Problem is that the cost is insurance driven hence the prices go up and up as do the premiums. Got 3 cats on top level cover and it's 200 quid a month !!!1

Main problem in UK is actually that nearly all vet practices are now owned by a handful of companies so they act as a cartel and charge whatever they want. Real shame that people cannot look after their animals for a decent price. Because they then don't get looked after apart from being either thrown out on the street or requesting to have them put to sleep when they face a high bill.

You might be surprised. Many small practices have been bought by one of the large groups but have not changed their name or staff or anything, to maintain the illusion of being the friendly local business. The fact that you describe them as very expensive would lead me to think they may well be owned by a big group.red10 said:Rizzo said:

Those that didn’t know, if your animal is on lifetime medication you can ask for a prescription.
For example : our Bailey was on thyroid tablets available from the vets at 55p each x twice daily, same medication available on line with a 6 month prescription at cost £10 …… from around 11-12p a saving of over £60
Bowyer needs a medication for life at £15 per month, available again online for around £6 per month, vet is refusing to give a £19 prescription for more than a month making it uneconomical to buy them online rather than them.
Now tell me it’s about the animals and not money!2 -
The silly bastard has injured his other ear and we’ve had to put the collar back on him again. There is a lesson to be learnt here, having an insurance based health system leaves many unable to afford care, whether they be pets or humans. I'd love to have another cat, but vet care is so expensive and it wouldn't be right to take one on and not be sure that we can properly look after them.red10 said:Problem is that the cost is insurance driven hence the prices go up and up as do the premiums. Ours cost about £350 I think. They don't cut it into the existing door/window. They replace the sealed glazing unit with a new one with the required hole cut into it. We moved house from Petts Wood to Westerham 4 weeks ago today. We kept the cats in until Friday but one of them has gone awol after the first hour of being let outside.
Its been over 72 overs since we've seen young Kit-Kat. My daughters are absolutely distraught as he used to sleep on their beds when they needed comforting and he followed them around and his Mum & Brother.
We've got neighbours opposite us and either side but we're pretty much surrounded by fields. I've walked the main footpath/bridlepaths around us with no joy.
Feel gutted for Kit-Kat, feel heartbroken for the girls when their face drops when they ask if he has come home. I feel guilty as hell as I made the decision to finally allow them outside.
The wife and I are resigned to not seeing our handsome boy again, absolutely gutted
Need a miracle now!
The girls have started to ask where he is and we haven't got a clue. Dropped a message to the few neighbours we have to check their outbuildings but I'm praying for another miracle. They are all getting trackers being put on them whether they bloody like it or not now.

They are worth it, they are a lot better than they were a few years ago even the Bluetooth tile devices are handy but you lose the ability to hear the cat if out of Bluetooth range. The GPS ones are solidJohnBoyUK said:
