RIP an absolutely iconic character and a true gentleman. We’ll miss you and never forget you. Sleep well, Norm.1

Here's a thought. Could be done quickly, and hopefully not cost much...
There are still plenty of bricks of the Charlton station railway bridge...2 -
So sad. RIP.0

RIP headphones Norm. We didn't know each other but we did share a hi five after scoring at some random away day up North many many years ago. I've just spent the last 20 mins explaining to my wife why guys like Norm & Sebbo are the life and soul of our club. Both now gone, very sad day7

Awful he was sat next to me , but all paramedics and the fans did everything they could RIP Head phones Norm .4

Can definetly see a big banner of this being made similar to Sebbo's and passed round the stands. What a pair of legends we have to remember and celebrate.EugenesAxe said:
How about putting this in the site banner? he deserves itguinnessaddick said:

For Tuesday’s game, a minutes applause starting in the 12rh minute would be good, the club could put this on the led screens around the ground.

Sad to let such a legendary fan go
many games has he seen follow Charlton his favourite team1 -
Absolutely devastating news. It's been a long time since I followed Charlton away or at home for that matter. Hundreds of memories of course, and almost definately the Norms and Sebs of this world would of been there as well. Brother Addicks!

I’ve recognised Norm from the day I started going to Charlton as a 7 year old, I’m now 35. The bloke with the badges, hat and headphones, I’ve never spoken a word to him but always saw him and associated him with Charlton. I saw him last week at Coventry, like every game. It’s going to be strange not seeing him anymore. This is such sad sad news, RIP legend.6

So so sad
RIP to a proper Charlton legend
Perhaps there is some solace that he died at the place he loved
But for now, it’s just awfully sad.

We all go to CAFC matches and our families expect us to return home, for this not to happen is a tragedy.
Sincere condolences to his family.0 -
RIP Norm.Didn’t know him personally but whenever I saw him home or away over many years he always brought a smile to my face at being at a game with a true Charlton Legend.2

Damn...that's shocking.
My thoughts are with the fan's loved ones.

Very sad day, as many have said, just such a familiar site, the sort of thing that makes you feel a bit better knowing they are around.0

Dreadful, sad news.
RIP Norm and condolences to family and friends.
As so many have said I didn't know him yet felt I did as I generally saw him around at matches.0 -
I'm shell shocked by this loss. I can't pretend to say we knew one another unless you count nodding at one another 20 years ago at an away game and repeating that ritual if we ever caught each others eyeline. Like loads of us we felt like we knew him, same as Seb
Rest in peace

Went to bed at midnight here in Oz feeling horrible after watching the game, then hearing on here that it was Headphones Norm involved.
Have now woken up to this dreadful, but not unexpected news.
Used to see him, around the North Stand over the course of so many years. He was well and truly a part of the fabric of CAFC.
He will be sorely missed, but departed this life at the place he loved, watching the team he loved,
RIP Norm2 -
There was a close up of the crowd during the game and there was a chap who bore a passing resemblance to Norm. As I have not been to an away game for a few years, it got me thinking about him and all the times I had seen him at northern outposts and the chats we had on the two occasions I actually sat next to him on an away day. Then the game stopped. RIP Norm.0

A flawless level of loyalty and a recognizability among the fanbase that is unmatched. When I was a kid (25 odd years ago) my Dad would always make a point of just saying “ah, there’s old headphones!” whenever we would see him on a train or near an away ground.I even remember watching Match of the Day in 1998 the night we beat Aston Villa 4-3. A camera shot at the end of the game showed the away fans celebrating at the end, with him standing out in the middle. Straight away - “oooh, there he is!”He had a unique look to him that was different from anyone else in the stand, but was held in the absolute highest level of respect for his character and loyalty. Top tier.Reading comments from fans of other clubs under pictures circulating online - they can take a look at him and immediately ‘get it’ that he’s one of those sorts of characters that would be seen in such a charming way. He personified ‘superfan’ in every sense. To lose someone like that is a massive tragedy. For it to happen in the circumstances that it did means today will go down as one of the saddest days in our club’s history.I had the pleasure of chatting to him a number of times, often via my old man who would always say hello. He was kind, polite, softly spoken.
Charlton as a club, and we as a fanbase, can consider ourselves extremely blessed to have had someone with such loyalty and grace in our ranks.RIP Headphones Norm.8 -
First spoke to Norm during the dark Selhurst days. During the 90's, I worked as a steward in blocks E/F, so would regulary have a brief chat with him. Still used to see him in passing, outside the ground, saying a quick hello as we passed. To sum up how he was regarded amongst our fans, I now sit in the AC stand, yet within 5 minutes of the tradegy unfolding, we were told it was Norman. Everyone knows him and respected him. R.I.P, Norm. x0
