What is quite obvious from saturday,is if you make a mistake or lose concentration, you will get done in this league.1st goal,Apter a fraction slow on seeing Smyth run,and thats enough for a tap in.Campbell lost the ball in their half, and in a flash they are away with another fairly simple goal(although very well taken by their man),which really exposed our defence. We will learn(Not bothered about 3rd goal we were all forward),but also we have to take our chances,we wont get many in a game,Leaburn on reflection probably should have scored. My biggest moan is the complete pile of shit we produced at set pieces.Against Leicester we caused all sorts of problems, against qpr,we had 6 well positioned free kicks which either went to the keeper or went out of play.Plenty for NJ to work on in his free week.
I was expecting a bit more from Kaminski thus far. Perhaps is evidence that Mannion is better than he was given credit for, but I thought the upgrade would be more obvious there as opposed to noticing he does some things actively worse than Mannion. It's a new defence he's playing behind so might need some time, but an amber flag for me after 3 games.
The extended highlights show the build-up to both goals we conceded. For the first, Edwards pushed forward, then Jones launched a long diagonal ball back to their keeper, triggering a counter while we were out of shape. For the second, we won two consecutive headers in the midfield area but were quickly dispossessed and again caught out of position. Teams are exploiting us when players over-commit and leave gaps.
Last season, we often grabbed the opening goal and saw the game out with confidence, but we're facing tougher challenges now. Two weeks worth of training now...
