    RIP Billy, lots of people are not aware of his connection with us, Saw him once at the Valley on the East terrace in a midweek  match in the late 70;s My mate asked him for his autograph and said not today mate.

    Just after he was sold to West Ham, he was living in a semi detached house on the corner of Lavidge Road and Birbbets Road in Mottingham

    I was his paperboy. 
    But he was a tight bastard, because I never once got a Christmas tip from him!.

    I went to to the same junior school as Bonds, many years after him I might add, Middle Park Primary. Legend has it that they kept one of his school team shirts once he started playing for Charlton.

    Billy Bonds was the first player I could name in the early games I attended at the old style Valley. Standing with my feet between the railings shelling/eating roasted peanuts he would race down the touchline with impressive athleticism.He set the standard for me was a right back and I'm struggling to think of any other right backs that came close to his (very high) standard. RIP Billy

    I was shocked and saddened when I saw that Billy had died. A true South London boy who loved Charlton but found his fame at West Ham. He’s a real legend for them. They did a poignant memorial to him at their game last weekend. What a player and character he was. Used to go to Eltham Green. 
    RIP Billy.

    My mum was a dinner lady and subsequently school secretary there for many years.

    Period of applause

    The club were saddened to hear of the passing this week of former players Billy Bonds MBE and Marvin Hinton. A period of applause will take place ahead of Saturday’s game for the duo.

    Bonds, who came through Charlton’s youth team, went on to play 95 game for the Addicks between 1964 and 1967 before moving to West Ham United for whom he played more than 600 games.

    Hinton also began his career at Charlton, representing the Addicks 145 times between 1957 and 1963.
