Absolutely gutted. Remember him as a fixture at aways from when I first started going all those years back. Stood next to him on the train after the WBA game.
    Shocked and upset.
    R.I.P. Norm you Charlton legend.

RIP, first saw him when is started going away in the early 80’s, always seemed to be there.

Awful for his friends and family but one crumb of comfort for them was that he died doing what he clearly loved to do, watching Charlton.

Awful, truly awful. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, met him briefly at a couple of away games, he was such a lovely guy to chat with and just seeing him always made me smile and feel good.
    May he Rest in Peace.

RIP - condolences to his family and friends.
  • The No1 Charlton fan - as others have mentioned doing, as soon as I saw him I'd point him out to my boy. I can only echo what others have said - a true gent, humble, ever-present.

Don’t know how I feel at the moment. He sat just behind us. Known of him since Selhurst days. An absolute legend of the terrace. It was horrible to see. Safe travels Norm. You’ll be missed fellow addick.

    RIP to a club legend.
I remember chatting to him in Leeds city centre one lunchtime before the game in December 2002.
I have seen him so many times since, home and away.
He was someone that made me feel like I was wrapped in a cosy Charlton blanket every time I saw him.
The Charlton side of my life won't be the same.
    Very sad day indeed.
Condolences to all his family and friends.

Pre premiership years when I was getting ready to go Grimsby or Preston North End away i often thought “there won’t be many Charlton fans but at least Seb and headphones Norm will be there”

    I am gutted RIP

    Bailey said:
Don't want to say anything until the name is released but the club did the right thing, maybe people from outside the club may not understand why. As for the first responders they  fought manfully to try to save him. RIP legend, you will be missed, but never forgotten.
That was heart-breaking today -  @Bailey I can remember him walking round with his sound system playing  around our estate long before he had headphones, always such a gentle, kind person.  And was thinking when my  Dad always gave me money to buy a Saturday night paper off him  for the footy results when he sold them on the corner of our Road. RIP a true Charlton legend.

Such awful news only saw him at Coventry last week and my 11 year old already knew about his legendary status

    RIP 😢
    Legend is the word.

I recall talking to my daughter about Norm in her breakthrough year aged 10 in 2011-12 season. As she got hooked, attending 13 away games winning 12 and drawing one, and at each game she noticed this quiet figure that stood out for his character and quirky individuality, that everyone connected with Charlton will have noticed and adored.

This one just cuts right through.

RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of being there the evening he got his Hall of Fame award as a fan - spoke to him after the award ceremony - he was blown away that he got recognised in that way - lovely, lovely man - a nailed on ‘face’ at all matches - I’m gutted and so sad

As for Portsmouth fans today - and their manager - appalling - it was so obvious that the situation was very bad indeed

So so gutted. Massive loss and he will be hugely missed by all those who knew him. RIP Norm.
  • So sad, so poignant that he passed away on return to the Valley anniversary. More than anyone connected with the club, he was the ultimate constant home and away. Often saw him on the trains in the area on non-matchdays too. Simply won't be the same without seeing him at games any more. This one hits hard. Top man who will be truly missed. Sure the club will make a fitting tribute.

    It’s terrible news. RIP

Hopefully the “supporter” who decided that he wanted to have a fight with my son because it would mean “he wasted £60” will actually take time to think about his actions this afternoon. Life is far more important that football
