NJ needs to use the loan market. It sounds nice having a squad of owned players rather than loanees, so that when you improve them you get the benefit (and financial benefit) but that assumes they actually improve.

Looking at the players in the summer we paid fees for, the likes of Kelman, Knibbs, Tanto, Apter, RC, Kaminski and Burke, who out of them is likely to be worth more money than we paid? If anything, most will have gone down in value.
Too be honest the only one I’d want to get rid of out of that list is probably RC and we haven’t really seen enough of him to pass judgement. The rest, in my opinion, will come good. All bar the last two have made a significant step up in terms of the league we are now in and it may be next season before we see the best of them, all bar Kelman who to date I’ve been happy with and it was just our luck he got injured after he’d got off the mark.

Have to remember NJ wasn’t scared to dip into the loan market last January so wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen again

We were in the playoffs before Edwards, Bell, Burke, Kelman got injured. We get alternatives in January in those same positions that match their skill set and in theory we will have a good enough side again.

Because our system is set up specifically for certain style of players we need to focus on getting 2 players per position that are the exact same rather than a Kelman/Leaburn or Macca/Bell who are completely opposite players.

January is the not time for a complete overhaul and to panic we just need suitable players to plug gaps when certain players are injured so we can play our consistent style of play that got us out of L1 and top end of the championship start of the year.

Honestly, we’ve got no real idea yet how good Knibbs, Tanto, Apter or RC actually are. They haven’t had anything close to a proper run of games, so how can we make a fair judgement? Meanwhile Campbell has had 18 games to settle into the Championship and still hasn’t shown he can cut it at this level.

What’s frustrating is that Apter, Knibbs and Tanto all have better stats than Campbell, yet they haven’t been given the same opportunity. And for the love of God NJ, I don’t want to see Apter used as a wing-back again.

Jones needs to drop the stubbornness and stop acting like he’s always right. If he doesn’t, it’ll be his downfall — and quite possibly send us straight back to League One.

Just to add, any striker would struggle to score goals in this team because it’s completely devoid of creativity. So if there’s any money to spend, I’d much rather we brought in a creative midfielder. Kelman is a finisher — he just needs the ammo. Shame Galbraith ended up joining Swansea

    20 matches, 2 goals, 0 assists

    Sounds perfect for us!

LWB confirmed as the priority for January by NJ on Rich's substack, Hernandez out injured now too.

Let's take a breath here. Our last 3 games...

Stoke - 2nd when we played them
Coventry - 1st in the table.
Middlesbrough - 2nd in the table when we played them

Those 3 games won't define our seaon. Wait until we lose 3 in a row against those teams around us before pushing the panic button.
Hehe... Will only take one defeat against a team around us for the nuclear panic button to be pummelled

Might mean Roussillon joins the Florent Rouamba list of signed but never plays too.

Is Bree a Jan 1st loan expiry or the end of Jan? I can't seem to see anything about that one.

Golfie in we need a striker shocker!!!😂
Well, until we have one that can score more than 1 in 18 matches then I'll keep banging on about it. I mean we did have one 2 seasons ago but apparently he was wrong type as he didnt run about enough.

I also agree with the other posters about creativity as that was my main beef back in August. Although we do have TC & Apter who should be able to supply crosses from either wing, and Knibbs, Carey & Berry in midfield to supply through balls.

Saints have won 6 out of 7 games under Tonda Eckert.

Middlesbrough have won 3 out of 3 games under Kim Hellberg.

Cov are Cov this year - our game against them was their 11th win in 12.

The only one that lets us down is the Stoke result really - they’ve now lost 5 of their last 6. Guess who they beat in that run.

Joe Aribo anyone for 1.5 million? Could be a good option. Would love to see him return.
Certainly need someone who is technically good but the system we play atm doesn't suit a player like that.

People are forgetting we were poor against West Brom and Swansea where we somehow picked up 4 points.

I think that’s a positive and shows that we aren’t really that bad relative to other sides in the bottom half. They were our equals on both occasions, showing that there will still be plenty of opportunities to get points.

The step up in levels from those two to Cov, Boro and Southampton were noticeable.

He was also probably 30 minutes shy of getting Fofana in in the summer window so I do think the idea that he refuses to use loans is overblown, he just prefers to develop his own players where possible

But we should of beaten Leicester and millwall

…and deserved more v Leicester. Long way to go still. If injuries get worse, we are doomed but that would be tough most of the teams in this division.
  • A few months ago I feared one or two of our better players might be targets for bigger spending clubs. I no longer have that concern. Nonetheless it would be good to get Ramsay on a longer deal.

Glad Jones has stated the need for a LWB, although no points for stating the obvious.

I do think a more mobile #8 would go a long way in midfield. I know Jones says we're set in midfield, but Cov, Doc, and JRC are all very one-paced. Anderson does have a lot of mobility, but he still looks raw in possession. Playing Carey as an 8 doesn't seem to be the answer, he seems to struggle in possession there and he's better utilized closer to goal. And then Knibbs, who we were told can play as an 8 or a 10, hasn't been given a runout as an 8 at all. I wonder if his lack of preseason minutes contributed to that (at least at first, hopefully he's up to speed now), but either way, Jones doesn't seem to see him as the answer.

This might be one of those additions that needs to wait until the summer as a Championship quality box-to-box midfielder is not easy to come by and will almost certainly require a fee.

Not realistic but I'd like us to sign Tolaj from Plymouth. He's strong with his hold up play and will probably make the step up to this league

No, he'd be a car crash of a signing.

A winger who couldn't go past anyone and a full back who could never get back in time.
