There is still plenty of parking but a 15 minute walk to the ground - we been parking in the same place for years and don’t get the gridlock queues like if u go closer - problem is my dad is getting less mobile and the walk is more like 25 minutes now - time for a multi story underground car park at the valley ?
Greenwich Council's imminent proposed parking restrictions in Charlton and across the borough, will either directly or indirectly negatively effect the majority of Charlton fans and most definitely the club we support.
If you drive to the games you will have even more severely restricted parking opportunities.
If you can find a place to park it is most likely that you will have the cost and inconvenience of having to pay on an app to park.
If you come by train, you will find the trains becoming increasingly more packed as people are forced from their cars.
If you come by bus you will also see the buses more crowded.
If you are fit and able to use public transport now, try and think forward to what position you might find yourself in in future years.
Cars are more eco friendly than they have ever been and I assume will become increasingly more eco friendly.
This is simply a cash grab at the expense of residents, businesses, football fans et al.

In our Premier League days local businesses opened up their spaces for parking for £5.
I still don’t understand why more businesses in the industrial estates by the river don’t do this. Might be our years of under performance made it not viable, but with online apps like just park, you can even sell it out without the need for cash on the day.
I drove to Wembley stadium last week and there were 10-15 industrial estate ‘car parks’ charging £20 (official parking is £35) so there must be demand.

This can only have a negative effect on Charlton's attendances (wait until we start losing) and will effect nearly all fans as more fans will be forced/encouraged onto already over capacity train and bus services.

The council have arranged a Charlton resident’s consultation meeting for 6pm on Wednesday 24th September at Charlton House.
Some may think that is a remarkable coincidence, as it is scheduled to start at the exact same time as the demonstration against the proposed CPZ at 6pm on Wednesday 24th September at Woolwich Town Hall.
I hope some Charlton fans join the demonstration, if only to try and defeat these deceitful people that put themselves forward to represent their constituents when in reality they are there to ignore and oppose the residents, in any way they possibly can.
I also hope they are voted out at the next council elections which I am told are in May 2026.

A backbench Labour councillor has been given a temporary promotion to Greenwich Council’s cabinet and will be taking charge of the controversial “sustainable streets” scheme to extend controlled parking zones in the north of the borough.
Calum O’Byrne Mulligan, who represents Creekside, will step up to be cabinet member for climate action, sustainability and transport while the council’s deputy leader, Averil Lekau, takes a period of absence.
O’Byrne Mulligan, who was first elected in 2022, is a keen cyclist and as a backbench councillor has pressured his colleagues on topic such as the broken escalators at Cutty Sark DLR station –
As much as we pressure, and I have signed the petition, I can’t see Greenwich backing down personally. They’ve got such high internal targets to be green and sustainable, I just envision them doing more and more things to say they’ve achieved it.
