Injuries

Seen a few things on various podcasts saying:

Edwards & Burke both need to see specialists.

Bell is very close to returning.

Kelman & Godden both training again.

Bell back would be massive. Kelman and Godden a huge help

Would hope that Edwards has already seen a specialist?

He's already been out for over a month (?)

I do think it's a bit odd Jones never gives us any indication of when these players are back. We know Edwards is going to be out for a while which is hardly inside knowledge to our opposition, surely the fans deserve to know?

From a young adult who was lurking outside the players entrance after Saturday’s game

  • When was the last time we had a left back/left wing back that has played a whole season?

    Chris Powell - 1998/1999

    Mark Reid - 1985/1986 and 1986/1987

    Kevin Dickenson - 1983/1984

Ben Purrington? Don’t recall him being out for any significant amount of time.

All three important for very different defensive reasons too. Bell solidifies the left hand side and nullifies some of the impact of Gillesphey’s lack of pace, Kelman presses like a madman which makes it hard for opposition to build from the back and Godden is able to make the ball stick more than the rest of our strikers, meaning the ball doesn’t come back quite so quick

Why should we ‘deserve’ to know?
Yes…….we would all ‘like’ to know but for some reason or another there is a current ethos at the club to keep detailed injury info under wraps.
Speaking for myself, I can live with it.🤷

Agree. I think we’ve missed Kelman in particular more than I would have thought.

Returned to training a couple of weeks ago but injury was still causing him problems.

Wiggins made 45 appearances for us in 11/12 and was only dropped for the Preston game after we'd won the title when Powell decided to give starts to some of the supporting cast. Interesting considering how bad his injury issues became after that

He doesn’t have to say exactly when they will be back but a clue ( eg: a couple of weeks or long term ) would be nice for the fans . Of only to give us some optimism or to stop speculation.

I suspect Edwards will be back sometime in the future... Is that better...? ;)

Edit: Suspect he's also closer a return compared to when I originally wrote this post

He has provided that information. He said none of the injuries are short-term or long-term, but more medium-term, and that some players are ahead of the others in returning. 🙃

I doubt that he was "on the grass" as they say. Saw him after the West Brom game 3 weeks ago and he was still on crutches and wearing a protective boot thingy.

    @richcawleySLP
Nathan Jones with some positive #cafc team news ahead of the Oxford United game.

“We are in a considerably better position than we were. How many are able to feature on Saturday is one thing, but they are filtering back now. Out of the six injuries we have got, we could get two back for the weekend and then a further two. We work on from there."

    @richcawleySLP
NJ: “Our training session today - when you look at who is fit and the competition we’ve got there- it starts to look a lot healthier. I’ve got to manage them right - you can’t just throw everyone straight back in." #cafc

Probably back as far as Chris Powell or even Mark Reid?

What does "...and then a further two" actually mean?

A further two what?, went onto Noah's Arc?

I assume it means there’s a further two to come back soon after these first two.

That leaves the last two that are more long term.

    Who’s the sixth player?

Bell, Burke, Kelman, Edwards, Godden and ?

    Hernandez?

It’s probably him and Bell on the brink of returning, with Kelman and Burke following soon after. If I had to guess.

    So, at a guess...

    Kelman / Bell.              This weekend
    Burke / Hernandez.     Early Jan
    Edwards / Godden.     Who knows!

Bell recently made a brief return .. for me, give any injury time to get properly healed

From reading what is posted above from NJ, my take is that 4 r back training - not Godden or Edward’s - I’d hunch that Burke and Hernandez r back on the bench this weekend with bell and kelman on bench the following weekend
