Rest in peace, he seemed like a lovely man and I remember chatting to him in the toilets at Accrington. He was taking a poster off the wall as a souvenir. It was a fond memory from an otherwise bad day of football, losing 2:1 against a team of giants!! But he was always there!! He must have been to a tonne of grounds watching the team we all love ❤️0

Such devastating news. I’m still finding hard to take in. He was a lovely fella and a true Charlton legend. RIP old chap. 💔4

Absolutely desperate news, especially at this time of the year. RIP Norm.3

This has got me, big time, look after your mate, and yourselfAfternoon Delight said:My best mate cradled him in his arms before the emergency services got there, no words can describe my grief, still crying now.11 -
Reckon there are many men who shared a pee and chat in an away toilet with Norm, I did at Southend in the cup, it’s when I introduced Headphones Norm to my son.🤷🏻♂️mattwils said:Rest in peace, he seemed like a lovely man and I remember chatting to him in the toilets at Accrington. Shocking - a true club legend. We’ll miss you.0

Just read every comment on here and could have been tempted to put a like on every one of them,
I didn't know Norm...but I did know Norm, in the same way as just about every Addick who's been to an away game in the last 40 years.
Such devastating news.
RIP Headphones Norm20 -
Awful news, RIP Norm 🎧

I know the medics who attended him this afternoon, I would like to assure his family, friends and everyone that he was given the best chance possible. The medics are top rate, and I know that if I was ill, they are certainly some of the medics I would like to attend to me.The speed in which they responded was outstanding and they would have gone above and beyond to given him every hope of survival. Sadly when it’s out time, nothing else can be done.28

First met him in the 80's when we normally only took a couple of hundred fans to away games.

Terribly sad. All I can manage right now.1

This has come as a real shock. I remember sitting next to headphones Norm away at Blackburn when we had Operation Ewood.
RIP. A true legend and for sure 'one of our own' 😪2 -
100%. CatJnr was off duty but went to help when we realised the severity. I was shocked when he got back and told me (in confidence) who it was. Everyone there did the best they could in the circumstances but sometimes their best is not quite enough.cafckev said:I know the medics who attended him this afternoon, I would like to assure his family, friends and everyone that he was given the best chance possible. As my nickname might suggest, I'm very much a "Johnny Come Lately" with respect to committing to being an Addick, but I've lived in Woolwich for the best part of 30 years, having arrived not long after you all got the Valley back, and Steve Gritt and Alan Curbishley were in charge. I've always felt that this was a special club, and the responses in this thread really underline that. RIP Norman, you are obviously very well loved, and I suspect will not soon be forgotten.6

Appreciate that social media can generally be a bit of a cesspit when it comes to most things, but I’ve got to say, the respect shown from the “football family” across the UK - on all the usual fan pages on Facebook and Instagram under His photo - is very humbling and genuinely impressive. It’s restored a little faith in humanity this evening. Well, it has for me at least.12

Lovely tribute mate, got me welling up ❤️Braziliance said:I just went back through my old footage and found a couple of clips of Norm.
He spoke so elegantly, and you always got a certain warmness from him. A truly humble man.
"I've laughed with them, & I've cried with them"
"You're gonna have lots of laughs, and you'll probably shed the odd tear, but, such is life, it's good fun"
That second quote feeling rather fitting today.
Proud of how our fans handled this to get attention to the incident, and well done to all those that helped him.
I genuinely feel we lost a huge part of our club today.

Nothing sums up our club than the collective coming together today in the general shock of losing such a loved individual.A constant throughout the time I and so many others have supported the Addicks, he epitomised the very nature of what it is to be a true Charlton fan. Loyal through thick and thin. He was Proper Charlton, the absolute definition of it.
The world is a much worse place without Norm. RIP15 -
Not much I can add
He was always there
S true gent
I don’t much about his family/friends
I hope somebody can pass on the Love felt for him by his Charlton Family
RiP Norm and say hello to Seb.x

Back when I used to go to every match, home and away, he was always there. I don’t think I ever spoke to him but I feel like I know him. He used to make me chuckle with his iconic look.
He could be named as a ’cult fan’ or whatever you like but one thing’s for sure: He was a real dedicated Charlton fan. His attendance over the years is to be admired.

Not Norm, ffs. The kindest, most genial man you could meet. A perfect example of an Addick. We will all miss you.9

Norm is such a legend even I know exactly who he is as my mates always pointed him out when I was watching Charlton more regularly in the 90s/early 00s when not at Spurs.
We saw the game was suspended and wondered what had happened as we were in the concourse at WHL. Its only now I'm home after seeing a couple of FB posts I've seen who it is.
So sorry for your loss everybody. RIP Norm. Many miles have you travelled sir!10
