Road Works on Plumstead Bridge [Plumstead Station] are causing massive congestion to traffic in the Plumstead/ Woolwich & surrounding areas, these roadworks will last for 3 weeks & so are likely to cause disruption to motorists & bus users travelling to & from The Valley for the next 2 home games.
Woolwich & Lower Plumstead have been gridlocked for most of the day, with hour waits for buses in the Charlton area, a driver on the 180 bus route said he took 4 hours to complete the journey between Erith & North Greenwich this morning.
Lets hope that there will be less disruption for tomorrow evenings travel.

Well done Clive, I was just going to come on here now to warn people.

It sounds like it’s been absolute chaos out there today. Traffic all round the main roads of Plumstead and Woolwich have been gridlocked. This is going to cause severe problems given its set to last a number of weeks.

Even the 161 down from Mottingham to Charlton was diverted around Woolwich town centre this morning.
  • Thank you. Heard it was a nightmare today!

How long can you park for in B&Q? @Braziliance, did you use that car park on Saturday?

    From earlier today.

All these buses stuck around Plumstead bus garage. Delay of 3+ hours of moving at all as some taken out of service.

10 pm UPDATE: Problems are still ongoing near 10pm. Buses have been more than four hours late this evening if not curtailed.

Serious questions need asking as to why nothing was communicated on a wide ranging basis until Greenwich Council hastily put up information today with nothing in advance.

    @clive
I've just been out shopping along Plumstead High St & the road was clear of traffic & buses running well, when at the same time yesterday the whole area was in gridlock.
I'm not sure why everything is now running smoothly as the roadworks are still there.
Apparently there is an emergency meeting today between Greenwich council & TFL to try & resolve the issues & prevent the absolute chaos which occurred yesterday.
I will update this thread if i hear or see any developments.
  • Thank you.

I was stuck there for hours yesterday. I wonder if the roadworks were put in yesterday and today is the first day the diversion routes have been followed. Just a guess but something feels different.

Travelled by bus to & from the game this evening from Plumstead High St no delays heading to the game but about a 10 minute delay travelling through the roadworks area on my return journey, numerous cones & temporary traffic lights controlled manually by many staff but no actual work on the bridge taking place overnight.

Apparently traffic is completely gridlocked again in Woolwich this afternoon, due these roadworks.

Just think how bad it would be if Greenwich Council hadn't already "taken action to improve the situation" .....

What’s gone wrong with Greenwich Council’s Plumstead roadworks?

Reminder, these roadworks are still ongoing, although there have been no serious delays recently, allow extra time if using buses or driving through the Plumstead/ Thamesmead & Woolwich areas.
The roadworks will probably add about 10-15 minutes to the return journey from The Valley, especially between Woolwich & Plumstead.

Beautifully timed train cancellations just before and after the game has driven me into travelling by car.
I'm sure someone is employed to carefully calculate maximum disruption.

A full service is operating today.

The train from Gravesend that arrives at 12.09 has been cancelled according to the Southeastern rail app.
The returns due to leave Charlton at 2.52pm and 3.39pm are also cancelled.
