MICAH Mbick left Colchester United’s senior players suitably impressed after his first training session with the club.
U’s head coach Danny Cowley has revealed that the teenage striker, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Championship side Charlton Athletic last week, made a big impact on his first day at their Florence Park training ground.
Mbick, 18, made his Colchester debut as a second-half substitute in their 1-1 home draw with Crewe Alexandra, last Saturday.
Cowley said: “He’s going to be a good player, you ask the senior boys.
“He trained with us Thursday, Friday and a couple of seniors said to me ‘wow, that’s the best training debut you’ll ever see’ on Thursday.
“I think he scored six goals and made four assists.
“We count everything – we count the boys’ wins in training, their goals in training, their assists in training, we count their clean sheets in training, because we want the boys to compete and we train the boys to win.
“Winning is important, not just on matchday but every day.
“He’ll be just fine for us.
“I know he’s only 18 but let me tell you, he’ll be just fine for us.”
Colchester snapped up Mbick on a season-long loan on deadline day, to bolster their attacking options.
U’s boss Cowley says Charlton were reluctant to allow the teenage striker to leave in the summer transfer window but things changed after a chat with Addicks boss Nathan Jones.
Jones allowed the forward, who has made 11 senior appearances for Charlton having progressed through their academy ranks, to leave the Championship side on loan.
Colchester are now preparing for their clash at Accrington Stanley, on Saturday.
The game kicks off at 12.30pm, as it is being televised live on Sky Sports.
Colchester will be aiming to get back to winning ways after a four-game winless run, in League Two.
“Football is about outcomes and I don’t want to be a team that’s pleasing on the eye – I want to be a team that wins,” added Cowley.

Nathan Jones said something similar last season when Mbick came back from injury and joined the first team group for training. I can't remember the exact quote but it was along the lines of he was outstanding or done something that really impressed them, he then was part of the team going forward, so much so he trusted him to bring him on in the play-off final.
It's great he's making these big impressions early, seems like he's on the path to have a good career in the game. Hope he has a fantastic season at Colchester and comes back to us next season ready to kick on and be a regular in the Championship. Potential is there.
Yeah, it was before Cambridge A and NJ said they'd spotted something special in training and he was in for the rest of the season thereafter. I have to say I don't really see it. But his numbers at reserve level were great and hes clearly a physical threat. Be really interested to see how he gets on.
