Other than 4 games for Luton in 2019, it seems crazy that at 29 this is Lloyd Jones’ first season above League One level. He looks so assured and comfortable and was bullying players that played in the Premier League last season.
Sure Nathan will get the line-up right soon, bit like last year, took a bit of time but then it really took off, not too shabby so far, and looked really well drilled yesterday, just needs his front line sorted and we will be good to go, in Nathan we have got to trust...
I've woken up more frustrated than yesterday. What's really annoying me is that Leicester are not in a good place at the moment and they were there for the taking. We need to be making the most of bits of fortune like that that fall in front of us if we're going to survive. Preston managed it the week before and we should be looking back being grateful that we played Leicester before they'd sorted their squad out and settled in with their new manager. Come January if things are going well we'll never think about this game again but I fear if we keep not scoring then unfair results where teams have scored good goals against us will become more regular because we can't do what we did last season, which is rely on getting a better quality of chance off Cambridge and winning 1-0. It's early yet but I'm struggling to take the encouragement some have because that should have been 3 points and we need as many as we can get.

Do realise despite the off field issues Leicester’s squad is still good. Fatuwu cost more than our entire squad yesterday 15M vs 11M. These types of games are 1 in a million that you don’t score in it was just bad luck on the day. I don’t think it’s worth panicking cant view that game the same way we viewed Crawley at Home last seaosn
It will be interesting to see how Jones reacts to that defeat. Will he think we need to be a little more expansive or stick with the defensive solidity. I suspect the latter, which I wouldn’t disagree with, but 1 goal from three games is maybe a little red flag.
How long is Godden out for? I might have missed it. His guile was missed yesterday.
Dead right,I feel if Godden had played all 3 games we would have 7-9 points. He sees those half chances before defenders react, how many times last year did he just nip in fromt of a defender and score, nobody doing that at the moment.
Can’t help feeling disappointed, Leicester did not deserve the 3 points.
On the positive side, we created numerous chances, never looked like conceding (aside from the screamer that we did), and it was great to see great individual performances (Miles and Doc).
Negatives - one goal in 3 games and most of our chances are coming from corners/long throws,
I still think we have enough to be safe by early April!
I thought our support was superb yesterday, the Valley, the store, the fan park all packed which is great for the club!
xG from yesterday has been updated and it’s more favourable towards us.
Charlton 1.51 -> 1.63 Leicester 0.50 -> 0.49
If you model those xG numbers with the total shots taken by each team and replay the match 100 times:
Leicester win 10 times The match is drawn 23 times Charlton win 67 times
The three most likely scores were Charlton 1-0, Charlton 2-0 and 0-0 draw. The actual final score was the 7th most likely, behind Charlton 3-0 as 6th most likely.
Thought Carey was anonymous today and Apter struggled with his crossing…hopefully they can adapt….beaten by a wonder goal. Do we have someone who can do that? Not sure
Well Coventry hit a wonder strike in first half. Most keepers aren't saving that!
Really? That shot scored 0.2% as an expected goal and for good reason. It was too near the centre of goal. Any professional keeper should save that. I really think there were a lot of people with rose tinted Charlton glasses on today.
First off the xG was 0.03 not 0.2, so basically the same as their goal. Secondly, it had so much curve and movement and was placed right in the corner, it was a phenomenal save.
It had curve yes which took it from the centre of the goal to halfway towards the post. There is absolutely no way that it was heading for the top corner. The angle we see on the youtube highlights may give that impression but when you see the camera angle looking straight in to the goal, then you can see that it curves from mid goal to halfway towards the post. It’s one of those acrobatic saves that looks wonderful but really isn’t. It’s not one of those saves where the goalkeeper gets his fingers to the top corner and just manages to tip it over the bar.
I know what I see and I don’t care if I get lols, and I’m not attention seeking, just not bigging up what was an exciting looking shot but ultimately not going to trouble a goalkeeper at this level.
Nathan Jones’s mantra is keep it tight at the back and in midfield and you won’t concede many goals. He has done that, you can tell, so now he’ll focus on the best players to play up top and what combinations. It’s a process. He has some good options up top now. That’s how I view it anyway.
We were superb yesterday and we were beaten by a wonder strike. To be honest Leicester didn’t look much to me.
A follow on from last season. I moaned then that we weren't scoring many & if we fell behind (unusual after xmas) then the were unlikely to win. Orient away was the outlier.
We will probably stay up this season, which is all anyone wants, but it wont be pretty & it wont be a goal fest.
give me performances and atmosphere's like that at the valley every week, i'll be happy - of course we are frustrated but it was a compelling watch throughout and that's what i go to football for - we threw the kitchen sink at it, on and off the pitch and on another day would have walked away with a big win
A reminder that TC had 1 assist all of last season in League One.
He's obviously there for his goal scoring ability rather than his chance creation but is that enough? Especially when he's been limited in his goal scoring positioning so far in these first 3 games and forced to attempt to create chances more often.
Assists are the most rubbish, misleading statistic of all.
They are only counted if the chance created results in a goal - and depends on the ability of the goalscorer to score.
If the chance is missed then the player creating the chance gets no credit.
Instead, better perhaps to count and credit the chance creator, regardless of whether a goal is scored.
Campbell's successful passes today. Do you see where the issue may be?
You can see Campbell's positional play clearly and it's based on a high press.
Have a word with his manager, who asks him to play a certain way according to his instructions.
Campbell played every minute of the game yesterday. Ask yourself why?
Imagine I'll get backlash but TC needs to be dropped. No end product and lightweight. Tanto come on and showed more.
Completely agree. Passing is woeful. Didn't want to take his man on today. Doesn't look like scoring or assisting.
However I really do believe he can be a great impact sub off the bench.
He's so integral to the team, available for a pass, taking on oppo players, tracking back, tackling, drawing players away, making space. Mostly in forward positons as an out ball or to keep a press on. Do those of you criticising just want goals, and can't see the rest of what he does?
But his overall job as a striker is too score goals isn't it? Yes you can do that stuff and its great but his final ball is poor and with Leaburn winning some headers, TC isn't near him to run onto a flick on.
I just feel if we had 2 out and out strikers for a longer period, we would have scored at least one and maybe even won it by 3,4 or 5 like NJ alluded too.
But without TC’s running and stretching the opposition we won’t create as many opportunities. I’m also not a massive fan of throwing out the system that’s worked so well for us after three matches of the new season, and TC is an important part of that system.

I think when we play at home we are going to see more of sides sitting deep or being pushed deep like we did yesterday. I actually think that Leicester's key players were their back four and obviously the goal scorer, in terms of any other threat, it wasn't noticeable yesterday. People also need to remember the ages of our front two, Leaburn and Campbell, they are still learning the game and will get better.

But Kelman, Tanto or Godden can do that. It doesn't make him undroppable.

I don't think it was ever going to be pretty football and scoring loads. We are going to be ugly to watch , annoy most of the league and probably not win many by more than 1 goal. Just stay up and set the foundations would do me just fine.

Yes I'm aware that their squad is still good, but that's very much the point; we came up against a squad of good players who haven't adapted to their manager's way of playing yet and have had a poor start. A game you could normally chalk off as a loss was there as a potential win through the luck of the schedule and we didn't make the most of it, which is a shame. Yesterday was bad luck sure but we can't afford too much of that in the Championship so it's disappointing, that's not panic.
I'm hoping we're going see Tanto and Kelman at Cambridge. Poor Tanto has had barely 90 minutes play in 4 games, Kelman just under 3 hours.
At the risk of repeating myself lets give players like Kelman a chance. After 10 games judge away but its clear the format up front is not there.
If you look again at Kelmans previous goals they're mostly running through with an accurate pass to him... There's barely been that opportunity provided at all!
Without wishing to cause a riot on a sunday I do think TC is being favoured a little by Nathan but I'm not sure going forward if his position should be guaranteed yet.
I'd like to see Costello and Knibbs also play 90 minutes sooner rather than later and what about Karoy, the poor lads only had 1 minute of League play.
I'm sure we're get it right but in this league you must take the chances.
Next week will be a tough game make no mistake but I'd imagine the qpr players will be quite nervy... We therefore need to hit them hard, Tanto in my opinion should be the first name on the team sheet imho.

This is where the ball tracking had it going
This is the angle you’re talking about. That is nowhere near the centre of the goal and is still moving away. Outlandish takes based on opinion are fine, outlandish takes where you ignore the facts are just mad

People keep saying that but no one has claimed he is undroppable, just that he doesn’t deserve to be dropped yet
Other thing I keep seeing bandied about is that TC is lazy which is a crazy take. He presses like a monster, chases down lost causes and NJ loves him. There’s no way NJ loves a lazy player. When we’ve had Fraser, Gilbey et al in the last few years to call TC crazy is mad
Came away from the game yesterday frustrated but immensely pleased with the performance feel that we have got better each game although we only won the first one. A strange but encouraging start IMO. Very impressed with the defence again and thought Coventry and Doc had good games
Frustrating game, absolutely deserved a point but Leicester defended their box well.
Do not understand the low scores TC has got, ran himself into the ground, was particularly good in the first half.
Leaburn was good, his link up play was excellent.
We perhaps needed some changes 10 minutes earlier. Would have Tanto to come on the left when TC was tiring, I felt Choudray would struggled against Tanto's power.
Exciting times tho, we will play a lot worse and get results. Can't wait for Knibbs to get fully fit and start games, he seems to get around the pitch excellently.
Also, considering Lloyd Jones has never played above League One, he has stepped up amazingly.
