RIP. One of the best

The Stone Roses bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield has died aged 63.

His brother Greg announced the news on Facebook, writing: “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother. Gary Mani Mounfield RIP.”

He later added in the comments: “Reunited with his beautiful wife Imelda.”

Mounfield is understood to have died at home after collapsing. Family sources say an ambulance was called but he could not be revived.

That’s dreadful news. Saw him many times with the Roses and Primal Scream. Absolutely loved the way he played and the attitude, love and joy that he did it with. Got to take my nephew to see them in Dublin when they reformed and he then took me to Wembley Stadium later. Still two of my favourite gigs for the chance to share that experience with a new generation and just living it all again. Gutted.  Rest in Peace Mani

Noooo! Gutted, was a massive fan of The Roses but for some reason, they're one of the only bands of that ilk/time I didn't get to see. Saw him with Primal Scream a couple of times.

The years are flying by. Hadn’t realised that Wembley gig was 2017. Had a brilliant pre & post gig party at Crystal Events space next to the stadium with this lot as well. Graeme Park (Hacienda), Phil Beckett (Stone Roses Tour DJ), Darren Partington (808 State), Bez & Paul Ryder (Happy Mondays), Dermo of Northside and Rosetta. We did the after gig party in Dublin too at The Workman’s Club. No wonder we enjoyed ourselves 😊

Northside were one of my favourite bands of that era. Had a (quick) beer with Dermo after a gig at the Town & Country club.

Absolutely gutted. Properly. Lovely fella and a fucking wind up the man was. I remember him coming on in a Brazil top playing for the Scream the night before England played them in Japan just for a laugh.

Seen him countless times over th years.

Also knew his brother quite well from the valleys that he never knew he had until about 20 years ago.

RIP Gary. Thanks for many basslines but Fools Gold.oh my god  What a legacy to leave

I remember watching this when it was first broadcast and the way the bass comes in stuck with me ever since. Often get it up and give it an airing when playing a bit music on YouTube -

The story about Mani as I remember it.

A mate I met who’s one of the old Soul Crew lot never knew his dad and in the early 2000s decided to use the new fangled internet to look for him.

He searched and went in chat rooms etc. after a while spoke to a fella who has the same surname as him and thinks they may be related. This bloke lived in Manchester. So he went from the valleys to Manchester to meet the guy.

It was Mani. Turns out they had the same dad. And they looked alike.

My mate went from being a Welsh crane driver to being backstage with Kate Moss in a few weeks.

I’ve lost his derails now so can’t send him a message.

    RIP Steve’s brother.

Even more sad to read that his final social media post was to reflect on the death of his wife, Imelda, exactly two years previous and that they leave behind 13 year-old twin boys. It must have been horrid for them to witness their Mum batting cancer for three years but then to lose her and then their Dad is absolutely heartbreaking.

    RIP

Without The Stone Roses its possible we wouldn't have had the likes of The Verve, Oasis etc.

That bass intro to 'I Wanna Be Adored' never gets old.

    RIP Mani.

So many great songs, for those who have only heard their main albums, worth pulling up on spotify all their other singles and B sides, some real tunes in there as well.

RIP Mani, that’s a real shame & leaves his twin sons without a parent.

The Wembley Stadium gig is my all time favourite out of many, many hundreds.

I love it. Cracking album. Ok it’s Led Zeppelin but it’s good.

The gig I went to at Brixton when they brought it out was right there even if. Ian’s singing was shite. The event was amazing
