He went from earning 3.9 over 5 years to 10 million over 4.5 years in a blink of an eye, one gives him a real possiblility of being set for life if he is sensible and makes right investments, the other actually sets him and kids up for life.stoneroses19 said:

His conduct since has been exemplary but the sin of ambition is vehemently unforgiven in the minds of this noisy few. Weird.
Who really was the greater sinner? Parker and his ambition, or moneybags Chelsea and their flagrant abuse of the rules?
In contrast, the sale of Lee Bowyer to Leeds is accepted as 'one of those things, we're a selling club, can't turn down those millions'. I don't remember any leaks or rumours about how blatantly Lee had been tapped up, or how he then behaved if/when he found out. He had of course already misbehaved in ways for which people could legitimately think badly of him. He matured, didn't continually repeat the misdemeanours and his reputation with (most) Addicks is fully restored. Odd innit?
For some its a betting shop in Cobham, acting obnoxiously, slapping big wads of cash on the counter of the chip shop with your new more successful teammates.
For others and there are many there is a bigger picture.
That works out to be 3.9 million, before tax. Tax gets complicated as alot of clubs get round this by paying for image rights which isnt taxed work and whetger it would of been around at thhat time is another question for a player/club of this stature.1 -

Yeah, it was an evening game towards the end of the season with nothing riding on it. I think it was a draw. Parker was taking a corner and was getting a load of stick from the Family Stand! He couldnt handle it and lost his shit. That just made the "banter" worse and I thought he was going to burst into tears. We are seeing similar with Isak at Newcastle. Quoting promises nobody seems to be aware they have made. Surely you put these sort of promises into a contract as a clause if they are genuine. Now if Isak sustained a serious injury, he is protected to some extent by the contract. I hope he doesn't get the move and rots in the reserves. That is what he deserves but with all the money at stake he will either go to Liverpool or get integrated back into the Newcastle team at the end of the window.
With Parker, Chelsea clearly unsettled and bought him to derail us, That is why I am always pleased when the cheating bastards lose. Of course nothing can be proved, and he did go on to have a decent career but I think had he stayed he would have had a better one. He won young player of the year that season and it doubt it was for what he did playing for Chelsea reserves and out of position when he was rarely in the first team! Arsenal and Man Utd were both going to be in the running for a player like him in the Summer. Especially Man Utd who were losing Keane. Chelsea didn't really have a place for him.2 -

was chatting to somebody at the weekend who's son plays in the same team as Scott Parker's - says he's a really nice bloke, comes along to watch all the time, down to earth etc - shit happens but he's made his bed i'm afraid so no welcome back - Solly is the daftest one - downed tools after a whole career at Charlton , now that's all many will remember - saw him queuing fora drink on the concourse at Wembley on his own - can't imagine Johnny Jackson for example standing on his own, or fans not buying him a drink. Steve Gerrard did it right if you ask me - he could have won more elsewhere but will be a god in Liverpool for the rest of his life.1

Don’t agree regarding Solly, he gave his all for years and years and wasn’t even being played towards the end of that season. He had a young family to consider and his contract was essentially up, with his knees the way they were he wanted to protect himself and not risk any chance of still earning.If I’d seen him on the concourse I’d have bought him a pint and I believe most Charlton would do the same.6

Agree with all of your post but would like to know of the problems at the end of his time with us. Supposedly fit enough to play the last lot of games but was not going to be available.

Whilst running the risk of digging things up again doesnt that just highlight how bizarre of a decision it was by solly ? He wasnt going to play, he didnt need to refuse to play. He had hardly played anyway so he was unlikely to get any interest, in fact playing a match or two may have actually helped him find a club. Oppose that to my situation, sorry i mean lyle taylors, and im not condoning what he done but at least i can see the incentive for him to refuse to play, he had been a lower division player and was going to get a phenomonal payday.
