We currently lack a “presence” up front. Dykes would offer that and I think could manufacture openings for Kelman and Knibbs. He won’t score loads of goals but could with a fair wind be the ingredient we’ve been missing. Would hope for much better in the summer if that’s the way Jones wants to play it. Someone with Dykes attributes who can score ten goals a season would be my hope.

I’d take dykes on a 6 month loan to be a bully and real vocal point. Think will see more from Kelman. Also he’s gonna play out of his skin with the World Cup this summer

Dykes would be the Chuks battering ram type replacement to cause some chaos and give Leaburn someone to learn from
Surely we shouldn’t be looking at gametime replacements, we need starters

I would prefer Dick Van with his Cockney accent.

If Dykes happens then NJ has his head above the parapet. Few strikers score goals because he plays 3-5-2 with no wing  backs who can cross, and he is potentially bringing in a non-goalscoring forward.

Why did he buy Apter, a winger if he wanted 3-5-2? And TC?  Bell is the only decent left footed defender so it should be four at the back. But we go with square pegs in round holes, and wonder why we lose.
Ridiculous post. Since Jones came in with his 3-5-2 we’ve gone from 19th in league 1 to 19th in the championship. Apter was clearly brought in to replace Small in the hybrid role he played last season, TC is a great fit for the hybrid LW/ST role we used last season and at the start of this season.

You talk about square pegs in round holes, all of our defenders have played the best football of their careers in a back 3 setup, which is why we recruited them, so why would you put them in a 4?

Personally got no issue with Lyndon Dykes potentially signing. He would take away so much that Tanto, Kelman and even Leaburn to a degree are doing now that isnt there profile and allow them to get into better goalscoring positions.

A striker of that mould, a LWB and a CB would be a good January.

Potentially move on Gillesphey and Berry aswell.

Can't see any world in which Berry will move on. NJs favourite and will probably move into coaching under him eventually. Has a club option at the end of this season anyway

Comparisons of Dykes and others to Chuks just makes me think why not do the obvious and make Chuks an offer to return? Instead of 20 minutes, give him 10 minutes plus injury time and a payment for goals and another rate for assists, shots on target, etc. It would make decent content for the podcast too.

Otherwise i'd like to see one of the two Rafaels from the J-league. Rafaeil Elias at Kyoto Sanga reminds of me of a slightly younger Chuks too. He's all about finishing and bringing others in to play.
  • Kanu is currently playing for Walsall in league 2 for a reason. There’s no comparison to playing in the championship! We need a striker who can do the basics with Kelman & the returning Godden to win us matches. Leaburn is struggling and could do with a loan but not sure league 1 teams would take him.

Jamie Donley signs for Oxford on loan with an option to buy for £4.5m.

Shocked there’s an option to buy in there. Excellent business by Oxford sadly.

Yeah I’ve seen enough. Charlie Kelman and Lyndon Dykes both follow each other on Instagram 😎
If Linda Dykes starts following then it's guaranteed

Leaburn has been one of our best players over the last 4 games, he’s improving not struggling. Nearly every team in league 1 would take him

We could do with someone like Dykes to take a bit of pressure off Leaburn, as otherwise we will break him again
  • If the Dykes rumour is true - it baffles me that the club can’t see that the major issue is the midfield and the lack of creativity. We don’t create enough for the forwards we have now.

I’ve heard it all now! Chuks is currently preparing to take on the mighty Salford fc.

Oh I agree haha just after watching him against Coventry, he just isnt up to the level needed now. Better impact sub in fairness.

Oh I completely agree! 20 mins off the bench if we need a late goal should be the most we see of him .

There’s no way they’re activating that option unless they stay up. And if they do stay up it’ll probably be at the expense of us/Portsmouth/Blackburn.

In which case we won’t have to worry about him beyond the six month loan period anyway.

Besides, it’s not like he had done much in this league already. There’s a reason Spurs recalled him from Stoke.

Because we are playing 3-5-2 with no wing-backs and an injured RB playing RWB. Apter hasn't played for ten games, never played RCB before us and also is left footed. The asymmetric 5-3-2 which NJ fell upon went out the window when Edwards got injured early doors.

With only one decent left  footed defender it is obvious to play four at the back.

Apter and Campbell are wingers, why not play them there? We have a 6'6" striker who barely receives a cross.

I dont agree all our defenders have excelled as a back three, Bell and Jones are 30ish, probably played mostly in a four and Ramsay was a full-back before us.

Feels like a bit of a weird signing given they spent big money for their standards on De Keersmaker in the summer. Would have thought they'd go after a striker with their lack of goals.

Well he gets into our team, and last time I checked we were in the championship. If he was available I’d imagine plenty of championship teams would want him, not necessarily to start but then we have one of the weaker squads in the league so he’s a starter for us

I think he’s got loads of strengths, if you compare him to other championship strikers this season he’s currently

Top for duels and aerial duels won per 90 minutes
In the top 4% for % aerial duels won
Top 25% for interceptions per 90
Top 4% for possession won in final third per 90

Those are very important stats for a Nathan Jones striker and he’s amongst the best strikers in the league at them statistically. It’s clear he’s improved a lot since the start of the season, he needs to do more in terms of chances and goals but hopefully he keeps improving and that starts to come to, it would probably help if we crossed the ball in his direction every now and then
