We stopped doing it because to be honest, we got messed around a bit. The last season we did was 21/22 I think, we sponsored 5 players yet didn’t get all our sponsorships listed in programme / online, at end of season we didn’t get all the shirts we’d sponsored so we couldn’t distribute all the prizes, and following the dinner none of the attendees received their photos with players that had been taken. We chased and were promised a few times, but nothing come of it. It’s no major drama, but it wasn’t the first time we had issues and just doesn’t enthuse you to get onboard.
It’s an intra-day training ground lunch now instead of a dinner so that’s a bit harder to spread as a prize incentive as most people are working. None of our contributors did it though for potential prizes, it was just a good way of contributing and helping the club. I think our group through CL sponsored 48 players, which must have totalled about £15-20k so it was a fantastic amount contributed.
I think what the club failed to see the additional benefit of was that many who dipped their toe in via this then went on to do their own sponsorship which they probably wouldn’t have considered in the first place. So while we may not have been a company with potential upsell worth looking after, they actually got a number of long term partners out of it.
I’m sure we’ll return to doing something at some point, though suspect we won’t get back to the days of sponsoring 5-7 players a year.

The training ground tour and lunch is nice but it is a day out of the office and I’m taking my daughter so that’s a day off school too. Shame they couldn’t do it on the half term break.

I don’t suppose that the Fans Forum could raise the issue of shirt sponsorship with the club and to find out exactly what additional benefits would be included? I am not bothered about the additional benefits but would like to see Charlton Life being the sponsor for several players.

Out of interest, has anyone from the club ever been on to you to ask why they got sponsorship of £15-20k in the past but that's now gone down to nothing?
I mean, for all these plans we've heard over the years for increasing revenue, it would seem mad to ignore customers with a proven track record of stumping up in the past.
Bromley Addicks sponsored Nathan Jones' shirt this season and as part of the package two raffle winners got to tour the training ground and meet the boss today.
NJ promised to be a guest at one of our meetings next season.
All the men's and women's squads, coaches, physios etc, plus Gabriel Brener one of the US owners and his son, were having lunch in the Sparrows Lane canteen at the same time

Has anyone got anywhere with the club for Player Sponsorship for this season coming? Being less than a week away and the club have never responded to any questions about renewing player sponsorship I had last year and no-one ever available by phone.
Seems a distinct lack of planning for what is relatively easy money. I want to renew for my company but nothing from the club forthcoming. Anyone else had any luck?
I am delighted to exclusively announce our player sponsorship packages for this coming season to you ahead of the opening game this Saturday.
I want to thank you for your patience over the course of this summer. None of us at the club would trade the memories we all have from Wembley, but it has meant that we have had less time to prepare for the upcoming season as a whole, and our turnover time for the player sponsorship packages were initially delayed as a result.
We have decided to simplify the player sponsorship packages, moving towards a more classical package that long-time sponsors may be more familiar with.
Each package - home, away and 3rd kit - is going to be exactly the same:
Signed player shirt
Invite to kit sponsors event at the Training Ground, including Lunch with your sponsored player
Name associated with chosen player in Valley Review
Name associated with chosen play on Club Website
Photograph of kit presentation (sent via email)
The price of the packages is £500 + VAT, with a £50 + VAT discount to season ticket holders.
All player sponsorship is subject to availability, though I will give sponsors of players who were at the club last season until kick off this weekend at 12:30pm to confirm as to whether they would like to renew their sponsorship, so let me know if you would like to renew Tyreece's 3rd kit.
For new players, sponsorship will be a first come, first serve basis.
