No matter how minted our owners are, we are subject and limited by S&P.
We have already lost four points in January almost entirely down to playing a RF winger at LWB and a donkey st LCB.
A pacy LWB is a priority and I don't see why a Prem loan wasn't in the building on NYD. A premium player is for the summer window.6 -
It may well be, that if NJ knows or suspects he's going to get phone calls from another club, or the player concerned it might be easier for him to do it in his office at the training ground rather than take a load of stuff home. He may want to get at something on the Charlton computer system that he cant access remotely. He may need to wade through paperwork and it'll save him taking everything home.
Besides if his family are in Poole all he's going to do otherwise is drive home, cook his own dinner, wash up, go to bed, get up in the morning, drive back through the traffic to New Eltham etc, etc.
If he stays at work he can get one of the cooks to prepare his dinner and all he's got to do is stick it in the microwave.5 -
Cheeky!!! But I like it😂😂 not a lot!!ForeverAddickted said:

Of course it might also be possible that he is one reason that other managers may not be overly keen on loaning players to Charlton because of his high intensity and playing style?CombeMartin said:My understanding of why Nathen Jones gets heavily involved with the actual transfer negotiations is because he likes to talk to the player and "sell" Charlton to them. Rather than just leave it to someone else, afterall Nathen Jones is the "face of Charlton" at the moment whether you like that or not.2 -

New CEO announced . Matt Northall. Not heard of him but he is said to be well connected with a Sheik, a quality baker and some bitches.CafcSteve said:Heard a few whispers that a CEO could be getting appointed this month.
Haven’t got any names at the moment though.
When he's finished with it, Charlie Mullins has asked if he can have it back.

Always hear fans saying other managers wouldn’t send players because of Nathan or players wouldn’t want to play for Nathan, but often when said manager or player answers a question about him the answer is often very complementary, I don’t think people take into account the Nathan jones behind the scenes, and I think he probably likes that.3

I was wondering if he was sleeping at the training ground because you might have moved in next door to his place in Greenwich.golfaddick said:

Don't get me wrong as I totally agree. I really dont give two shits what other clubs are doing and I have no clue how many players they might have injured or if they need to strengthen at all.thenewbie said:
Or maybe they have been playing a 17 year old striker at right back due to having literally no-one else. The problem is that we don't really know about other clubs relative to us, we could see someone sign a right back and wonder why we weren't in for them but their CL equivalent is begging for a striker (just as an example.)golfaddick said:
What is more pertinent to what other clubs may or may not be doing is that we know exactly where our issues lie (if you happened to be asleep for the past 2 months it's in defence, and more precisely at LWB, and up front). Other clubs may not be "in crisis" in certain areas and are happy just to pick up a player or 2 to compliment their squad.msomerton said:All the people who tell us how hard it is to get a transfer done, do not explain how are rivals do it so quickly, and how this seems to be the same every season. We then end up with the players who have not played in weeks or months and are not ready to start for weeks.
Yes that is not every signing, but we do seem to have a a very high proportion of these most seasons.
And we don't know how many of the signings made by other clubs really work our, outside of transformational successes or absolutely spectacular flops most of the time they go unnoticed.
"Comparison is the thief of joy" as the saying goes. I certainly feel like we need to strengthen the squad we have but I won't overly concern myself with what other clubs do unless we start selling to direct rivals.
I was just trying to point out that we know where we need players as its been obvious for months. So in that context you would have liked to think that something might have been done before now.
And I know transfers take time yadda yadda yadda, but like the captain of the Titanic a little more urgency would be appreciated.3 -
If we were a bit more confident of Josh Edwards' return, it may allay some fears.golfaddick said:

So far this is one of the worst transfer window threads in living memory - and that's saying something.

So which Prem pacy LWB are you suggesting thats available for a loan then ?Gisappointed said:No matter how minted our owners are, we are subject and limited by S&P.

I’ve seen Ramsay linked to Boro and Southampton, Were interested in a prem top 4 LWB on loan realistically Scanlon, and a ST realistically Lyndon Dykes. We’re looking at a LWB, RCB and ST Anderson on loan towards Wycombe and that’s about it Love Jones but at least give us something to talk about over a week in and only 4 related actual rumours1 -
Edwards is a LB, Bell is an LCB. Macca is useless at this level.
Regardless of current players fitness, we need a LCB and a LWB, the latter in this window.
If we are going for Prem loans, why are they not in the door from day one?2 -
When you’re quoting Appleton as a sensible voice of reason you have fully lost your mindgolfaddick said:

Rumour is there’s a new IPTV provider in town…0

It’s a little bit ironic that exactly the sort of player we could deal with now is one that we let go in the summer (Thierry Small).13

We didn't let him go, the guy just left for the money...CafcSteve said:It’s a little bit ironic that exactly the sort of player we could deal with now is one that we let go in the summer (Thierry Small).16 -

Donley off injured for Oxford after 17 Mins.
That’s our sort of luck that is!15 -
We did not let him go he refused a contract .. big difference ..CafcSteve said:It’s a little bit ironic that exactly the sort of player we could deal with now is one that we let go in the summer (Thierry Small).10 -
It's a real bitch when your team go and get promoted behind you back and then spend money that you weren't going to give them.RonnieMoore said:
As usual ridiculous panic and when we sign someone it will be why have we signed him !!!! January not the easiest time to buy a player .. the fee inflated and most are panic that don’t work out .. we don’t need much reckon two signings and a loan … the owners were caught out with promotion and had planned financially to go up this season .. they never planned to give NJ the 12 mill we got from TV and promotion … so very unlikely to spend big now.eastterrace6168 said:All this panic 'cos we ain't signed anybody yet, January sales don't end for another 3 weeks...😉
I'd withhold funds in January. Cnuts7 -
And a team much higher up the league. Who have largely played him in his natural LWB position.eastterrace6168 said:

I really wish we'd signed him as well. He would be great cover now and at RWB to start the season. But we didn't. We tried by all accounts but he chose someone else. It's a shame, but I think there's only so much the club can do to sign a player.7 -
This window is shaping up exactly like the summer one, nobody has a bloody clue ! Nathan obviously gets his way when it comes to information being leaked out, but if this window is as good as the summer one eventually turned out to be then we could be well satisfied.9
-
Probably because the premier league club and the player has to agree to sign for us, there are 3 parties at play here.Gisappointed said:Edwards is a LB, Bell is an LCB. Macca is useless at this level.

If we are going for Prem loans, why are they not in the door from day one?So many reasons why deals aren’t done early, even PL loans. Lots of PL clubs will be using their kids in rotated squads in the cup this week, clubs are still missing players at AFCON so won’t want to lose others yet, and players/clubs might want to see what else is out there rather than agreeing to sign for the first option on day 1 of the transfer window. We are one of the last in line so players are going to wait and see if better clubs are in for them
How many championship clubs have bought in a PL loan so far? Not many at all, and most of those are players that have been recalled and then moved on again (which is completely different as the PL clubs can’t play these players in the FA cup and then send them out to a 3rd club of the season)2 -
This one has gone under the radar... QPR have signed Edwards?4
