... it wouldn’t surprise if we are looking for a forward in the January window
    Karlan Grant on loan

Well he certainly showed tonight that he absolutely CAN make a difference at Championship level... though it has to also be acknowledged that he looks very good as an impact player off the bench.

Suspect NJ has a bit of a dilemma now, but in a really good way.

NJ has a dilema in most positions but as you say in a really good way. It’s driving higher standards and expectations. If anyone drops off there are others waiting for their chance.

Exciting to think we still have Edwards and Godden to come back, Apter and Hernandez waiting to even get a chance off the bench, JRC and Knibbs as alternatives in midfield etc.

Even Ramsay isn’t guaranteed his place, and Fullah and Anderson can’t even make the bench with 9 sub spots available.

Relative to the level we play at, I would say this is shaping up to be one of the deepest and most balanced squads I can remember us ever having. We've probably had more standout first XIs but in terms of being able to take one good player out and bring in a replacement who will maintain a very similar standard and/or offer us something a bit different, I can't remember much better squads.

No dilemma for me, TC starts Saturday. He’s definitely in our best team. The debate is who starts up front with him

I don’t mind which pair starts but I think we would be silly to consider changing from KelmanxOloafe and TCxLeaburn after tonight’s game

His cameo last night was as good as he has produced all season, along with Millwall.. Young didn’t want to go toe to toe with him, and gave Campbell so much space.

him and Leaburn linked up so
    well.
  • Coming on as sub when your team is already 2-0 up is obviously not the same as starting because the dynamics of the game are completely different but what the team and TC did last night was more akin to last season and less so what they’ve been doing this season so far.

Basically, we were passing the ball to TC more. I’ve long thought he is the type of player that needs to be constantly given the ball in order to get the best out of him, otherwise he can drift and be off the pace when he does get the ball, that or the defender(s) have more time to deal with him, if he is not constantly kept on his toes and trying to take on and beat defenders.

Play TC from the start but give him the ball more like last night. It will start to tie up 2 or 3 defenders when he starts getting into full flow like he did last season and can you imagine what Carey will then be able to do if he’s then a lot more space.

So because he has shown he plays far better coming off the bench against tired opponents and more space...you want to start him?

Thought it was clear last night's pairings is the way to go.

Interestingly, he kept popping up on the right yesterday. Post match NJ said the tactic was to leave 2 up top to go 2v2 with their defence. My instant reaction when watching was that TC was playing less in the hybrid role and more as an out and out striker with freedom to roam across the front line. I think that's his best role personally

He’s been starting all season and we’ve been doing well, and so has he. It’s easier to come off the bench and do well, but you still start your best players

Jones interview afterwards made it sound like it was a tactical decision, to go with 2 strikers to be left 2v2 against the Ipswich centre backs. Olaofe and TC play that position differently so it depends what we need for the opposition we are up against. I think most of the time that will be TC

I hope we keep the same pairings but I’m actually expecting TC to come back in for Tanto on Saturday, I’d start Leaburn as well but think it’ll be back to Kelman and TC
  • The first goal is always going to be so important, so you start with whatever partnership can achieve you that.

Campbell and Leaburn worked so effectively last night, because Ipswich had to go for it, so left the gaps and space for Campbell to exploit when he's had very little of that joy this season to date, because he's often been playing at 0-0, maybe 1-0 (where the game is still tight), or 0-1 where the opposition will defend tighter.

Had we been losing 1-0 against Ipswich, I imagine Campbell / Leaburn wouldn't have been as effective as what we saw.

When they were coming through the ranks together we saw plenty of Campbell to Leaburn goals just like last night.

Whilst he’s not scored yet hasn’t he got at least 3 assists in the league now? Last night, Saturday to Carey (does that count with it being a deflected Carey shot and rebound back in?) and Apters goal at QPR.

    He starts all day long!

It can both be true that TC is better coming off the bench against tired defenders and that he is also our best starting in that hybrid role to stretch and tire the defence.

Doesn’t officially count as an assist for the Wednesday goal but doubt you can say it’s not if you play a player through on goal and that player scores

His assist was great but this bit of attacking play from 18:43 (captured by @Braziliance) is a great example of how dangerous a confident TC is

I thought he looked great coming on as a sub, he could burn all his energy without having to worry about lasting the full match. I thought tanto and kelman up top were a great partnership and would stick with them as starters going forward. Just imagine what it must be like for a tired defence to look over at the subs and see a rapid, fresh TC and a monster in ML getting ready to come on.

3 players on him and he goes past them with such ease
  • The upper body strength of Oloafe is an advantage over TC in the first half when defenders are normally very tight on their forwards.

TC likes to receive the ball in a little bit of space in order to get into his stride and doesn't seem to like to receive the ball facing his own goal with a defender on his back.

Coming on as a sub, against tiring defenders and with more space in which to work, is an ideal scenario for him.
Let Oloafe rough them up and tire them out, then unleash TC to take full advantage.

What’s great is the flip of this is also true. When TC starts he runs at defenders and takes a lot of concentration to stop, tiring them out. Then Tanto’s superior strength is up against tired defenders. Whichever starts, the sub coming on his horrible for the opposition
