Hi everyone, and Happy New Year…

Today, New Years Day, after two tricky and also pointless away days, we are back home and take on top of the table Coventry City in a game that has now taken on an important meaning, and we simply have to avoid yet another pointless afternoon if possible, Coventry come into todays game having suffered a 0-2 home defeat against Ipswich last Monday , and will be intent on trying to stop their minor slump, we will need to be organised and ready to keep them at bay, and try to pay them back for the 3-1 loss at their place just a month ago.

Josh Edwards , Onel Hernández and Matty Godden continue to make progress in their recoveries, while Nathan provided an update on Kayne Ramsay. He said: "Kayne picked up a hamstring issue and it looks like it will be a couple of weeks.”…not good news, Coventry will be without Oliver Dovin, Jay Dasilva, and Brandon Thomas-Asante.

We've met on 40 occasions, winning 11, the Sky Blues winning 16 and the remaining 13 encounters ending in draws, Coventry came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory in the reverse fixture in November 2025.

Team news…Nathan Jones has named an unchanged XI for the visit of Coventry City

Reece Burke, captain Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell make up a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.

James Bree and Tyreece Campbell are likely to operate as wing backs with Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello and Luke Berry making up a midfield three. Charlie Kelman and Miles Leaburn once again start up front.

Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Keenan Gough, Greg Docherty, Sonny Carey, Harvey Knibbs, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Fullah and Tanto Olaofe make up the substitutes bench.

Charlton: Kaminski; Burke, Jones (c), Bell; Bree, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Campbell; Leaburn, Kelman

Subs: Mannion, Gillesphey, Gough, Docherty, Carey, Knibbs, Apter, Fullah, Olaofe

Is Hernandez still with the club? His contract was described as “until January 2026” which I took to mean it ended at the start of Jan but I guess it could mean any time this month.

It would be nice to at least try to retain possession and attack with some tempo but I’m not hopeful.

Expectations are low. Who will step up? Would love a backs to the wall performance.

    Must win. Simple as that.

And is it nuts to say that against the league leaders? Maybe - but it’s our own fault for screwing up the last two games.

What bit? That we screwed up the last two games or we have to therefore win this one?

We don’t have to win. That’s hyperbolic and we need to have some perspective.

If we lose today there’s still a very good chance we’ll stay up

Unchanged... Which is a surprise as would have put Knibbs in for Berry... and worried about Burke / Bell recovery, as the rest of the season is more important than this one game - But they looked decent against Portsmouth bar the result, so fingers crossed.

*might* sneak the second half if I can leave the brother in laws early enough
  • Don't mind it at all. Decent mix of threat and solidity. Need JRC to bring a similar performance. Fullah back to the bench - hopefully we get some earlier subs today

Not sure if it’s New Year optimism but yesterday I didn’t think we had a chance but today I have a good feeling about this game.

    3-2 and 3 points

Not complaining to see Rudoni, Mason-Clark and Sakamoto on the bench, but those are some options if they're not winning

No need to worry about Simms. Our scouts weren't interested a couple of years ago so must be a dud.

They obviously think they can beat us without them. Sensible from Jones to name an unchanged team probably. Still odd that Anderson isn’t in the squad.
  • Still no Anderson!?

Yeah and they've "only" got Birmingham on Sunday, so its not like they're worried about a huge match coming up... Unless this is the fallout from the Ipswich defeat, and they're being rested after that which is most likely
    Agree with you RE: Anderson
