My father at 58 had a partner 43. Never lived together, but spend 6 nights a week together at his or hers. She had two daughters who over the years treated my Dad like a father. All good until at 75 my dad was aging in health, and early dementure signs. He didn’t want to go out much or holidays anymore.  She was a fit healthy 60 and wanted to live a life. She basically called my sister and said your Dads going to need more support from you.  With that she stepped back from their relationship and the visits became phone calls.  She never completely abandoned him, but was close. Even in his later confused state, he brought a tear to my eye when said to me “ Me and Joan aren’t the same anymore are we son”.

It’s only later in life, that the gap causes problems, and understandably so.

My wife is thirteen years younger than me.
    Been married 34 years now & I'm now 79.
She's a Latino, luckily I've got young genes!
Still love the Latino party's & dancing.

I’m 15 years older than my wife. Everything is great so far. I’m now 70 and we’ve been together for 20 years so I think I’m a keeper!
Interestingly, to me anyway, my major relationships have been me 10 years younger when I was in my 20s and then same age for my first marriage of 25 years and now me being older.

Ex was 8 years younger than me, after 7 years binned me off for a bloke 9 years older than me. Surely not a pound note involved. Happily moved on from that in no small thanks to my friends and fellow fans

I should probably add my father in law to this as the expert on age gaps. He's 77, 78 in November. His 'current' girlfriend (there's been a few in the past 25 years) is 58.........

Only to be topped about 15 years ago just before he retired so around 63. He brought round for dinner 'the lady from HR' she was less than a year older than me at the time, 39! My wife (his daughter) was not overly impressed to see 'step mum' being literally weeks older than her  :D
  • 11 years between me (70) and my wife. The gap has never been a problem and some on here will have seen that we recently completed walking the 800 kms Camino Frances route together, so general health and fitness is not a factor. However, I am beginning to suffer from problems with arthritis in an ankle, so am looking to see what can be done about that in order we can continue to be active together.

How on earth did you both cope with that?

Did you know the lady from HR was your age before the father in law turned up with her?

I can only imagine how your wife felt!

I'm 51 and the wife is 43 - don't notice the age gap in the slightest until something on the TV makes me say 'I remember that' and she just looks at me blankly

Funny that, my wife who is 6 months older than me is quite the opposite. She stares at me blankly on occasions when I say "I remember that".

So clearly nothing to do with any very small age gap, I reckon it's a form of denial!

P.S. I will deny saying that if challenged.

Nope, we were both unaware! It wasn't unusual for him to invite a lady friend over (he would always come over for Sunday lunch), it was only when I opened the door my chin hit the floor.

TBH, he's always been a bit crazy. He lost his wife/my mother in law back in 1998 and for a few years was very down and depressed. They'd been together since teenagers. It was partly our fault sending him on a singles holiday, he never looked back after that and I had to listen to all the gory details when I picked him up from Gatwick!! He was in a small hotel, about 30 people, 3 blokes (inc him, the other two much older) the rest women mostly divorced, including the rep, so you can imagine to goings on..........

But after seeing how he suffered losing his wife at such a young age after nursing her for 6 years with cancer, just to see him smiling again and enjoying life made it easier, and I was only a little bit jealous...... My wife just laughs about it all, again, just content to see her dad happy even if he does some crazy things from time to time. They have a great relationship, almost like friends more than father daughter, although she is very protective of him, I often joke it's like role reversed and she's now his parent!

23 years between me and the wife. (61-38) been together 18 years and have the most wonderful 11 year old son.
Gotta ask @kakaka how did a 43 year old and a 20 year old get together?

    61/38 sounds a lot different to 43/20
We met at a friend's birthday weekend away. Started texting and meeting up after. I must be honest, I didn't think it would last and was just a bit of fun. Most of my friends said it wouldn't last but we just get on so well together and here we are now. Was actually 42/19  😎

Last night of our holiday tonight.
