Apter is too good not to play, I think rather than a new rwb we should give Ramsay whatever he wants to sign a new 3 year deal
It’s Apter’s first proper season in the Championship. He is also young and playing in a position that isn’t 100%, it’s still different to what he played last season. He is going to need competition, it’s a relentless league with much better players than League One.
Why can we not sign another wingback for competition for Apter AND give Ramsay a new contract?
In a list of priorities a new contract for Ramsay should be absolutely top
NJ called him a midfielder when he signed, and that’s where he’s played in preseason, so I think he’s mainly competition for Docherty and Coventry. He’s known for his versatility though so could cover RWB if needed.

As Baah wasn't put on the left where he had such joy the last time he played at the valley as a 17 year old against Smyth who was put in as a RWB, It worked fine with Apter in that hybrid role with Ramsey having his back. At Ashton gate if City have 65% of possession it will be difficult for Rob defensively.
The problem is when moves break down with Rob on the edge of the opponents box and we are hit quickly in transition don't expect our left rooted RWB to be in a defensive position. Only in quantum physics is that possible to go from A to C without touching B.
Nathan and the coaches will work on that this week at Sparrows but a tweak may be needed as it won't be as seamless as it was against Watford.

IMO Apter did not play as a right wing back. In defence we moved from a three to a four with Edwards dropping back and the other three shuffling across. Apter's job was to drop into what was then a midfield five and help out Ramsey, mainly by staying with the full back. Bringing in a RWB would be good as it gives NJ tactical alternatives.
Not in but one out, TT looks like he could be on the move to Northampton, they liked him last time around. Hopefully a perm, let him crack on with his career.

That’s the sacrifice you have to make if you want the player down that side to contribute the attack. Not gonna find a wingback with both the attacking ability of apter and defensive ability of Edwards they don’t exist at this level. What I liked about Apter even if he wasn’t 100% spot on with his positioning is his work rate was brilliant and he committed to every tackle block and defensive action he faced and tried to recover when caught out of position He won’t be as much as a liability as CBT as a wingback I think he will do well

You are correct and my reply was to TeeC who feels that it's set in stone now that Rob will play 46 games as a RWB where it will be more of a right midfielder who will drop deep at times with plenty of scope to be our creative player in counter attacks.
With Baah being on the right, Josh was a traditional LB and went head to head with the chirpy Kwadwo where Edwards won most of the battles as he only got done once on the outside.
Apter was more of a right sided midfielder as Ramsey moved to the right to take on the wide left danger when ever Rob was upfield with his impressive skill on the ball where he could have had 2 assists and nearly a goal or 2.
Managers will soon be aware so tweaks have to be done from game to game to out think the opposition. We have a template that works so it won't be too radical.
Apter is clearly number 1 at RWB and looked very good om Saturday. We aren't going to be dropping 800k on a second choice rwb who is out of contract in 5 months
We don't play with a RWB.. It is a wide forward... Same as it was with Small..

Perhaps given the connections, we’re a good place to come for young Jamaicans or those with Jamaican eligibility to get seen by the JFF early?
Looking at the updated squad u21 and u18 squads on the OS, we have quite a few more who are eligible for Jamaica alongside those we already knew about. Wonder if we’ll see any called up to Jamaica youth squads.

That does make sense to me honestly, I imagine that if a player we particularly like suddenly becomes available or we suffer some sort of bad injury then the wheels might start turning again but we have probably done the bulk of what we want/need to do.
Not to say that cover a WB etc wouldn't be nice if we can manage it but it's certainly a nice change from having to sign dross on Deadline Day just to have a squads worth of players.

Nothing against the guy at all , he's had rubbish luck with injuries and deserves the chance to go and play somewhere every week.
