  • One of the very few top British sportsmen seemingly universally liked by everyone.

    RIP Hitman
  • What a fighter and what a man.

To this day, I still say he was robbed against Mayweather.
His corner threw in the towel IIRC?

RIP - 46 is no age at all 🙁
Only after the god awful officiating of Joe Cortez who pretty much kept Hatton away from Mayweather for the first 5 rounds! Probably as he was paid to do.
Yeah, that's a fair point. Mayweather did a load of dancing as per. Not sure I'd say Ricky was robbed though - didn't really have him in any trouble. Still a fantastic fighter never ducked anybody. Also gave me one of my favourite press conference memories in the run up to that fight when he said he was missing his son in training, but the build-up had meant spending time with Mayweather who was 'like a fucking six year old' 🤣

    RIP Hitman

  • RIP - superb fighter - loved watching him box - had his demons post career, sadly - but he stayed with his people - fanatical Man City fan - watched / listened to many interviews he did post career - some made me very sad 😢
  • That win against Kostya Tszyu at the MEN Arena will go down as one of the most memorable UK held bouts. Atmosphere was absolutely electric.

A proper peoples champion. So sad

Not generally a Boxing fan but loved watching his fights, as he could combine ring craft with sheer street boxing when needed.

vividly remember watching that fight and for some reason even though it was in the UK in Manchester I'm sure it it didn't start till around midnight/1am - must've been for US TV?

Was at a house party at the time and I think the host was hoping everyone would be gone home by then

    RIP Ricky
  • Wow you’ve some memory @Elthamaddick

    -

The Ricky Hatton vs. Kostya Tszyu fight at the MEN Arena (Manchester) took place on the night of Saturday 4 June 2005 into Sunday 5 June 2005.

Because it was staged to suit the U.S. television audience (Showtime PPV), the main event ring walks didn’t happen until the early hours of Sunday morning UK time.

    • The fighters entered the ring at about 2:00 am (BST).
    • The first bell was rung at approximately 2:05–2:10 am (BST).

That timing was unusual for the UK but ensured it was broadcast live in U.S. prime time on Saturday evening.

  • later than I thought - the party host(s) wife wasn't too impressed I remember
  • Whole hearted fighter, always seemed troubled by weight and health issues .. R I P
