I don't know how relevant this is, but many people my age use their console as their media device. My dad gets sky and nicely had a spare device on his plan that I use on my PS5.

The sky app on consoles is terrible and they don't allow you to access red button content like many EFL games.

There are threads of this for online help and they just say 'sorry don't do that' when it's the same price and service.

Something I imagine they could fix fairly easily but they just are such tight nobs they don't bother.
  • Lucky I already booked my flight to Belgium in anticipation for this.
I always hop over to Belgium to watch such games. As near as you can get.

That’s by design, it’s the same using Sky Go on a laptop. They don’t want you to be able to access games via their apps using someone else’s account.

For me it takes the value away from the Charlton Live international subscription. I’ve just had to subscribe to Paramount+ in the States. An extra $7.99 a month. I suppose I can watch the Champions League on there. Last season it was all covered free on CBS.

    Times they are a changing.

Much prefer Luxembourg, the air is far better. 😬

If I'm BeIn Sport, I have paid a load of money to allow me to show an EFL game if I want to in my territory. Perhaps I'm showing racing but there's a thunderstorm so that's off and so I bung on the game I'm getting on the satellite link, I don't care what it is but I'll show it so there's something between the adverts on my channel. Now, if the supporters of the two clubs playing that game don't like it then that's too bad, perhaps they should convince their clubs not to be part of this deal, or resign from the EFL that I did the deal with.

Is there an argument that CAFC would earn more from selling its stream than joining a deal that includes all the other clubs?

Or is the argument that technology makes all these restrictions meaningless and therefore it's pointless to join.
How would Bein sport lose out to a club stream if (as in the scenario you suggest, BA) absolutely nobody knows you are showing it until Longchamps is under a foot of water?

Literally no-one is paying their Bein subscription on the 1000/1 chance that A ) it's too damp for the nags to run and B ) that out of the entire football league (and the other leagues they have rights to that may be kicking off at the same time) they are going to choose CAFC v Blackburn.

Especially on a night where there was a bunch of Champions league games, plus Asian champions league as well.

But you could have used the money you paid Paramount on a sub for a decent VPN, which in today’s world is an investment beyond just the ability to watch Charlton TV. If for example you are using Wifi in cafes…

And it is important to understand that VPNs are not some sort of dodgy immoral hack!

Without VPN, working from home would be almost impossible for many people. The underlying software was created by computer companies for that purpose and it will be very difficult for them to withdraw it now!

Nord are not trying to rip anyone off!

The more people that sign up to VPNs, the less chance there is that Microsoft and Google will be able to control (and charge for) absolutely everything we do on our computers!

I can't see the Preston game up to buy yet.

In terms of my VPN, which happens to be Nord, it offers me general protection. I have a dark web monitor, ad and tracker blocker, advanced browsing protection and anti malware as well as the VPN feature. Also it is available on 10 devices. Great value for what works out at just over £4 per month.

Luxembourg doesn’t seem to be allowed any more.
  • When does the stream usually go on sale?

I had a look last night, but couldn’t see anything?

What’s the destination of choice where to watch this from , meaning I haven’t a clue what country to choose cos the kids couldn’t get on last time from Luxembourg where we’ve always gone to to watch .

I think it was stated higher in this thread, Germany have not purchased champ rights so appears the best bet (location and availability).

Hi, @BalladMan as a tech savvy Lifer do you agree with the advice I came across recently that its best to choose a location which is physically as close to your actual location as possible?

I've recently subscribed to Surfshark and when giving you a list of server locations from which to choose, it advises which are the fastest. These for me are Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland, italy and the US. So I reckon the answer to your query is yes, with the US included due to good infrastructure.
Less obviously, India is also on the list.
  • I presume Charlton TV can be watched in Uganda, where our young fan Wogoli lives or will he need a VPN etc?

    https://www.castrust.org/2025/09/from-ugandan-backpages-to-the-valley/

In a small town in Uganda thousands of miles from SE7, a young man named Wogoli Willington, 19, has become one of Charlton Athletic’s most passionate supporters.
  • You’ll have to excuse my ignorance on this (and I’m sure it’s been mentioned how to do it earlier in this thread) but I’m not the best at this.

The £7-a-month Charlton TV option says on the website you can’t watch live games - can I still purchase a membership as if I am in the UK first or do I have to pretend I’m in a different country first via a VPN or is that irrelevant?

I think I have got the gist of the VPN and how to use it, thankfully.

    Thank you in advance all.

Just buy todays match for a tenner on this link and go aboard with your VPN, finding a country to visit depends on international TV rights.

     https://www.charltonafc.com/news/how-watch-saturdays-preston-north-end-clash

    Midweeks & KO's not Sat 3pm are on SKY+

I may have missed something? Hopefully not and you can see todays match

You'll need to be abroad and in a country that does not have rights to show the match to buy the match stream for a tenner, or the streaming season ticket. Those options won't show if you are in the uk

Yes in theory. Near location = Lower latency = faster and more stable connection. To be honest, the throughput of the CharltonTV feed is not particularly data hungry (it’s not 4K or even HD) so I don’t suspect it would make a massive difference in this particular case.

I would probably focus more on the locations that are likely NOT to be geo blocked (Germany, as you said) than a country nearer to origin than Germany.
