50 for Simpson. Desperately need to get him out because if he's still there at the end then Sussex win.1

Shepherd (Barbados)1 -
Cohen gets his 4th, Oli Carter caught in the deep for 68 and that might be that.2

Shepherd (Barbados)0 -
184-6 (34)
104 needed off 16 overs1 -
Klaassen has Lamb caught behind by Finch
200-7 (37.1)1 -
Special word for Evison who hasn't taken wicket but has gone for just 30 runs off his 10 overs and even more noteworthy he has only been hit for one boundary in that time. That bowling has compensated for Cohen who has gone for a few but taken wickets in the process of doing so.
205-7 (39)
83 needed off 11 overs3 -
Outstanding figures from Joey Evison tbh.3

We are quite a bit of trouble here. Sussex require 22 off 3 overs.0

I'm afraid the game is gone following that Cohen over which goes for 17.
5 to win off 12 balls1 -
Sussex win by 3 wickets with 10 balls to spare. Very disappointing.1

From dead and buried when Simpson departed, Archie Lenham and Jack Carson have pulled off a heist here.0

Playing the extra spinner there has cost us massively1

Threw it away. Lenham & Carson batted well and sensibly but they weren’t made to work too hard. In those final overs there was a lot of effectively, long hops. Very poor.
in our innings several got out to poor shots and those final 5 overs were awful as we should have scored at least 20 more had we just batted like those guys did!1 -
Honestly thought we could defend that total. Ah well.0

Spent a lovely day at Arundel with Kent/Addick pals - a very nice venue indeed.
Missed the first 2 wickets to fall due to queues getting into the carpark but thought we batted pretty well on the whole. Interested to read AA's comments on Ekansh as we thought he looked very decent & one to watch in this One Day Cup. Plus Joey Evison continues to be my player of the season thus far both with the bat & the ball. Becoming a real stalwart.
Hadn't realised that Grant Stewart was still injured & felt had he been included in the eleven, we might have managed to get the win....maybe on Sunday.
The Sharks' fans were clearly nervous as the final 6 or so overs were bowled but made some noise showing their relief when the winning shot was scored.
As we started to make our leave at the start of the final over, someone cheekily remarked " On your way back to Ashford ? " but I was too slow to retort " Wadhurst in SUSSEX actually. "
Must do better next time2 - Sponsored links:

Dont know how we lost that game, we were cruising to victory needing the last 3 wickets, the decision to play just 3 seamers and 3 spinners seemed to cost us as we run out of steam at the end, and it clearly wasn't a surface for spin (Sussex bowled just 12 overs of spin), so seems like poor tactics, not for the first time this season it must be said.0

Academy 18-year-old Olly Curtis has signed a month-long rookie contract for the Metro. He's a big hitting all rounder who has, unfortunately, suffered from a few injuries. A decent prospect nevertheless and I will be interested to see if he does get some meaningful game time and who he displaces to get that.
I have seen Curtis at close hand a couple of times and one such occasion was when Bickley played his club, St Lawrence & HC, last season. His innings' end didn't exactly amuse the chap at the other end. Curtis was on 25 off 19 balls when he was called through for a single and although he wasn't running to the danger end he was inexplicably run out. His partner gave him the full "tea pot" for not making it home which is probably understandable given Curtis was getting more than 30 years in age. The other batter goes by the name of Darren Stevens who went on to make a match winning.
I'm sure that Curtis will have learnt a lot from playing with Stevens and not just about batting and bowling! I wish him good luck and bodes well for the future to have four home grown 18-19 year olds in the squad.4 -
I do think that going forward we need to reduce the number of journeyman signings. Have a core of mainly home grown players, and use what money we have to bring in decent overseas players.
The example mentioned yesterday of Pujara was a perfect example of the sort of player we ought to be targeting, a senior pro at the end of their international career, who might fancy a couple of seasons at an English county. Someone who might be able to stay all summer, rather than the conveyor belt of short term signings we seem to go through.3 -

Hard to find a rhythm with overseas when they're only around for 3-5 games or something and then as soon as they start to look good they're off to a franchise comp or international duties.1 -
A squad of 15 for tomorrow's game and one that includes George Garrett and Olly Curtiss, the latter making that five 18-19 year olds. The fact that, in addition to Gilchrist, there is no O'Riordan or Quinn suggests that they too might be on their way at the end of the season.0
-
I'm baffled why we kept giving contracts to O'Riordan, who's a 27 year old "promising youngster" now.0

Nathan Gilchcrist is currently playing for Chestfield against Sidcup in the third tier of the Kent League and his figures to date are 6-1-17-2. I suppose he has to get a game somewhere!
Edit - Gilchrist finished with figures of 10-2-21-40 -

Addick Addict said:The commentators were having a discussion about players that have played for lesser known countries. That got me thinking about the best Kent XI made up of players from 11 different countries. This is what I came up with but I'm sure there are others/better ones that I've forgotten up:
Aravinda de Silva (Sri Lanka)
Rahul Dravid (India)
Asif Iqbal (Pakistan)
Carl Hooper (West Indies)
Andrew Symmonds (Australia)
Gerraint Jones (Papua New Guinea)
Mohammad Nabi (Afghanistan)
Grant Stewart (Italy)
Derek Underwood (England)
Kagiso Rabada (South Africa)
Matt Henry (New Zealand)1
