Yeah they’re all u18s, as are Washington-Amoah and Tagoe.

The u21 squad is stretched with their own injuries, the first team injuries and the many players out on loan.

Shame that the injuries for the first team have a knock on effect on the U21s but it is a development squad and some of the subs, presumably U18s, will be buzzing to have made the U21 team.
  • No Reid.  With the first team squad or injured?

Good spot, no one noticed an injury last time so hopefully with the first team. Wonder if they're staying in the Midlands with an extended group

Different Reid, AC is talking about Reuben not Tommy

I could see Reuben Reid being one of the next in line so hopefully he’s with the first team and not injured.

A bit worrying people trying to pluck players out of the U21’s to put into the 1st team.wasnt long ago we were discussing when all our signings would get a chance

Don’t think anyone is doing that (bar one poster suggesting Enslin might be worth a go), just pointing out when someone is missing that they might be with the first team

Our fans are always guilty of thinking our academy players are the next big thing. Wasn’t looking for argument, my point was more that we all thought our squad was pretty full not so long ago, with the exception of a couple of positions that are now biting us ironically. Although I don’t see any of our young ones being at the level required yet.

The first team usually has one or two players who don’t make the bench with them, hopefully it’s why R Reid didn’t play today, rather than an injury or another reason. Ideally we’ll have players back from injury and he won’t be on the bench or even with the first team.

Yes we need a chink of light on the injuries, by all means if the young’uns are good enough put them in,there’s nothing better to see, but I don’t think we are there yet.

No I agree, Fullah is the only one I’d have on the bench if everyone was fit. And even then, that would be debatable as it would mean leaving out a senior player.

Reid is one to look out for over the next few years though.

Generally at U21 age if they are good enough they get a chance and then become starters as the good ones can’t be held back, I know NJ suggested it with Fullah but he showed he wasn’t quite there as a starter against Wrexham, I know it was only one game, but he was chalk and cheese from the subs impact the game before.

One thing to consider about players that come through the academy is how they might compare to players already here, and crucially in my view, potential new signings.

That happens though, it doesn’t mean NJ is wrong about Fullah.

Solly, Aribo and Grant are three examples of players off the top of my head who took time to properly settle into the first team and become regulars.

Konsa didn’t fully convince our fans while in L1 but after 1 year in the Championship with Brentford he moved to the PL. Pope was another not rated that highly while he was here.

I think how well the 1st team are doing has a big bearing on how they look, it’s not so easy coming into a struggling/ injury hit team, rather than one riding high and confident. Basically timing is really important.

LCB and LWB lack of cover was highlighted by most fans and this was before we found Bell wasn't a donkey as Luton fans had told us. Only four left footers in the entire squad. Lack of minutes for Enslin is baffling.

Surely if he’s ready he’d be on the bench at least?

Sorry I don't agree having watched his recent under 21 games. Playing at wing back his attacking moves are totally predictable because he is so left footed. Very easy to defend. In the last game I think he passed with right foot twice.

He seems to have gone backwards in his development.

Here's how our U21s line-up for this evening's cup clash against Preston North End: Hardy; Brown, Elliott, Laqeretabua, Kuczynski, Roussillon; Amoah, Safa, Enslin; Lock, Casey Subs: Woodham, Reid, Tagoe, McMillan, Dawkins

WEll that was  a fascinating first half with some real talent on display by both  Charlton and Preston! Of course we all wanted to see if Rousillon is the answer to our left wing back position and is he fit. Well he has been 'bombing' up and down satisfactorily and getting in some challenges but looks to be in second or third gear probably as a caution. Casey Enslin and Josh are the standouts and washington is everywhere. Casey must be ready to move on if Jones is never going to include him in a first tem squad.Think we will nick in in the second half.

0-0 at half time against a very useful Preston side, Kuczynski looks good, as for Roussillon, physically way ahead of this level, some good awareness and touches, wonder how long he will be given this half and how much this game will do for his match sharpness, would be surprised if he's involved on Saturday.
