I rate Hamer, i just think he needs to be a bit calmer. Whenever he does something good, he gets all excited and then does something shite.

Will come with experience i suppose.

he's alright not someone one i would mention in the same sentence as kiely and i trusted elliot more for some reason. like his attitude on the pitch seems to becoming more of a presence on the pitch and finding his feet with the club and fans. not going to over rate him because he plays for charlton though.happy with him so far.

No way is Elliott a better keeper than Hamer!I didnt see what the big fuss about Robbie was, yes he is Charlton through and through and he is top guy but Hamers kicking is far better, his shot stopping is better and most importantly he comes off his line!

I would much rather have a keeper who comes off his line and occassionally flaps than a keeper who just stays glued to his line at set pieces!

He is not as good as Deano but Hamer is young and I think everyone can see that in just one season he is coming on leaps and bounds!Good luck to the lad, he is ours now!

Kiely was 29 when he came to Charlton - and had several years more playing experience under his belt than Hamer has at present.

    So not a fair comparison.

Hamer is fine for us at the moment and has bags of potential to develop but I still expect another experienced goalie to come in during the summer if we get promoted. Who ends ups No1 I wouldn't want to say.

One thing very much in Ben's favour is his kicking. He still has the wayward one or two but modern keepers tend to be able to have an offensive element to their game too and be comfortable with the ball.

Deano was a great keeper for us, maybe one of the best BUT he hardly came off his line and his kicking was atrocious, it was only his shot stopping abilities and communication that made him a Premiership Goalkeeper.

you can't rate him over kicking as long as he gets it over the half way line is fine. we probably have scored from one of ben's kicks buts its not regular enough to say we won a game because hamer can kick. your keeper wins games by making goods saves, decision making, communication with the back four and commanding the area. "IF" hamer comes up short in any area i would want to be in his kicking.
  • hamer doesnt just kick, he passes the ball something that only a few keepers can do , so you can rate ben on his kicking as you put it , because we use his passing ability to our advantage

all the best keepers in the world of all time have never had been recognised due to there kicking. you dont hear "cassilas is a crap shot stopper but what a great kicker"or " schmeichel cant command his area but can pick out a flick on before anyone else sees it".

To be fair, Peter Schmeichel was often noted for his distribution. He was the first goalkeeper in premiership era English football who could consistently use the long throw as an offensive weapon.

Unless you meant Kasper Schmeichel ;-)

    Really warming to Hamer as the season's gone on. He's only 24 so plenty of time to get better; best keeper since Deano; has personality /keeper madness;
some great saves recently; and has added a new dimension with his occasionally brilliant passing/kicking. I also noticed how at the end of the Orient game went all round the ground applauding the crowd on his own. There's more to come.........
Robbie Elliot is a better goalie than Hamer
    Blimey
    Randolp > Elliot > Hamer
Nah, Elliot would never fit inside Randolph.

fair enough but the point i was trying to make is kicking seems to be the main compliment of hamer where that should be a bonus not a necessity.

i know schmeichel was good at distributing the ball with throwing and kicking but he was renound for what he done when he didn't have the ball.

A lot of people talk about Hamer being young and havng plenty of time to prove himself.

Never something that anybody seemed to say about Charlton youth products Radolph and Elliot.

when i asked bob bolder on saturday what he thought of hamer, he liked him a lot, reckoned he was the best keeper we'd had for a few years, that he was part of the reason why our defence has been so tight and that the back 4 are very confident with him behind them.

he's only a europeam cup winner, what the hell would he know anyway?
Pele isn't exactly renowned for his ability judging
But Bolder has been active in goalkeeper coaching since his retirement from the game

This whole kicking thing is a bit strange. I know their purpose is to stop balls flying in the net, but at the end of the day - they are footballers. Kicking should be the least of their problems. They are surrounded day in and day out by people who are professionals at kicking footballs accurately. Yes it is good that Hamer has it, but I do see it as a basic element to a goalkeeper's responsibility.

Quite a lot of people get annoyed when he shapes for the quick clearance and doesn't carry it out - they shouldn't the fact that he pulls out shows he is using his judgement - overall, he makes a lot more quick clearances than other keepers at this and higher levels despite the occaisonal mistake, and my guess he will get even better with experience.

  • Hamer doesnt just Kick his passing is extreemly good there is a diffence, Hamers distribution then shall we call it is proberly the best of any keeper we have had down here Ever,

of course it should be counted in how he is rated,

there was a pass against Orient which was sublime only the fact the out field player was unable to take advantage of it was it over looked
  • The basic requirement of a keeper is to shot stop and command the area with crosses, (hamer needs to improve on this point) his distribution is superb

IMO this is the best back we have had since we dropped out of the Premiership. They're all under 30 too!!

Randolph is a very talented keeper indeed but struck me as a bit lazy. Never really worked hard in the warm up and never really looked up for it.

Elliot is very average IMO. Good distribution but agility shocking and footwork awful hence often beaten at long range. Fitness will always be an issue for him I think.

Hamers distribution is sometimes world class but usually assured. Love the fact he comes for crosses. Vocal, wind up merchant and good shot stopper.

Hamer is the best of the lot - not a shadow of doubt in my mind. Could become very very good indeed in a couple of years. Hopefully with us

Hamer fast becoming a quality keeper. At 24 he is very young for a keeper and will improve. Someone said Elliot was better. So was Peter Shilton, meaningless. IMO Hsmer will be a great goalie.

I think that a lot of people massively overrated his midseason performances because we were getting shut outs despite some shakey showings. But, what I like about him is how he's improved in such a short time, his handling on high balls is getting better all the time. Hopefully the decision making will come with time.

Hamer over Elliott any day for me. Elliott won the lottery when he signed for Newcastle. How many games has he played? Wouldn't be surprised to she him move on in a year's time to a League 1 club (Millwall or Bristol City)

Made his debut for QPR today, and kept a clean sheet. Hadn't realised he had signed for them. Not sure if their other keeper is injured or dropped but good luck to him. Hope he does well. Always loved him
