Feels like this podcast has warrants it's own thread.
Many ex Addicks have been on it, so might as well talk about the podcast in general (and any eye catching interviews they do can be posted on here).

I listened to the Konchesky one yesterday.
Just had a look, the latest is Lyle Taylor…1 -
Andy Woodman is on there, he's a VERY funny geezer and well worth watching.0

The Lyle Taylor one is worth a listen for detail on Duchatelet and ESI. Presume there’s some self-serving revision of details - but key revelations which were new to me were that:
1. supposedly the club owe him £70k+ but he has chosen not to claim it in order to keep the peace (which would surely be defamation if untrue)
2. the players were ‘on to’ Southall at a staff meeting at the start given most knew him from organising club nights in Manchester, but it was interrupted by a support staff member fainting,
3. he supposedly offered the club the chance that he would extend contract for end of covid season if they bought an insurance policy for £10k premium which would have paid £1m if he was injured in the post Covid games, but the club refused to pay it (which sounds implausible to me)
4. The club (and in particular Gallen) screwed him out of a move to a Brentford at start of championship season by repeatedly raising the asking price once agreed, for £1m to £4m
5. Various contract offers made to him - from Roland refusing to match Brentford’s £14k a week at the start of the season, to then offering that to him later on but be rejected, to Southall then offering him £10k a week against Bowyer’s advice given he’d already
6/ His penalty style came from Andy Marshall
Konchesky one far more meh from our perspective - but he did play for other, arguably bigger clubs so they take a lot of the time. A bit about the breakdown of his relationship with Curbs was interesting but it’s not really a Charlton episode1 -
The Simon Ferry episode is very funny but Simon Ferry is a funny guy anyway
The Hal Robson-Kanu one was just an advert for his turmeric drink
The Carlton Palmer one is golden
Can't remember who the keeper was, maybe Luke Steele, thats a good one and has a good story about Michael Doyle getting a proper slap off Rob Page which was noce to hear
Other notable ones are..... Neil Shipperly, Paul McKenna, Charlie Austin, Nicky Weaver, Mark Crossley, Marc Bircham, Graham Westley, Nicky Forster, Ian Bishop, Phil Brown, David Bentley and Lee Howey
Anyone who played with Stephen Bywater has a good story about him
On yhe snakes one, I didn't go for his bullshit to be honest, we know the club was a basket case at the time and so did he when he signed. I enjoyed him recounting Akinfenwa beating him up and as footballers go, we always knew he was more articulate than the average and he has his share of using longer words than you would expect a footballer to use which just blows the minds of the hosts before they ignore him and ask a question from their script
I cant remember the West Ham, Walsall keepers name but that one was very funny.
What sticks with me on any of their pods is how thick Jon Parkin is and how little any of them know about clubs outside of Yorkshire or the wider game.3 -

I don't think any of us are so naive as to think players are in it for the fans, definitely not most of them anyway BUT the lack of empathy for fans and their emotional attachment often surprises me when listening to ex players. I do understand they are essentially contractors and have to look after themselves but I think Parkin is making a caricature of himself. He had so many clubs because he was a pain in the arse who didnt take the sport seriously or do anything he didn't want to do. Granted he scored a fair few bangers and falls into the cult hero bracket.Algarveaddick said:

That said, when they get a guest on who is fairly erudite, honest and willing to tell some good stories, Darren Ward recently for example. I think it blows the guys minds but I really like those ones. I remember Darren Ward telling someone or it might have been in a programme when he played for us about him advertising his and his wife's cattery as he knew the importance of life after playing, he is also pretty intelligent which I think stumps all 3 presenters as Brownie the journalist has acquiesced with the other two and regressed1 -
I think we as fans, often have this romantic notion of our boys "playing for the badge" etc. Sadly, football is now littered with players/managers/directors, who are ok as long as they are winning (both on the pitch and at the bank) but turn the moment things get a bit sticky. There are exceptions of course, but listening to these players, it's pretty clear that to most of them, it's a job, with perks.
