Feels like there's no jeopardy to them losing though.
It's so hard for the top clubs to fail to get out of the league stage now.
It's pretty hard for any big club to fail given that the top 24 go through.
But there is some jeopardy as we saw last season with Man City and Real Madrid only making the play off round and drawing each other. Other big clubs like Juventus and AC Milan made it through but were then knocked out in the play off round.
So you definitely want to try and make the top 8, not only to avoid a banana skin in the play off round, but also because you don't have to play 2 extra games.
Flip side to that argument is that (from memory) PSG lost their first 4 games, went into the play off round and then won the whole thing
They had 4 points from 5 games but then won the last 3. Their entire season turned around with the comeback v Man City in game 7. 0-2 down and would've ultimately gone out had they lost, but came back and won 4-2..........and the rest is history.
I miss there being home and away ties between the same teams. I know it happens in the knockouts but there was something great about seeing the difference between games at the “big” clubs stadium and then somewhere in Eastern Europe

You'll still get that with the Conference League games played at Selhurst Park
I prefer it, there is an element of luck of draw but the same as before with seedings just some are going to get a better draw. The drama on the last week last season was good as there were a lot of things to play for, definitely more drama
Interesting that people are coming around to the new format. Makes me wonder if we could see something similar at a World Cup in the future.
I’m imagining the 48 teams split evenly (based on ranking) into two split divisions of 24 each, meaning you still only need 12 host stadiums to ensure everyone can kick off at the same time on the last match day.
Eventually you could see FIFA expanding to 60 or 64 teams where you’d need 15 or 16 stadiums available.

Not all that keen on Rashford and think he can be very wasteful but that just proves why he should be in the England squad. Can create goals from nothing and there's not many others who can do that in the squad
