That one in the first minute looked a potential red or surely a yellow for diving if he didn’t touch him ..
on that longer highlights video it looked like he was clipped massive decision early on that should have been a red , I reckon 20 mins in he’d have sent him off or at least a yellow and given them a free kick

I agree about the shit atmosphere. Was one of them where you could just sense it in the air that we werent gonna be any good. Dunno if kids for a quid has any effect but the worst fan wise we've been all season.

Definately take a point in the north upper we have some seriously delusional fans, nearly booing that we didn’t win ffs. It’s a point towards championship football next year ffs
The booing was for the ref
That's even weirder. Almost all his bad decisions were in our favour!
I didn't mind the ref. He let a lot of things go, but he was consistent. No cards either, when we have Jones and Coventry on 3 yellows I think.

Indeed the big controversial call is whether Gillesphey should have been sent off.

Just watched the 15 min highlight package .. what was Leaburn doing nearly scored an own goal and kept a shot in that was going wide which neatly cost us very late on… at the time it looked like Jones
Sums you up that you think Miles and Lloyd look the same. Also Miles was superb in defence yesterday, hooked one away and cleared one off the line.

I agree with the consensus on here. We have played better and will do so again so a good point against a decent side. Got a lot of respect for Swansea as a club/fan base. Thought they were excellent again yesterday

A good point against a decent side, however just like the sheff wed match we gave up too much ground in midfield in the last 35 mins. Eventually teams will pick you off.

Kamikaze could have done better with the goal but made a great point blank save around the same time.

Hope the injuries don't hurt us too much.

Just seen the highlights on ITV. Didnt realise our goal was just 20 seconds into the 2nd half. I wonder how many of the "must have a pint at half time" brigade missed our goal 😂😂😂😂😂
You are such an odd man!

We absolutely need to upgrade Gillesphie in January. Apart from his lack of pace dragging us deeper (Swansea dominated midfield because their defence pushed up to halfway) He gave away the goal last time and almost produced s carbon  copy early on. He wasn't tight enough for the goal and didnt close down. Should he even have been on the pitch?

Evan Weir at Walsall? Although I think when Edwards is back, he should go to LCB.
  • Look at Doc’s reaction after our goal.. buzzing for Kelman! Great to see

We really lack creativity in central midfield. It was clear against Hull and clearer yesterday. The three central midfielders we are starting are almost the same type of player.

Bloke on the Swansea blog said the ref was the worst he had seen this season.

Sorry for not having read the whole thread, maybe it’s been mentioned.
However at the game I thought that Gillesphey should probably have been sent off for a foul as last man in the first minute, seeing the replay it turns out he played the ball brilliantly.

Have to agree with you, Macca's gets a lot of love for his play-off goal and redemption in the second half of last season, but as Plymouth found out, dont think he is up to this level

A shame he couldn't have had a propper reaction to the BB huge gap between their centre half and the goalscorer. Does he need a rest with a run of Sat/Tues/Sat games?

It’s been 18 months of Nathan Jones and people are still shocked with this. The requirements for a Charlton midfielder is pace, stamina, strength and aggression. creativity doesn’t exist in this team

We looked nervy from the off. Reece Burke ducks that long pass (why!?) and forces Gillesphey to make a dangerous desperation tackle. And then follows a long period of poor decision making both on and off the ball.

Second half thought we came out and played some really good stuff for 15-20 minutes, with Leaburn leading the line well. But after our goal, the nervousness returned and Swansea stretched us. It looked like our bench were struggling to get to grips with how to nullify their threats out wide. I'm not sure we ever did.

All that, and we still got a draw! I'm happy overall. We are going to have games where we struggle but to our credit, we're still picking up points.

I had a perfect view from the West Stand, it was an excellent tackle. The ref was spot on, although a yellow for the dive could have been appropriate.

I don't understand why people think Gillesphey should have received a red card?

The same fella dived a couple of minutes later. Perhaps the ref had a quiet word because I don't recall any other obvious dives from him.

Fair point! Suppose we need to accept and get used to it? Still think this has been great for us so far - but won't take us any further than mid table. Still hopeful of improvements next season but for now it's done us and NJ proud!

A few questions arising from this thread for me:

    1. Wouldn’t Gillesphey at left back be the natural solution? If necessary switch to a flat back four, at least for home games.

    2. If we aren’t overperforming, or as ooh ooh puts it, ’punching above our weight’, then what is the definition of overperforming?

    3. Someone mentioned Charlton Live getting ahead of themselves.  I too listened to that on Saturday morning and it made me wince to hear them talking of missing the play off final due to a sister’s wedding that day. Talk about asking for trouble. Also, how can such a loyal fan prefer us to finish outside the play-offs just because he wouldn't be able to go? He normally comes across well but not this time.
Nevertheless I do kind of think that if we were to get to the insanely rich league at this stage of our early progression, it could well do us more harm than good. That is unless we took the ’get 10 points, grab the money and run’ approach with our promotion team.
The time for this discussion though is if we are in the top 10 in March, not the end of October.
  • Bit disappointed at half time, I thought we were lackluster for too much of the first half.
Noticed Burke feeling his hamstring several times before he tried to chase the pass and went down. Didn't even see Bell go down tbh but losing them both and not being able to cover properly for them gave the Swans the upper hand in the second half.
Haven't seen anything about Bell, but will be worried if he's out for too long with Josh on the sidelines too.
Lovely to see Charlie get his goal and even lovelier to see the other players all coming over to make a big fuss of him.
A decent draw given we weren't playing so well and that we lost Bell and Burke too.
Anyway, onwards to Tuesday where I still think we have a good chance of getting all the points!

Isn’t it odd to go to a match and miss a large chunk of it getting refreshments? At the Stevenage match in February some fans around me missed not one but both our goals (Godden 44'
Luke Berry 48') - and the two women next to me didn’t get back until about 60 mins and I heard them  laugh about how they missed goals again.
After the match I went to the fans bar with golfie and we were able get our drinks just an hour later and discuss the whole match. Does that make us odd or them?

Confusing Leaburn for Jones is quite unique even for you.

I get what you're saying, but at the same time, people can spend their time how they want. Some people enjoy the social side of football more, I guess. And some people like to sit there for 30 minutes before the game, watching the warm-up. It's not something I would ever do, but other people seem to enjoy it. Just live and let live.

You can see what's going to happen now our defender are getting injured can't you, our strikers are going to start banging them in, but we'll average conceding 2-3 every game

I reckon our let’s pretend our keeper is injured trick needs to be a bit more subtle than NJ gesticulating stay down!

Did anyone else see after Leaburn was angry after another foul on him or someone else and it getting a little bit heated and he just pulled the Swansea players top over his head whom was getting a bit aggy and mugged him right up .
I only just caught the end of it and the Swans player was fuming as he pulled it back off himself and Leaburn was pissing himself with laughter .
    Any footage ?

What the squad lacks is another quality engine room midfielder, another Coventry or Doc. Both of those players are having to do massive amounts of work every game.

Rankin-Costello was meant to be that player, but his lack of minutes suggests NJ isn't impressed. Anderson can't even make the bench.

Instead we have Knibbs coming on as the 10 and moving Carey into the deeper role, which nullifies his goal threat.

We were saying the same thing, all a bit flat. Where we were in the West Stand there seemed to be a hell of a lot of day trippers judging by their late arrivals and endless searching for their seats. Two games in three days may have had an impact too with people choosing one of the two

Leaburn certainly started the handbags off the ball. But as with his handling of the game in general, I thought the referee dealt with it sensibly. Another day, a different ref (as in that prat who did the Sheffield Wednesday game) and cards would have been thrown around

Just looked at it again and it confirms what I thought at the time ... he clipped the player ad missed the ball. I can but suspect that had this happened after 20-30 minutes it would have been a red
