I think it was said Godden was out with a knee injury, but I've not seen any mention of what Berry's and Mannion's injuries were, anyone know?

Pleased for him, he had a great cameo and goal in the cup against Stevenage, then got injured and has been forgotten by many, but you can't deny his movement and finishing is top draw, the likes of Kelman can learn a lot from him about when to time runs etc.

Berry has been a good signing always popping in with a goal. The fact he's been forgotten about since that injury at Wycombe shows you how well we've done since

Told him on Wembley way after the play off he’s too clever for half our team and hopefully he’d have better players to play with in the Championship.
Hes a positive player , good lad

I didn't think he was that great last season. And I'm very frustrated that he's starting games for us in the Championship now. He's a luxury in midfield and surely one that we can't afford in this league.

The fact he's shooting from 30+ yards consistently is a tell that his legs aren't cut out for this level anymore. Extreme example but it was exactly what Aneke would do last season when he got the ball

I dont mind him as a sub option as he can get you a goal, but as a starter, nah

I just checked the stats and he attempted 3 passes. In 67 minutes of football, 3 passes

The whole of his early career, prior to joining Luton, was spent playing in the Conference, League 2 and League 1. He spent seven years at Luton from the age of 25 to just under 32 so he would have been in his prime then. He only started 96 games (with 62 sub appearances) of which 31 were in his first season in League 2 and 12 were in his second season in League 1. In his final two seasons he started just four games in the Championship and two in the Premier League.

So he's never been a starter at Championship or above even when younger and do agree I'm not sure why he should be now.

But one of those was an absolute cracker that may well have set up a goal for a better team.
Agree, he shouldn't be starting but he has a touch of class and is more likely than most of our forwards to nick a goal.

We are going to be on the back foot in a lot of games.

We need players who can come up with moments to win points, as Berry has already done once this season away at Hull.

I don’t know if it’s a decision (starting him) I would have made but I certainly understand the logic.

It’s not like what we were doing before tonight was working either.

Berry can produce a killer pass or a goal......but has anyone ever seen him fully involved in a game?

But as you said that isn't enough to start. Surely he'd be better off the bench when there are more gaps in the defence due to fatigue for him to exploit

How on earth did he get to stay on for the second half ahead of Coventry, Carey and Knibbs?!

The main aim was for Coventry not to get booked and Carey to have a rest I think, Knibbs looked like he was going to get himself sent off. All 4 could have come off though

Would have brought Tanto on for him at half-time and at least have some pace up top. Feel sorry for Leaburn running around aimlessly where pressing isn't his game and nobody with him to help

there's the problem....it's 'our game' though, we look 100x better with TC and Kelman pressing and not letting Championship back lines play out so easily

But he's less capable of producing those moments than Carey, so I don't get why we would push Carey back to CM to accommodate him. Luke only scored 8 goals in 46 League One games last season, and Carey already has 5 in 19 in the Championship.

And for all his inexperience, Fullah arguably offers more than Berry at this level.

I actually thought Berry did more last night than Carey did. One shot in anger from Carey while Berry had the same plus almost winning that penalty and a gorgeous take down from a ball over the top too.

I don’t think Berry was the problem last night. Arguably our weakest second half spell was between Berry going off and Apter coming on ten minutes later - the Anderson, Doc, Fullah, Berry box midfield worked really well up to 67 mins. It took us until the 80th to get going again after he came off.

Berry was played in his normal position. Carey was played out of position to accommodate Berry.

He was playing in Carey's position so it's not the strongest comparison, as well as being a data set of one. Berry proved in L1 that he isn't going to pull up any trees, particularly not at a level above with legs that are another year older.
