I went and had a look at our squad from a couple years ago, and there are a horrendous number now in league 2 or non league. Just shows how far we've come, and how important that playoff win was for the direction of the club. The proof of the pudding will be in the eating etc but hopefully this window gives us plenty to enjoy gobbling up.
Nothing to say that in 2 years time you could look at our current squad and see some of them plying their trade in League 2 or below.
Kelman has no pedigree in anything but League 1. Same with Apter and Olaofe. Then there are our Academy players such as TC and Anderson.
As you say......the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I do hope I am eating my words along with a slice of humble pie in 2 years time...but I could also be right.

It's called a counter arguement. None of what I stated isn't true. Not saying those players will disappear off the face of the earth but no one can say 100% that they wont be below the Championship when their contracts are up.
I’ll give you some backup on this golfie. Although your argument is I think on the extreme side I do see where you are coming from. The main thrust of our recruitment has been to pick off the better league one players which I think you’ll agree was the way to go. We’ve supplemented that with some older experienced Championship players who in my humble opinion with the exception of Kaminski arnt names that would blow anyone’s socks off. Sound but probably not any better than those found in any Championship squad we’ll face. We need both sides of that equation to work and there’s probably more risk of that blowing up with the “exciting “ signings from league one, than the steady Eddie older payers. It’s absolutely terrific that for the first time in years we’ve actually gone and spent some decent money and we should enjoy it but I think a lot of people are getting carried away. This squad has if all works out given us a fighting chance of survival. For me that’s about it. Only for example but there’s as much chance of us lauding Fullah at the seasons end as it is Kelman or Apter. We’ve gambled and need to hope it works out.

So in your world no team should get promoted because none of their players will be good enough for the next league up ..

Agree with this. My biggest question mark however is over our homegrown players. I am not sure that any of them have shown enough last season to think they can make it in the Champ, as first teamers I mean. I fact, NJ has brought in more experienced or better performing players in every position that they were in last season. The ones from League one, Kelman, Apter and Olaofe, made a bigger impact over the season than TC or Leaburn. Knibbs more than Anderson. I do hope that some at least keep progressing, although a full season on loan in a top league one side may suit most of them best. The one who may make more of an impact than any is Fullah, because he has an x factor others do not

Your last sentence would be true whoever we signed, are you saying there was alternative strategy that wouldn’t have been a gamble, or less of a gamble?
There should be a rule on here for everyone that you're not allowed to claim the sky is falling in but then also add 'I'd love it if I'm wrong'. No, you don't get to love it if you're wrong. If you spend the whole season claiming all the players are rubbish and we're going to get relegated on minus 3000 points, then when we're not you sit in the corner and eat your shit sandwich while the rest of us have fun.

How did they make a bigger impact than TC, Leaburn and Anderson ? The impact that each and every Charlton player had last season resulted in getting to Wembley and winning promotion.

I just don't get why people feel the need to revert to the negative.
Yes, a lot of the new signings and the young players are untested at this level.
Some might succeed, others may not make it or at least not yet but it is this constant desire to look for the worst case scenario, the rush to run down our players, especially our academy products, that baffles me.
Why can't we wait to see how it plays out?
Why do we have to slight the achievements of our academy players who are 20 or 21 by saying that they didn't perform as well as other players 3 or 4 years older and so further along with their development who were some of the best non-promoted players in the division?

Agreed - if you can’t be excited this week, you never will be . And I’m very much glass half empty in general !
I do feel there’s a lot of scarring from how awful our recruitment was 2020 until summer 24.

I think that's harsh on TC. He had a phenomenal and impactful season considering where he was last summer.
There were question marks over him, but he answered them all superbly (yes he tired near end of season).

Won a free kick halfway through the first half at Wembley too, few yards outside the Orient box.
Can anyone remember what happened next as plenty on here seem to have wiped who was fouled from their memory.

Twattish? Ouch that really hurts. Consider me told
My issue isn't necessarily with his comments, more the know it all negativity. We've had an unbelievable window, arguably as good as it could have been, but he and a few others will still find a reason to be fucking negative, and deliver it all in a 'I know more than you' tone that really fucks me off.
He's a boring know it all who consistently brings negativity to a conversation and has hilariously been proved wrong on many occasions, sometimes almost instantly (Leaburn scoring twice immediately after he announced 'he's poor, won't score again this year' or something along those lines).
His takes are shite, he's a boring negative melt and I'm going to continue to call him out for it. Even if I'm called Twatish.

We could sign Messi and golfie would moan he’s too old with no resale value.
Got a companies house alert, seems £26m of share capital has been issued (and paid), which may link to the summer spending.
Only £26m? Why are our owners so skint? Why aren't they spending money?
Seriously,
1. It's not what other clubs are spending but it is still a lot by our standards.
2. This won't all be fees and wages although they will be, IMHO, the majority for last season and this. The rest will have been spent or will be spent on the ground and Sparrows Lane and other expenditure
3. Because it isn't all wages and fees it doesn't automatically mean we have breeched financial fair play limits
Comments
should get promoted because none of their players will be good enough for the next league up ..

The player with the meeting today is Knibbs.
However I have been informed a player had a medical Saturday.
