I was in the Jimmy Seed, and can’t remember any spare seats. We were in with stoke and I was stuck in the bottom West corner because it was packed everywhere else.DaveMehmet said:

aware of that, but still looks pretty full I'm guessing circa 3k Covered End, terrace along corner / side looks full + West Stand and then can't see Jimmy Seed standard. Not disputing, just looks like more to me at a glance. Blurry pic mind!Airman Brown said:

I used to always stand between the main stand and the Covered End, but I had a weekend job at LBC, just off Fleet Street, and when I got to the ground the turnstiles were closed as the section was full. Paid £5.20 and got a seat in the main stand, sitting right over on the right so I could look down and see my dad and our friends in our usual place. Had that ticket in my wallet for years after that, until a pen leaked in my jacket pocket and ruined the wallet and the ticket 🤦🏻♂️0

I sat in The Main Stand for the first time that day. I don't know why because we (my brothers and I) normally always went on one of the terraces either side. Perhaps it was because those terraces were packed and my Mum was with us that day. She and my Dad started going regularly again from that point on. The adversity of those times strengthened our family's support of the club. Mind you, Lennie's new team didn't hurt.
The atmosphere that day was strange. I can't believe it was 40 years ago. We should have requested to play Stoke at home this weekend.3 -
My perception of time is really weird…the 40 years since this game feels like a lifetime ago! But…I received a 7 inch single in the post today which is a red vinyl rerelease of The Style Council’s first single, Speak Like a Child…to celebrate 40 years since it was released (19th Sept).I know the game was 40 years ago, but I absolutely refuse to believe that I first bought that single 40 years ago…that just isn’t possible 🫣🤦🏻♂️😂1

I am exactly 45 year old. Sadly I didn't see football at The Valley before Selhurst. I saw my first match in '89. But my dad drove my brother and I to The Valley to look at it in it's derelict state many times. I didn't understand the gravity of it until I was at the Portsmouth game in '92.Lewis Coaches said:Anyone under 45 years of age has no idea what we went through over this period of Charlton Athletic history.
Glad you also have a sense of occasion be it or not an unhappy one.
Problem of course being we our no longer owners of our beloved Valley.
Great photos by the way .
Seeing it in it's sorry state makes me appreciate it all the more now.

Lost count of the number of times that I drove to Charlton from Welling, during those 7 years, just to look at the ground from various vantage points.4

What a video.
A pity it's not clearer images.
I was on the pitch at half time and at full time, but can't see myself.
I could see @southamptonaddick talking to Lennie Lawrence on the pitch towards the end of half time.
I also recognised an old skinhead Steve Allchurch (haven't seen him in 40 years).
It looked like Rick with a banner on the pitch at full time.
Plenty of other faces I recall, but don't know names.1 -
I hate to tell you, but that single first came out in 1983! Sounds like someone at the record company can’t count.TelMc32 said:My perception of time is really weird…the 40 years since this game feels like a lifetime ago! But…I received a 7 inch single in the post today which is a red vinyl rerelease of The Style Council’s first single, Speak Like a Child…to celebrate 40 years since it was released (19th Sept).I know the game was 40 years ago, but I absolutely refuse to believe that I first bought that single 40 years ago…that just isn’t possible 🫣🤦🏻♂️😂0
