There is some quality drama out as autumn nights draw in
Apple Tv Slow Horses with Gary Oldmans....Jackson Lamb and his team are very hard act to beat. Season 5, both episodes released thus far are drama at its very best.
BBC's Blue Light excellent Northern Ireland cop series, very well cast, giving Slough House's cast a good run for their money....but Slow Horses edges it as best Brit drama by far... 5*****
Netflixs - House of Guiness, another Stephen Knight dramas, lush, rich, costumes, very OTT with heavy music, wasn't sure about the fight scene edited to Knee Cap?
Reading reviews seems to improve around ep3?

I used to work with one of the actors in Blue Light many years ago, I watched an episode the other day, definitely worth a watch.

Currently watching the us office spin off “the paper”. Quite enjoyable, hope it gets a second series as I think like the us office it’ll take off after the second season after they work out all the actor’s strengths etc. Tim key’s character does come across like a bad David Brent impression, which I hope they’ll sort out (like Michael Scott’s character transforms after season 1).

Already commissioned for another series apparently.

New Monster on Netflix. Ed Gein Story. Not for the feint hearted.
Monster:The Ed Gein Story on Netflix - very good.

Anyone been watching Alien: Earth? Thought the first 2 and a half episodes were proper garbage, then the last half of episode 3 was much better. If it had continued in the same vein for the rest of that episode I mightve binned it off but that last half an episode has bought it some time!
I'm trying really hard with it but I'm struggling. The acting is good especially Timothy Olyphant and the lead girl

This finished a couple weeks ago - Don't know if it got talked about much but thought it was pretty crap by the end!

    Agree

Think they ballsed up a great opportunity to tell an exciting story in favour of copping out to get a second series

Surprised myself by enjoying the first two episodes. It's funny watching 'The Traitors' lie through their teeth to survive.
  • Black Rabbit (Netflix)

Crime drama - utterly shocking. Terrible script and bad acting. Jude Law's accent is interesting...

    Frauds.

    Suranne Jones and Jodie Whitaker.

Sack of shit. Like they took the worst episode ever of Hustle and asked ChatGPT to make it even worse and set it in Spain.

    Total pants.

Had to binge watch over two nights just to get of it.

Zero Day on Netflix starring De Niro

had the makings of a good story but just couldn’t keep us interested and was glad when it finished.

Currently watching the us office spin off “the paper”. Agreed re: Tim Key. I think his character has potential, but as you say, in danger of just becoming a Brent impression.

Another character needs work though, in my opinion (some mild spoilers):

Esmerelda’s character might be what makes or breaks this show. I think she’s pretty divisive already, because some think she’s the best thing in it and others think she’s awful. For what it’s worth, my opinion is that they need to give her some personality traits that aren’t simply ‘batshit crazy’ or ‘insufferably selfish’ otherwise she’s going to end up ruining the show. At the moment, her comedy moments are cartoonish and over the top, (like the weird wedding crashing) but most of them aren’t based on her being odd, quirky or weird (like, say, Dwight Schrute), but simply being nasty, selfish, inconsiderate or vindictive.
She’s incompetent too, which I know was always part of the schtick with the office, but all incompetent characters always either had some redeeming qualities to temper it or it tapped into their embarrassment suffered and efforts to wriggle out of tight spots. Esmeralda has no self awareness and no concept of embarrassment, regret or even bloody mindedness - none of it even occurs to her. She simply doesn’t have any redeeming qualities (even elements of her home life is shown and she’s an obnoxious awful parent too) She’s just horrible, shit at her job and selfish. That’s her entire character.
After that rant, you may think I think her character needs dropping, but in all honesty, I think it has potential, but they’ve just gone in too hard too fast. Season one of The Office (US) and Parks and Recreation both had wobbly starts and characters that needed tweaking (or removing altogether) and I think Esmeralda could become a favourite, but she needs quite a bit of fine tuning.

Anyway, there’s my opinion. I’m glad it’s back. It wasn’t perfect, but I reckon it could become a decent show.

I persevered with it and at least it reached a conclusion. I feared it would be open to a second season.

What annoyed me most was how ‘dark’ the lighting was. I felt it was hard work to follow the action on some scenes. Seems an issue with more and more shows I find ie general production quality.

Can’t get enough of Gary Oldman’s character in Slow Horses.
    Great entertainment.

The fart scene this week had me in bits.

I feel obliged to watch it through to the end to see what happens - it feels the whole thing was AI generated. Hard to care for any characters - all are one-dimensional...

Struggling big time with the latest Alan Partridge series . I loved the previous series but this just isn’t funny . He needs to get back behind the radio mike or TV camera .
