Never a Good Sign

Charlton to be relegated from the Championship is the most popular football bet placed through oddschecker today. ⬇️

With five losses on the spin, is the writing on the wall for Nathan Jones' side?

We're bottom of the form table (excluding SW), so the stattos are piling in. Keep the faith and watch for the magic effect of 3 points soon 😉.
  • Would happily be on the other side of that bet. Yes we’ve been poor but it’s quite clear we’ve got a few first teamers out injured. On our day we can compete with the like of middlesboro etc

Long old way to go yet. Still 81 points up for grabs. We were always likely to have sticky periods this season as a newly promoted team.

Just as quickly as the form turned bad, only takes one or two results to send us on another better run.
  • We were the wrong side of a lino penalty call for the Wrexham defeat. We’ve then had key injuries coinciding with games against Southampton, Stoke, Coventry and Middlesbrough. Shit happens. We just need to get back on track and pick up some points against some teams that are not currently flying and scoring for fun.

Still, a long way to go. The most worrying matter is that we have a run of easier games in December, when we are at our weakest. We are sorely missing Bell, Edwards and Kelman. Bell because he adds stability to our defence and moves things forward, Edwards because we have no replacement and Kelman because he takes the weight off the midfield and defence with his non-stop running. If we can get some points from the games against Pompey, Norwich and Oxford, I think we will be OK, but there's a long way to go - and, as someone reminded me, this time last year, things looked bleak.

If it was against the bottom 5 sides maybe. But we've had to play so many in the top 8 in a short space of time plus a few key injuries. The Portsmouth game would have been a better indicator where we stand

Was 25/1 for Relegation after the win v West Brom. When you don’t pick up a single point after that those odds will plummet

I think we will drop into the bottom 3 in the next month, but I still have faith that we will stay up. We are a good team when we have the players for our system, the first 30 at Coventry proved that is still the case. Once we have a proper team back we will be fine

A long way to go and we thankfully picked up some decent points ahead of a tough run of fixtures, which I don't think many of us expected to get much out of, even with a fully fit squad.

Brum on Saturday will be tough, but then the next stage of our season kicks off. Oxford is huge, not only for points but to get that winning feeling back which can lift us ahead of 3 more huge games over Xmas/New Year period.

In those minutes that were played, we looked scarily second best against Portsmouth.

Agreed. The only good thing is that the first goal was likely to be crucial and they'd already passed up 2-3 decent openings.

We have to remember that all teams are beatable. We nearly nicked a point last night if Tanto hits that shot on target. If we get a win things will change.

We are in free fall and confidence in pretty much everybody is looking low. We need a result badly. A point on Saturday could stop the rot, but a sixth straight defeat could see us continue the downward spiral.

No confidence and no strikers on form
doesn’t bode well .  I do think we will just about survive but it’s not going to be fun

    Phrased with bias though.

Another way of looking at it is that we were well beaten in all of those games, including Wrexham who battered us second half, and had arguably nicked several points in the series of games that preceded the poor run too

We need Bell and Burke back and some signings in the middle / attack; what worries me is that whilst the defence could clearly recover a bit with those 2 (but they’re big ifs), I don’t really think we have anything else to come in a midfield or attacking sense. Almost relying on Fullah emerging and being shit hot as he’s the only one at the moment who looks like he could offer an X factor /threat

definitely, but hardly indicative of a full match. We've been the better team in matches earlier this season where we haven't been in the first 13 minutes.

Southampton was a shock by 22 minutes looking at result so far, but look how they've done since

If us being relegated is the most popular bet then it means the odds on us staying up may start to get tempting. Don't see relegation for us this season.  Complete confidence.

    In a few respects, but:

We don’t have a star loan player (Gallagher) to lose in January.
We have much more serious and ambitious owners.
We aren’t reliant on a key goal scorer (admittedly because we don’t have one at all…) who is going to refuse to play the last nine games of the season.

And even then we were only one point short.

Not saying we’re safe, but a long way to go.
  • I don't know why we even bother
  • With some important players coming back from injury and hopefully some clever reinforcements in the January window, I'm feeling fairly confident of survival. We've been up against the strongest teams in the league, with a fatigued and injury-riddled squad. Still need to see some improvement, which is possible if Nathan Jones is brave enough to give Fullah, Anderson, Apter and Tanto a proper chance. The likes of Docherty, Carey and Coventry look absolutely knackered.

Think I saw we were 4 points off the side that came 9th in 2012/13. They had a poor December as well as a poor run in Feb and march, and still came 9th, there's a lot of football to be played yet.

8 to 1 best price for us to be relegated .

Unless we buy,  where are the goals coming from, maybe Godden , Kelman can run around a lot , who will create ? Fullah maybe
Only Pompey and Wednesday have scored less than us …
we’ll have to bore ourselves out of it defensively.
Running and pressing can only get you so far , we need some flair in the team , fuck knows where that’s going to come from .
