Thought i'd take the opportunity to open up the thread with the International break about to happen…no idea myself, but assume there are a few well meant or informed ITK's out there, so over to you…anyone have some input to share…

Someone said Merry Christmas to me at work this week and I thought that was early, this is another level!15

Ronnie Moore mentioned James Ward-Prowse on loan from West Ham on the Post-Match thread
Should have replied: "Do you mean for 2025, or 2026?"fenaddick said:Someone said Merry Christmas to me at work this week and I thought that was early, this is another level!7 -
Something will happen because Bree’s loan is coming to an end, as is Hernandez’s contract.
I expect NJ will want to sign Bree permanently or at least extend his loan. No guarantee either will happen, Southampton may want him back.
Hernandez hasn’t helped his chances with the handball today, but there’s still time for him to win a longer deal.5 -
Feel like we still need another proper LWB to compete with Edwards regardless whether we keep Bree or not especially if Edwards is still out injured when the window opens up. Can Fukuda play there is he still a possible option to bring in this window?10
-
We desperately need a pacy LCB who can cover at LWB. Lack of goals from strikers is also a problem but we may have to look abroad. Romeo Vermant?1

Rumours that Fukuda has already agreed to sign for us on a pre-contractMartinCAFC said:Feel like we still need another proper LWB to compete with Edwards regardless whether we keep Bree or not especially if Edwards is still out injured when the window opens up. Striker.......striker.....oh, and a striker.2

If so, to play on the right as RB or RWB.Crispywood said:

Make of this what you will, but been told ex Palace defender Joel Ward has been training with us and will sign a short term deal to help deal with current injury crisis8

Probably a safer bet on the bench than Gough. No harm in a short dealCH4RLTON said:Make of this what you will, but been told ex Palace defender Joel Ward has been training with us and will sign a short term deal to help deal with current injury crisis3 -
Decent defender in his time, but hardly played last season and out of contract for 6 months, so I've no idea how fit he is now1
-
A Christian footballer who kneels to pray before each game, so should be a favourite with Nathan .3
-
Think Joel Ward is mates with Jason Pearce. Think that they played together at Portsmouth5
-
If this is the case and we’re looking at short term out of contract players why on earth are we going for right sided defenders with Apter, Bree, JRC who can play RWB, Ramsay and Bree who can Play RCB, when Lloyd Jones looks like he’s playing through injections and one fit LCB and currently have Hernandez at LWB. Surely Joe Bennett or even like a Kourtney Hause would be more appealing for the next monthCH4RLTON said:Make of this what you will, but been told ex Palace defender Joel Ward has been training with us and will sign a short term deal to help deal with current injury crisis2 -
A golden oldie, just turned 36, however a lot of players today who look after themselves are playing well into their 30s .. interesting wiki page .. Ward is a committed Christian, as is Nathan .. whenever I've seen Joel on TV, he's turned in decent performances .. as said, would be a more than decent stopgap .. so long as he is ready to go from day one of his signingCH4RLTON said:Make of this what you will, but been told ex Palace defender Joel Ward has been training with us and will sign a short term deal to help deal with current injury crisis0 -
Bennett seems to be at Walton and.HershamCrispywood said:

Could we still sign.him? I.agrree a left sided player would be a better cover.0 -
36 years old, lives in the area, right back or centre back, I'm not convinced that's an area we need strengthening but if that's what NJ feels we need then fair enough0

Don’t need a striker need decent service ..golfaddick said:Striker.......striker.....oh, and a striker.3 -
He can play in the middle of the back 3 as can Burke if he is fit. Not that that's the position we really need strengthening either.sam3110 said:36 years old, lives in the area, right back or centre back, I'm not convinced that's an area we need strengthening but if that's what NJ feels we need then fair enough0 -

We are finding out why 2 per position is so important. We had 2 for 2 positions in Edwards Bell and Gilly. As good as they are another body in there from the start of the season, drilled in our setup and fully fit would have helped with rotation and keeping Bell fit for longer. Instead we have had to sign Hernandez late and play him out of position and then play TC out of position! We have better depth than we have for a while but LWB was the one position we didn't have 2 per position and its cost us.0

Not that it needs strengthening but we do need more backup in that area, we’re light with all our injuries & assuming Nathan Jones doesn’t wanna bring back Alex Mitchell / Zach Mitchell / Nathan Asiimwecantersaddick said:

I had this opinion during deadline day in the summer but was shut down because "we had options" or somethingcantersaddick said:We are finding out why 2 per position is so important. Edwards, Bell
Gillesphey, Bell
Jones, Burke
Ramsay, Burke
Bree, Ramsay, Apter, Costello
The defence has always been lopsided to the right, because more players are right footed.
We're unlucky in the sense that 2 of our 3 defensive injuries are players that occupy the left side6 -
Exactly and it's hardly 'cost us'. We're 9th just outside the play offs.sam3110 said:Edwards, Bell

Presumably his “scoops” from Sheff Wed will be about how great the previous owner was.shirty5 said:Alan Nixon with one of his exclusives (Pinch of Salt) or news on the latest pies on sale at the Southampton home game
Either that or it’ll be something to do with pies…

I'm not sure it was unlucky. You make your own luck. Edwards injury was maybe unlucky but then when you have to do an intense run of games including saturday-tuesday fixtures multiple times with no options for rotation or rest you push players into "the red zone" too much and for too long. It's asking for another injury. These things always compound because you end up over using what you have leftsam3110 said:Edwards, Bell
