn't think twice about it and got a number one and didn't ever regret it. When going to parties with mates, they would wake up the next morning with hair all over the place and mine looked the same as the night before.
At the same time, the Mitchell bruvvers appeared in EastEnders and it even seemed fashionable for a while.

  • Think I was 22 when I went for the number 1 all over. Only had it like that for about 9 months and then went the final step and used a razor blade.

Hope it works well for you.

Got mine done in London, prices have come down a lot, I presume to compete with Turkey. The place I had it done had a lot of pictures hanging up of sportsmen who’ve used the clinic, so that was good enough for me.

Can’t ’wash’ my hair until day 3, and even that is just a baby shampoo/water solution that’s sprayed on to the scalp. Hardest thing for me is gonna be the sleeping, as told to sleep at 45 degree angle for the first few days.
  • Never seen the problem with being bald… oh hang on you mean on your head? Hell no that’s just weird
