Yep even when he played for London boys etc was always the same just look at his smug face.SE10Addick said:If you have a chat with anyone who knew him when he was young, before he got in the first team and even when he was in the first team, he would often put us down and slag us off.
He was always an arrogant twat and always has been.
So for me, he can go f**k himself.0 -
Because its a demonstrably false argument in response to my post. What do you mean by set forn life ? He went from earning 3.9 over 5 years to 10 million over 4.5 years in a blink of an eye, one gives him a real possiblility of being set for life if he is sensible and makes right investments, the other actually sets him and kids up for life.stoneroses19 said:
Not sure why you feel the need to Lol the post. Maybe earning £3.9m before tax in 5 years isn't "set up for life" for you, but that's a huge amount of money, and more than many people will earn in there career. So it's fair enough for original poster to say Parker was set for life, depending on lifestyle he wanted.Radostanradical said:
Lol are we just making things up to suit our agenda ? He was not set up for life, he had a signed a 5 year contract at 15k a week, it made him an extremely paid young man but set for life ? No.charltonkeston said:
He was finically set for life by anyones standard by the age of 23 at Charlton. Its really about the life style you want after that.Radostanradical said:
Couldn't agree more, especially in regards to young players and players yrt to make their fortune.Billy_Mix said:He was 23 when Chelsea and Abramovic's millions came knocking. After 4 years in Charlton's first team he'd already have been very well paid but then came the offer to set him up financially for life. Anybody on here suggesting they'd have risked putting off that transfer until the summer so they could see Charlton through to a possible European place, is deluded or a hypocrite or both. He was 3 years married at the time. One bad injury and that security is dust.
Chelsea's financial might meant they had the whip hand in negotiations, not just over Charlton. They mopped up more than just Spotty, from 'smaller' clubs then threatening the top 6.
The leak that he'd demanded the move, ensured his reputation was ruined with (some of) the faithful. The appearance of his brand new Aston Martin in the players' car park was a pretty loud FU. His conduct since has been exemplary but the sin of ambition is vehemently unforgiven in the minds of this noisy few. Weird.
Who really was the greater sinner? Parker and his ambition, or moneybags Chelsea and their flagrant abuse of the rules?
In contrast, the sale of Lee Bowyer to Leeds is accepted as 'one of those things, we're a selling club, can't turn down those millions'. I don't remember any leaks or rumours about how blatantly Lee had been tapped up, or how he then behaved if/when he found out. He had of course already misbehaved in ways for which people could legitimately think badly of him. He matured, didn't continually repeat the misdemeanours and his reputation with (most) Addicks is fully restored. Odd innit?
For some its a betting shop in Cobham, acting obnoxiously, slapping big wads of cash on the counter of the chip shop with your new more successful teammates.
For others and there are many there is a bigger picture.
That works out to be 3.9 million, before tax. Tax gets complicated as alot of clubs get round this by paying for image rights which isnt taxed work and whetger it would of been around at thhat time is another question for a player/club of this stature.1 -
PS anyone remember that championship match where he has an argument with one of our fans ? Think he was at Fulham ? Also remember him giving the bigun after he scored whilst at newcastle against us to make it 1-0 and we ended up winning 3-1 😂0

If you couldn’t make 15k/week, (I take your word for that amount), 20 years ago work for you, you’d either be incompetent or the person you have tasked with managing your affairs would have been incompetent or worse.Radostanradical said:

I'd have Parker back as our manager, no problems.

I'd hate Parker back as our manager, massive problem.14

Relegated with Fulham. 9-0 loss to Liverpool with Bournemouth. Sacked after twelve games with Club Brugge.ElfsborgAddick said:I'd have Parker back as our manager, no problems.
I can think of worse appointments we could make. But not many.6 -

He did. He got Bournemouth back to the Premier League after two seasons and Burnley after one. Charlton haven't been in the Premier League for almost a generation.ElfsborgAddick said:Chizz said:

There are many, many managers who have achieved promotion from the Championship. Not all of them should become manager of Charlton.
Parker should never, ever be even under consideration.12 -

Parker should never, ever be even under consideration.I get it that you do not like Parker, that is fair enough. In recent times, off the top of my head I would say Reed, Parkinson, Fraeye, Riga(the second time), Holden and Appleton. None of these should have been given the job, but I suppose from your side of the fence you will counter they did not do wrong with Charlton before their appointment.I am not saying you're wrong, I am not saying I am right, it is all about opinions.2 -

With Lyle Taylor as his assistant no doubtElfsborgAddick said:I'd have Parker back as our manager, no problems.4 -
Yeah, it was an evening game towards the end of the season with nothing riding on it. I think it was a draw. Parker was taking a corner and was getting a load of stick from the Family Stand! He couldnt handle it and lost his shit. That just made the "banter" worse and I thought he was going to burst into tears. It was great.Radostanradical said:PS anyone remember that championship match where he has an argument with one of our fans ? Think he was at Fulham ? Give me a 50 million quid in parachute payments and I'll get them promoted as well.ElfsborgAddick said:Chizz said:

He's a scum bag and deserves to hit his shin, HARD, the next time he gets on a train.
He's not one of us.
He screwed us a time that was pivotal.
I am indifferent to his future but he will never be Charlton manager we hate him.

Burnley completely robbed at Old Trafford yesterday but funny watching him moan about it (as much he’s right about VAR).2

We are seeing similar with Isak at Newcastle. Quoting promises nobody seems to be aware they have made. Surely you put these sort of promises into a contract as a clause if they are genuine. Now if Isak sustained a serious injury, he is protected to some extent by the contract. I hope he doesn't get the move and rots in the reserves. That is what he deserves but with all the money at stake he will either go to Liverpool or get integrated back into the Newcastle team at the end of the window.
With Parker, Chelsea clearly unsettled and bought him to derail us, That is why I am always pleased when the cheating bastards lose. Of course nothing can be proved, and he did go on to have a decent career but I think had he stayed he would have had a better one. He won young player of the year that season and it doubt it was for what he did playing for Chelsea reserves and out of position when he was rarely in the first team! Arsenal and Man Utd were both going to be in the running for a player like him in the Summer. Especially Man Utd who were losing Keane. Chelsea didn't really have a place for him.2 -
I'm a bit busy at the moment. Maybe next year.Amos on the wing said:

was chatting to somebody at the weekend who's son plays in the same team as Scott Parker's - says he's a really nice bloke, comes along to watch all the time, down to earth etc - shit happens but he's made his bed i'm afraid so no welcome back - Solly is the daftest one - downed tools after a whole career at Charlton , now that's all many will remember - saw him queuing fora drink on the concourse at Wembley on his own - can't imagine Johnny Jackson for example standing on his own, or fans not buying him a drink. Steve Gerrard did it right if you ask me - he could have won more elsewhere but will be a god in Liverpool for the rest of his life.1

Don’t agree regarding Solly, he gave his all for years and years and wasn’t even being played towards the end of that season. He had a young family to consider and his contract was essentially up, with his knees the way they were he wanted to protect himself and not risk any chance of still earning. If I’d seen him on the concourse I’d have bought him a pint and I believe most Charlton would do the same.6

Agree with all of your post but would like to know of the problems at the end of his time with us. Supposedly fit enough to play the last lot of games but was not going to be available.

Whilst running the risk of digging things up again doesnt that just highlight how bizarre of a decision it was by solly ? He wasnt going to play, he didnt need to refuse to play. He had hardly played anyway so he was unlikely to get any interest, in fact playing a match or two may have actually helped him find a club. Oppose that to my situation, sorry i mean lyle taylors, and im not condoning what he done but at least i can see the incentive for him to refuse to play, he had been a lower division player and was going to get a phenomonal payday. As much as we may dislike him for what he done all those arguments you make about Solly also have to be applied.buckshee said:Don’t agree regarding Solly, he gave his all for years and years and wasn’t even being played towards the end of that season.
