That said, if any of you have been around @WSS after a bottle of spiced rum you would consider going to games on your own!

I'm not sure the internet is as wholesome now to be doing things like what used to happen, its just too big and fast moving.
Says the guy serving up Tescos Brandy 😆

Yes you did and we did some down near Cannon Street i think?  They were quite regular in the end.
They were good fun.  Met a lot of addicks through those drink ups.  Wonder what happened to Stone and Steve Dowman :-)
What was the name of that pub?
was it the Cannick Taps? sure it was in a basement
Can’t say that rings a bell with me?
Just looked at some images…….it definitely wasn’t The Cannick Taps…..anyone else got the answer?
    Was it Deacons??

And what was the name of the pub we did the City Addicks in which me and Razil restarted? Upstairs?  City Tavern?  Cant remember.

We did do one in the London Stone opposite Cannon Street also which is downstairs but i do also remember another time with you @Greenithe and that was directly opposite Cannon St i'm sure but on ground level?  Or was that Deacons?
All I can remember is that David White and Martin Simons were the guests.
Incidentally……I haven’t see David around at The Valley for quite a while, does he still get to games I wonder?

It was called The Cannon. No longer there as building demolished and rebuilt, but roughly where The Candlemaker is now
    Ahh I remember going there

That was the upstairs in the City Tavern. I’m sure it was called that.  We did some in the Counting House later on.

Forgot about The Cannon Afka. Long time ago now.

Yes it was the City Tavern @Curb_It, in a road parallel to Cheapside. Had some great guests and good nights in there.

Lawrence Lane was the address/Trump Street.  Looks like it was demolished in 2012.  The city does like to knock them down and rebuild.

I have always generally gone to games alone... and hadnt really thought that much about it until this thread. I've also never lived within 70 miles of London. Am sure these facts are connected.

Back in '92, 15 year old me got the train up from the South Coast alone for the first match back at The Valley.

I've lived abroad for much of my adult life and generally ventured to matches alone. In recent seasons I've been in the UK and attended various away matches alone most of the time.

I have family at the Valley with season tickets... so home matches often involve a half time chat and maybe pre match hello/pint... I enjoy those

    But...

Pilgrimages to The Valley feel like a mostly solitary pursuit for me... and I like it :)

Edit. Im hopeful my now 4 year old will usher in an era of father son football at some point

  • Went with my dad for 20 years until 2015 when ill health and general disinterest curtailed him going. I thought I'd hate going on my own but genuinely love it. As someone said above it's my escape, my "thing" as the Valley really does feel like my spiritual home. I do sometimes invite a mate and my partner has come up on sunny days but those days i feel more like we're watching a show and I try to keep seeing if they're interested. Where for me could be drawing 0-0 and have Sodje and Church up front and it still felt special! No talking to any one is a f*cking joy after a week at work dealing with people.

Having lived in north wales for the last 20 odd years I’m very much on my own in terms of being a Charlton fan. For years I travelled on my own and as others have said totally enjoyed it in the last 3 years my misses has got the bug ( I still blame JJ lol ) and now comes to every game with me. As much as I enjoy our days out part of me longs for that solo experience lol
