Brian Cole…where is he?

It may be that I have missed something but does anyone know what has happened to Brian Cole? Last time I saw him was at Wembley announcing the lineup.

Been replaced by Dave Lockwood. Nothing sinister about it but not my place to say anymore.
  • Ok thanks. If he has left his role, seems odd that there was no announcement from the club.

Thanks for the memories Brian. Hope the club/Dave let you do one more gig if we draw Crystal Palarse in the cup  ;-)

Well done Brian Cole 👏🏼 for the last 9 years and the long journeys to the Valley. Welcome back Slim Dave Lockwood 👏🏻

I am gonna be honest, I miss him already.

I think he is one of the best stadium announcers I have ever heard. New guy is good, but big shoes to fill.

This is like watching UFC without Bruce Buffer.

The new guy 🤣🤣 How long have you been supporting Charlton? Big Dave has been on the scene for donkey’s. He was the announcer before Brian Cole and just confuse matters, Brian Cole was the announcer before Big Dave.
Since I was 10. I would say I have been consistently going to games since I was 18.

I genuinely can't remember another voice I will be honest. Just assumed it was always the same voice but got older 😂 bit of a Mandela effect moment here, my memory must be shit.

Both are miles better than the rugby league fella we had during some of the prem years. What was that about?
Safe and happy retirement Brian ♥️

My memory of it was that Dave had a stint before Brian's first one, and that he was the announcer when I started going to games in 2000. Is this correct? Would make this Dave's 3rd proper stint...

Then he needs to quit and come back again for the full Chris Powell

Brian and BDL are both great match day announcers and we’ve been so lucky to have them at the microphone for so many years. But for those of us of a certain vintage the late great Dick Neve also deserves a mention when the nominations are put forward for the pitchside announcers’ Hall of Fame.

You was before BDL/Big Brian ? John Fuller ? I’ve been going since 93 and I’m sure there was someone before them.

Let down by the microphone / speaker set up unfortunately.

Many can’t hear what’s being said with any great clarity.

From the AC stand it's ok, Brian Cole tended to put a bit more into it, tho BDL was clearer on Sat than against Watford.

I guess that’s the point. Why is it variable?

Mic technique (look up proximity effect), wind direction, whoever is on the volume control?

Was racking my brain (diminishing with age) trying to think who it was back in those days. Thanks for identifying Dick. A steady well cut voice.

We should set up a thread where can ask @bdl questions.
