He can deliver set pieces, sign him up0

I wonder and I'd personally quite like this , bring in an RWB and play Apter from the 10? Think he could cause a lot of problems there.1

If we switched to 3-4-2-1 then I think it would make sense to move Apter forward, but with the number of strikers we have I think that move is unlikely5 -

Listened to Charlton Live this morning and, upon listening to NJs interview after the game, he specifically said that he has been looking to sign someone in this role for around 8-9 months. That obviously means that, for this role, we wanted to sign someone while we were still doing well back in January and it was a gap then (and not just now).
If we are signing someone for a fee, this just suggests to me that they are going to come into the starting XI and not just be cover. I just feel if we are spending a fee, then they are to improve/build on what we had then and not just what we have now. The targets obviously change for going up, but the need for the role remains. It gets me thinking as to where we were weaker in January.
I am assuming that it's a wing-back, but then who gets dropped from Apter or Edwards if we are signing someone on a fee? That's the bit that doesn't make sense to me - I don't think we drop any money to improve us IF it's to improve the starting XI. Maybe it's nominal spend for cover, but that feels like that doesn't really improve us. It's an outside chance that it's a midfielder, but he does seem pretty wedded to keeping Docherty in there and I'm also struggling to see him buy someone that would depose him.
As Lewis Catt mentioned, we do lack a ball-carrying midfielder. That's the dream for me, but I think finding one that presses as well as NJ wants AND can carry the ball is going to be silly money. I suspect it'll be a wing-back, but outside of cover, I don't know whether the signing we make today is one that unlocks more progressive attacking play.
Will be interesting to see who it is.5 -

Will be interesting to see who it is.As much as we could do with a midfielder we’ve brought in 3 already and NJ obviously loves Karoy Doc and Berry just don’t see how that’s possible unless NJ decides to suddenly switch up on some of his favourites.0 -

Only 3 players i could get excited about signing today- Rafael from Kyoto Sanga, Mendez-Laing from MK or Chuks Aneke off his sick bed. (I'm assuming Chuks is the Target Player Profile for the missing striker role).
(Actually further research tells me Chuks is into earning a "passive income" from a link up with 3sixty property group, who also use Kayne Ramsay's picture on their homepage. )1 -

Easily worth paying a fee for someone who will play that much0 -

He was out with a recurring thigh injury...in
2022 for a month
2023 for a month
2024 for a month
and last injury was in feb 2025 a serious knee injury and started light grass training in May this year - problem is they are all on the same right leg0 -
So what are we realistically looking like doing today?
Surely there's a loan or two out there for us?0 -

if we’re looking at the perfect scenario A RWB CB (loan Zach out) and an elite midfielder1 -
For me a forward is key.. We need someone that can put the ball in the back of the net.. We are creating more chances, then we have ever done since Jones took over, but we just not putting it in the net. We need a bit of pace..
RWB is also key..10 -
Ward been involved in all but Derby’s opening league game this season, so must be fit, and scored a cracking free kick against West Brom (league cup) from the type of area we spurned so many chances from against QPR0
