Any thoughts on how coffee is served at the Valley?Radostanradical said:Ah, that time of the year my fellow lifers message each other the likes of " Has the RadostanRadical shared any transfer news yet?", "I wont believe it until the RR has confirmed, he is always ITK" and "In a dark and bleak world polluted with fake news only RR can be seen as a shining beacon of truth".
Anyway the point is im in the know and you all think im a hero, ill accept that responsibility. Unlike others who speculate here and elsewhere about transfers liek a dodgy medium, I deal only in facts. Remember Knibbs? I broke it first that he was a reading player, the deal was on and off and then on again merely moments within the club announcing it. Anyway all my plaudits aside let me get in to some news -
We are currently in discussion(s) with a number of players, at least one but also possibly a few more than one. When I am in a position to name these players you will be shocked by the quality (good or bad) of these targets, others may be content as well football is all about opinions (right or wrong) after all. These player(s) could be in imminently at a minimum but will be signed by 1st Feb at a maximum. So you can all sleep easy now and no doubt my followers i will share more with my flock as and when I can. I accept your thanks for your devotion.4 -

Most clubs in this league have bigger squads than us. They will have at least two players in every position and a few like Bell who can cover a several. Bree was what, 3rd, 4th choice? There will be players out of contract in June who will only need a token fee to move. On Prem loans, a LWB will have months of guaranteed starts which is a draw.AberystwythAddick said:
Transfers don’t work like that. It’s not just a case of I want this player here is offer and then sign the contract. Most clubs will want to get replacements in before letting people out the door.Gisappointed said:I am annoyed that everyone knew we needed a LWB three months ago, or perhaps earlier when Edwards was injured. Is it too hard to put together a list and have someone on board at the beginning of January rather when the window slams shut.
That's potentially five league games and a prestigious cup match where we are likely to play an inverted winger at LWB who can't cross with his left foot towards our 6'6" centre forward.
Without seeing the list I'd rather our 3rd choice now, rather than our 1st choice on 31st.
Or FFS play 4-4-2 to suit the players we have in the building.1 -
EXCLUSIVE! Lyndon Dykes targeted by Charlton as striker eyes up move ahead of World Cup…. not sure Birmingham will want to help a team below them in the same league ..

Dykes rumour in here, has been mentioned a few times on this thread but first time an actual journalist (although no idea how reliable) has mentioned it

Fits the profile of striker we need. Proper Nathan Jones signing that. A bully towards defenders. Just what we need.fenaddick said:Dykes rumour in here, has been mentioned a few times on this thread but first time an actual journalist (although no idea how reliable) has mentioned it

And remember, we did see that very "friendly" embrace between NJ and Dykes a couple of weeks back at St Andrews.fenaddick said:Dykes rumour in here, has been mentioned a few times on this thread but first time an actual journalist (although no idea how reliable) has mentioned it

Yes, he may win a few more headers than ML, but his goal return over the last couple of seasons has been pretty poor in the Championship (46 games, 3 goals, 0 assists), I know probably most off the bench.
Maybe on loan and ML could learn a bit from him until the end of the season, but I'd probably prefer to go for a younger target man on loan from a PL club.6 -
This would be my hope with Dykes. If we're going to get a target man I want it to be someone Leaburn can learn off rather than the coaches having to teach two players how to do somethingdmccart32 said:

Apart from having a name like a 7th century fortification that can be found somewhere in Northumberland and is currently maintained by English Heritage or something, I do not really rate Lyndon Dykes, despite his aerial prowess and work rate. Thought he was quite ineffectual against us last season when he came on in the 1-0 at home7
-
Football league world now also saying we are plotting a move for Dykes. I know they aren’t reliable sometimes but there is no smoke without fire.0
-
I think this would be a very unsurprising transfer as the bloke is the stereotypical NJ striker. I dont think he will score loads but maybe it will offer more chances for Kelman1
-
The thing is that you know what you are going to get with Dykes, so it would be a safe option, but let's be real, we'll be lucky if he scores a goal!fenaddick said:

Getting a PL loan could also go either way, where we find a gem with no pressure or expectation or a Nile John!

I would have to be convinced this is a good signing were it to happen.6
-
Dykes would be incredibly meh as a signing. I get January is a difficult market to do business in but he's someone I've never really rated as a target man.4
-
Having said that we know based off last season that NJ likes to have a target man he can throw on for the last 15/20 minutes of games as he did last season with Chuks on numerous occasions.

Why would that be better than continuing with Miles? We need experience and grit in the lineup, not more kids that need developmentdmccart32 said:

100% agree...just not bloody Dykes...please just someone who has a bit more pace and can nick us a goal or two.sam3110 said:

FLW just regurgitate whatever else is out there - they don’t have their own sources. I would not yet consider this rumour to have multiple sources behind it, since FLW’s source will be the Daily Record.CB1 said:Football league world now also saying we are plotting a move for Dykes. cos Miles don't score any goals, or create many- so worth a try.sam3110 said:

Don’t mind Dykes but would hope it’s a loan. Think we can do better in the summer but in January it’s fine2
-
Can’t help but feel we would be doing Dykes more of a favour than he would do us to be honest, 1 goal in league 1 with the runaway leaders a season ago.5

Do decent young target men actually exist (leaving aside freaks like the young Haaland)? Like the main centre back, you need strength and nous, and few young players have that. Bullying experienced Championship centre backs with your strength, winning free kicks with your cuteness, bringing other players into the game, is a specialist skill.dmccart32 said:

The player I would have loved to sign in the summer, is our ex player Michael Smith, who instead signed for Preston. 34 now, and not a prolific scorer, but he's very good at his job.4 -
Dykes? Really? A one in six striker only once just in double figures. Kieron Bowie sounds a much better bet. And to get a decent LWB in early, how about Adam Reach? Not going to break the bank, can do a job until June or even 31st January for six matches. Also Jeri Dorsett as a punt on the left, if only to push Macca nearer the door.0
-
Surely there’s a Matt Svensson or a Pringle or a Hunt floating around somewhere, c’mon Phil c, get creative1
-
Dykes- Leaburn isn’t going to beat anyone with pace or trickery nor a goal scorer. What he needs to learn is the art of a target man. Dykes at least has this quality. Secondly, it’s more who we’re able to attract to the club. Our options are limited.0
-
Maybe we’ll sign Dykes and Dike (both mentioned in this thread) to confuse things.3
