RIP Stephen Luscombe

It is being reported that the "other one" in Blancmange has passed away aged 70 - he had been poorly for a number of years apparently. I always though "Living on the Ceiling" was one of the definitive songs of the synthpop era. RIP Stephen.

  • and Blind Vision weren't bad neither.
  • RIP Stephen.
  • RIP Stephen struggled with illness for along time and as such wasnt really involved with Blancmange resurgence in the early 2000  , Favourite song Lorraine's my Nurse pure Synth pop .
  • RIP Stephen. Loved Blancmange when they started and some of their later stuff. Saw them on The Some Bizarre tour back in 1980 then 45 years later ( Stephen not involved). Waves is my favourite song of theirs.

Oh no, I know he'd been ill for quite a while and believe that's why Neil Arthur carried on the band on his own. I first saw them at The Gold Mine on Canvey Island at the time Waves came out - Depeche Mode and Alison Moyet were in the crowd. They were terrific. Always original, yet always distinctive. As well as a string of famous tracks, I'd say Happy Families was a stunning debut album, That's Love That It Is is probably one of the best produced pop songs ever. The Day Before You Came one of the most innovative cover versions, Mange Tout the most cleverly named albums, and Happy Families Too the best of remixes. Sad Day. RIP Stephen.
  • Sad Day. Always enjoyed seeing Blancmange in the early eighties they just seemed to really enjoy being on stage together in those days and always seemed shocked that people would pay to watch them.  Seen Neil on his own a few times in recent years but it was never quite the same without Stephen.  It is a shame that he had a number of health issues over the years that prevented him playing live and hope he is now in a better place and pain free. RIP Stephen
