Why does T.Campbell keep getting selected

Well we didn't try it - and yes we did get beat!Willo said:
Yes it a game of opinions, however I dont get how some people are 100% sure we wont be better.DOUCHER said:Its all a game of opinions but for however many weaknesses TC has (and admitted, he was quiet at Stoke and generally struggles with the simple stuff), most week's he impacts the game and teams double or triple up on him. We will not be stronger without him, that's for sure.
We have never had the chance to find out.
lets try it especilly against Coventry nothing to loose, only the 3 points and most think we will get beat anyway.0 -

We probably would but we’d also be a worse team overall, as a we’ve built a team built around playing a back 3 and being solid at the back. That front 3 is no where near good enough to compromise what has got us here in the first placeBraziliance said:He's being played out of position, he's a winger in a front 3.
He's never a wingback, never a striker, his strength lays out wide. He's being used incorrectly. Not a single goal to his name after 18 appearances and 1300+ minutes of football.
Fairly confident if we played a front 3 of TC, Tanto and Apter, we would see more positive attacking play than what we are currently seeing.
Is definitely the most frustrating player we have atm alongside Leaburn though. The system we’ve built works with a hybrid LW/ST role and TC is capable of doing the running required to make that work. When we have everyone fit the system works well and TC is a key cog in that machine. I really don’t get the position thing, when he gets the ball he’s mostly in wide areas so what’s the problem?5 -
We'd need to be more attacking, to make up for all the goals we would let in. With only two in midfield, and 3 with a back 4, every week would be like Southampton. We do not have the players to attack or defend like that. If we survive this season maybe, but this season is defend defend defend. And we have just seen what will happen if we don't or can't..Braziliance said:He's being played out of position, he's a winger in a front 3.

IT Andy, I can’t believe a charlton fan has uttered those words!!!😂, Johnny Robinson was great for us. I would have a team full of Johnny Robinson's, maybe not in goal though.blackpool72 said:

He is always attacking out wide and basically plays as a wing forward already.Braziliance said:He's being played out of position, he's a winger in a front 3.

I've been a big fan of TC since he first broke into the first team. He brings a sense of excitement and expectancy, that no other current player can deliver.Sword65pf said:
I said this during the thread yesterday and upset a few for it. Made a couple of comments in jest that were taken as insults, which although someone was being soft wasn’t my intention., but back to TC, his passing and end product are far from being close to good enough he’s made a lot of appearances at a young age so should have improved and he hasn’t in these aspects of his game.Covered End said:TC was awful yesterday, he barely found a Charlton player all game.
He either passed the ball to an open space that Coventry (team) collected or he passed to them.
He's clearly exhausted (not surprising since I think he's featured in most every game and started nearly all).
He needs to be rested, put him on the bench and bring him on in the second half for a game or two.
I'd give Apter a chance in his place, but whoever starts in his place, give TC a rest he deserves it.
I want to see him push on, not go backwards.
Unfortunately, I do wonder if Jones has inadvertently put too much pressure on him by firstly bigging him up, saying that he was potentially Premier League class, then trying to convert him into a striker.
We saw a brief flurry of goals, but he hasn't been the same since.
So just when everyone thought that he was about to kick on, and move up a level, he has instead gone backwards.
It seems to me that he has suffered from being overplayed, whilst at the same time having to deal with International call ups.
He appears to be a quiet, shy lad, who maybe finds it difficult to deal with too much pressure, and someone whose confidence can be badly affected by the kind of adverse criticism that he's currently receiving.
If he was at another club, with a deeper squad, he'd have probably been rested many weeks ago and would have benefited greatly from that.
In summary I'd like to see his game time better managed for his own good.1 -
Jones won’t give up for him because end product and decision making is the only thing TC is missing from his game. In terms of pace dribbling ball progressing workrate movement etc he’s right up there at this level. If Jones can figure out how to get Goals + Assists into him he automatically moves from a bottom championship winger to a top level winger because he has everything else.7

Lol thank you to @AFKABartram but this was the thread I couldn’t find https://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/94925/tyreece-campbell-june-2025-called-up-for-jamaica-again-p34#latest
It says permission problem you don’t have permission to do that. Thought it may have been shut down à la Lloyd Jones original thread…0 -
Anyway, Boro named their right back man of the match from Tuesday night.Perhaps relevant to TC who skinned him a couple of times but was otherwise handled well.1

Find it quite funny how people are now bigging Kelman up because we are missing his pressing from the front and runs creating space for others, despite his lack of output. But TC offers the team exactly the same and everyone hates him2

TC doesn't press from the front, he plays out wide left.
80% of the time on Tuesday night instead of running at his man and taking them on, he ran 10 yards, checked back and passed inside to a midfielder5 -

He agrees his attacking output can be better.3 -

All those things count for absolutely nothing at the end of the day, if there is no end product.
I'm not surprised by his good passing accuracy stats because he invariably plays a short easy pass, either back to a defender, or sideways to a midfielder. Rarely does he ever attempt a defense splitting through ball to a forward.1 -

It’s the rest of the teams job to get TC 1v1 against his man. That’s integral to our style of play this season and last season. The team moves the ball quick enough to get TC 1v1 so he can go at his mansam3110 said:TC doesn't press from the front, he plays out wide left.

not sure it's quite like that - I think so far this season they've complimented each other very well and we aren't the same side with one of them missingNabySarr said:Find it quite funny how people are now bigging Kelman up because we are missing his pressing from the front and runs creating space for others, despite his lack of output. Its alright standing around waiting for him to beat his man into the box, but often that ball cant come in
Because if the Defender he's up against looks like they're getting support, surely it means that TC needs an additional option as well - More often than not, that happens and he's forced to pass it backwards, or like we saw at one stage on Tuesday, he tried to take them on, and got bullied off it too easily.2 -
He's lacking in a lot of areas but he's certainly not lazy. And to be fair to him, he doesn't hide either.
He is responsible for his output, though, and going almost 3/4 of a season's worth of football without scoring is poor. We can't be blaming other players for that. His output needs to improve massively. And assist-wise, I can't recall the last time I saw him play a pass across the box like Bergzorg did for Boro's first, and Apter's delivery on Tuesday was better than anything I've seen from TC in a long time.

One of the reasons we create and score so little is because we are so slow and so predictable in our build up play.ForeverAddickted said:

We constantly allow the opposing defence time to organise and mark their man.
Our goal on Saturday came about because Apter didn't mess around looking for support behind him or aside him, he was purely focused on beating his man and putting a dangerous ball in, quickly and efficiently.
It created mayhem and lead to an own goal.
I'm not buying all this TC has two men on him. Within what a yard? 5 yards, 10 yards?
Wherever you are on the pitch, there's probably always going to be 2 opposing players in close proximity to you.
TC shouldn't be worrying about that, his aim should be to use his speed and trickery to beat whatever is in front of him, he could easily beat two men once he's on the run. His focus should be on attacking the box and either getting a shot away or picking out a forward, that's what he's there for, not just playing it safe.1 -
I don’t think anyone would disagree on his output being really poor, and that Apter’s is much better, and Tanto’s would probably be as well. But neither of them can play the role that TC plays at the moment, if either attempted to do the amount of running TC does then they’d barely last a half of football. For a Nathan Jones team that is worth more overall to the team than better outputChunes said:He's lacking in a lot of areas but he's certainly not lazy. And to be fair to him, he doesn't hide either.

His focus should be on attacking the box and either getting a shot away or picking out a forward, that's what he's there for, not just playing it safe. You are 100% right that our build up play is too slow, but that is how the opposition are nearly always able to get 2 players to TC, because by the time we’ve got the ball to him they’ve shuffled across to cover it off. Even if it’s a second player 5-10 yards away, to get past a man you are usually having to take a big touch to get away from them, so a player 5-10 yards away is in the right place to intercept.TC will be under instruction to not try and take 2 players on, unless there is really nothing else on. If he tried to take 2 players on he would nearly always lose the ball, and Jones would be fuming at him because it’s a stupid thing to attempt when if he’s attracted 2 players there will be another Charlton player in space elsewhere. Even the best dribblers only have a % success rate of 50-60%, so even trying to take 1 player on is a big risk of losing possession, let alone 2.TC will be told that whenever he gets the ball he has a decision to make, if he’s 1v1 and the space is there, go for it. If it’s not the right option, then keep the ball and play an easy pass. His decision making is definitely a weakness, sometimes he should go for it and doesn’t, other times he goes for it when he shouldn’t and loses the ball. But asking him to attempt to take 2 players on would just be a silly idea, he’d lose the ball pretty much every time5 -
A good player finds the space himself by timing runs away from his marker. TC rarely receives the ball on the run, he's either static or running backwards.fenaddick said:

He's too easy to mark and too easy to neutralise. Whether that's down to instructions or a lack of confidence who knows.
Apter seems to find himself in more space and creates more as a result.
Opposing teams, when assessing the stats, would conclude that Apter is the more likely to either create or score, yet Apter doesn't appear to get double marked, and finds space in which to operate.
Or is it perhaps that they can't double mark him because his movement is so much better than TC's.0 -
Apter the other day came on when there was more space as we had other threats on the pitch, it was the same early in the season. If they were both able to play together again they’d both look dangerousqueensland_addick said:
