They may not of known until the day before this time around about police arrangements but still absolutely no announcements.
Even a tannoy announcement would've mitigated some of these issues, regardless of whether they were right or wrong.OhMyGodden said:Markg2004 said:In terms of communication from the club, sitting in the Upper West at a match a few seasons ago an announcement was made with 5 minutes to go that the gate onto Valley Grove that comes out by the away fans was closed post-match.

Club have had nearly 48hrs to address what happened on Saturday.....if it were a new player, kit, corporate event we would all hear about it multiple times....5 -

It'll be a load of old waffle when/if they do announce anything.

" Leaves a lot to be desired" I'd say.7 -
Themightyath2 said:For a start, attach some boarding to the gates so the fans can’t see each other, that would stop the goading between them. We’ve done this every Saturday home game for about 7 years. On our side you have a few people that visit the memorial garden to pay their respects, and a handful of others by the bottom of the stairs having a sly fag. It’s the furthest point away from the concourse so you are deliberately taking yourselves away from the stand. On the other side, hardly any away fans, even with a full away end, ever go near that gate area. Only ever for a sly fag or to make a quiet phone call. There’s only one or sometimes two very junior young stewards positioned there. And they usually looked bored senseless (don’t blame them).
There is never any interaction at all there between opposing fans (friendly or aggressive). On Saturday it was the first time I’ve ever seen opposing fans up against it. At half time I was only by there a minute or two and through the fence from the away side were a few blokes in the 60s growling, trying to make eye contact, get a response etc. others kept coming over to survey the scene but all they could see were a few norms, OAPs having a fag, chatting and completely oblivious to them. Had there been any form of gob or interaction back from the Charlton side, what happened at full time would have quickly escalated and happened at half time. And probably been a hundred times worse because once they all piled through there would have been a packed concourse with hundreds instead of half a dozen stragglers leaving via a little used exit.
Blame the police for a lot of the hassle on the day, but the clubs management was extremely poor. They knew if there were to be any in-game flashpoints it would have been through their fans securing tickets in the AC or West Stands (would never happen in the Covered End). Despite the higher crowd and risk potential, there didn’t seem to be a single extra steward in the AC stand on Saturday than there was when we played L1 midweek games with less than 1k in the stand. There wasn’t a single one of the escalation (bully boy) steward group positioned there nor police, just the usual ones whose role is basically telling people where their seats are or reminding visitors you can’t drink beer in pints. None of them are geared up to deal with any trouble.I hope the couple of young stewards that took some real aggro isolated on their own by that gate are ok, they were badly let down on Saturday.49 -

How about putting up signs near the turnstiles or having people with loud-hailers outside the turnstiles getting the message across.
It was clear when I walked out into Harvey Gardens that so many people had no idea which way to go, as people were trying to go both ways and with the shear numbers that made the matter worse. Things only got even worse when I reached Charlton Lane and found cars being allowed to mingle with the thousands of pedestrians.
I was pleased to go across to Coxmount Road and not to continue with the masses travelling towards the level crossing.
It must have been horrendous with that many people turning left on the pavements towards the station.4 -

If so many people never heard the PA announcement, is this not an issue in itself? Especially if it forms part of the fire evacuation system (PA/VA).4

For tomorrow:
Ahead of kick-off at Crystal Palace, millwallfc.co.uk releases the following information to ensure Lions supporters' visit goes as smoothly as possible...
Post-match, Millwall fans will exit the stadium and will be held temporarily outside the away turnstiles to allow home fans to disperse from the local area. Updates will be provided via a PA system on a regular basis to ensure regular communication is provided.17 -

So I took a video from the west stand must have been just after matey hit him and you can see the Charlton fan shove him away and then a Millwall fan (fair play) comes up the stairs and gets a few digs in on the Millwall fan who then has a little dig at the Good Samaritan scum fan.
then another pond life tries to throw same Charlton fan down the stairs but he’s pretty solid and the old snide goes back down the stairs .1 -

Perhaps @valleynick66 would like to explain if he still thinks "... with hindsight and having the opportunity to reflect, the decision by the police to not hold back Millwall could still be argued by the police to be reasonable. There is some logic in trying to remove 3k quickly given the perceived risk of adverse reaction by them if kept waiting."1 -

To repeat I’m observing the police can argue their logic has some merit. That is all.I’m not saying it’s right or that I support it but simply saying they can defend it. What they and the club can’t defend is its execution/implementation.The comparison to Palace isn’t particularly relevant particularly as they likely get held back at many grounds. The police logic may be the greater ‘localness’ to us and our relative lack of hooliganism means a direct comparison is not the whole story. That’s my speculation of how they could justify it.I don’t really understand your dig. I’m forecasting the outcome of any review the club and police may make.5 -

I think this whole debacle has shown that people making the decisions at the club have no understanding or respect for us The Fans. The lack of communication, before & during the match was woeful and its inexcusable that for 2 days the club & comms dept have gone AWOL! The club have scored a big own goal rather than nip this in bud, by holding up their hands and explained why decisions were made to prioritise Millwall & stewarding & policing of The Sam Bartram Gate incident which saw fans attacked.Let's hope Tuesday morning the club act swiftly by acknowledging how they fell short & that this wont happen again. The fan liaison team & CAST need to say something or what is the point of them?
For all the on field improvements under Nathan, Our clubs admin and comms depts feel like a bunch of disorganised amateurs.14 -
