Good news, great to test them in men’s football.

    Can they play each other?

No, Senior Cup for the U21s and Senior Trophy, a lesser standard, for the U18s.

Is this a bit like Palace and Lyon?

Can't have two teams with the same owners in the same competition?

Obviously, London FA competitions are more important.

Senior Trophy is full of teams like Bridon Ropes and Meridian VP (so could get a Charlton derby) or Lewisham Borough - teams a bit further down the pyramid.
  • The draw for the LFA Senior Trophy was made yesterday and the Under 18s have been drawn away to Sporting Hackney. This is new territory for our youngsters, and it will be interesting to find out whether their youth, fitness and professional coaching will be enough to see them through against older and more experienced opposition.

They groundshare with Barking, another ground worth a visit.

    It's nearly in Wales.

Will wait till we get a local team.

May end up being of interest to anyone who doesn't fancy the trip to Preston:

Sporting Hackney v Charlton Athletic under-18
    Saturday 4 October, 3pm kickoff.

I don't know if that's a completely-fixed schedule - all the fixtures in round 1 have the same date and time but I'm not sure if that's a rule or if it's open to negotiation.

If we make it to the second round that's 15 November away at the winner of "Rising Ballers Kensington" v Clapton Community.

Rising Ballers of Kensington have been favourite non-league team for some time.

Barking have an Essex Senior league home fixture on 4 Oct, so unless its played at 12:30 or 6 it won't be on that date.

Looking back at last year's competition, it looks like some clubs moved games to Friday nights or Sunday afternoons to avoid clashes, while others moved games a week forward or back. It's not as flexible as the Senior Cup that the under-21s play in, which is played midweek evenings, but there should be options.

Ah so that is why they got knocked out of the League Cup tonight- focus on the bigger prizes  B)
  • According to Sporting Hackney's Instagram page their one home game so far this season was at Douglas Eyre Sports Centre, which is a multi-pitch place near Blackhorse Lane tube. Nothing on any of our channels as yet, but what else is new. Looks like Saturday 4 October, and 3pm kickoff unless they decide different.

It'll be unusual to play this as normally midweek.  However, it may put a few more on the gate, every little helps.
  • The match against Sporting Hackney has been postponed from this Saturday as the Under 18s now have a league match. The new date is still to be arranged.

Following most of the first round games being played, we now know that the winner of our game at Sporting Hackney will be away at Clapton Community.

According to the London FA website, the game is now at 11am this Saturday, 18 October, at Sparrows Lane. Which presumably means no access unless you're in Valley Gold or you're part of the visitors' club. Disappointing, but there will be reasons why it's been done this way.

Also, the official site says the under-18s are supposed to be playing Bournemouth on Saturday. I'm confused.

I've never been asked to show anything. You generally just walk in, then wait by the hut in the car park until spectators are allowed in. I don't see why this fixture will be any different?

I know the club tends mot to put anything out about the under-18s in advance of games, but currently the London FA think we're playing Sporting Hackney tomorrow but both our OS and Bournemouth's think we're playing Bournemouth away. So I'm not convinced the London FA details are right.

Sporting Hackney said that they're playing our 18s at Sparrows Lane tomorrow as little as four hours ago.

It's possible that there are two U18 fixtures in one day and it may be younger players playing against Sporting Hackney tomorrow. In pre-season this year, our friendly against AFC Whyteleafe involved 14-17 year olds.

TBH I'm more inclined to trust the Instagram of a small non-league club than our OS. Also notable that they don't say anything about restricted access or special arrangements so unless they really aren't expecting anyone other than players to be interested they must be expecting that their own supporters will be allowed in.

There is no game. Charlton U18s have withdrawn from the competition.

Apparently, all of the staff involved at Charlton didn't realise that this was a competition for adults until Sporting Hackney turned up with a bunch of 30+ year olds this morning.

As I suspected, this wasn't a proper U18s team for Charlton and would have featured 14-17 year olds. Charlton didn't want children playing fully grown men, so have forfeited the tie.

We'd have been ok with it if they'd been over 60?
